I am new to vaping, I use an unflavored juice and get a good hit, but I still feel the need for the occasional cigarette. Why? It's crazy, how have other people managed to stop smoking?

It's not crazy at all. I hardly know anybody who just picked up an e-cig and stopped smoking the same day.

Can it be done instantly? Yes, it can. Is it normal? Not i.m.o.

Hang in there. vape a bit, smoke a bit, be kind to yourself.... :)

I actually quit smoking twice, once for two years, once for eighteen months. Both times cold turkey and it was easy both times. The thing is, I like smoking but at fifty years old I have to start thinking about the future. I'm not really looking forward to having to use breathing meds, or oxygen. That's why I'm giving vaping a go. Hopefully it works better for me when I buy the setup I'm looking at, if not, I'll resign myself to quitting again. I blame that cable show Madmen, grrrrr.

Be grateful for what vaping has given you. Actually, cigs are...rather disgusting. They are viewed negatively in society, my boss approved of my switch, my wife kisses me more, etc. I can smell the world better, I can taste food much, much better and enjoyably. My doctor approves and says that my health has shown a change. My "windage" has increased. When I walk the dog, me move along. She is panting when we are done. I can do that. No hacking and coughing.

Life is so much better. I still get the nicotine. Why would I want to smoke a foul cigarette??

Quitting is a mental exercise. With a lot of people (myself included), vaping makes it easier to get off the paper cigarettes, but it still takes a degree of mental control to not reach for the paper cigarettes when the cravings hit. Keep a bottle or a tank of high nicotine juice around is a technique that works for me and many others.

Stay strong and vape on!

the hardest part I've noticed is breaking the habit and routine of smoking cigs...

I tried quitting before vaping, I noticed keeping routines in check is what did the best for me.

This cannot be overstated. Routines, habits and addictions go hand in hand. I found that avoiding those routines helped me a great deal. Example: I didn't smoke during the day at work. First thing I did when I got home was pull out the balishag and roll one up, leash the dog and go for a stroll. Changing the routine- taking the dog out for a walk first helped break that routine. I gradually extended the time between getting home and rolling up my first smoke. I tried to imagine a cig was a 'reward' for getting sh.. done. I eventually got it to after dinner, then after doing the dishes. That's when I got an EVOD and some juice and ditched the smokes. I can sit in the on the couch in the living room and have a vape with my after dinner whiskey? [Borat voice] VERY NICE!

The key is breaking routines. It works by distracting you from the habit.

Don't beat yourself up or think something is wrong with you because you either have cravings or are a dual user. Cravings are normal, after you have been vaping for a good long time, the cravings will lessen in intensity. And actually taking a puff or two of a real cigarette after not smoking for so long will most likely remind you why you don't smoke and will lessen the urge. Ecigs may be the solution for some smokers, but I would be a fool if I were to say EVERY smoker. Even if you continue to smoke and vape (dual use), you will realize cost and health benefits over smoking alone. Don't force it. Let it come naturally.

I still crave a cig now and then, especially if I am around someone smoking or I'm having a beer / Jack Daniels. Been vaping now for over a year, and still smoked analogs mpart of that time. It took me a long time to find the right gear / juices to give me the satisfaction that I used to get from cigs. It also took me really wanting to stop smoking for the health benefits. Now, without all the constant smoke breaks, I feel a lot better and more productive. Unfortunately, I've fallen way behind in my Ipad gaming :(

Search WTA on here. My wife had a rough time going from smoking to vaping. I read about WTA and ordered a small bottle to add to her juices. After a couple of weeks and slowly weening her off it she has transitioned wonderfully. I used a little just to see what it was like, I have to say it mimicked the effect of smoking almost too closely for me. Read about it and see if that may help you make the switch. DO NOT by any means, vape WTA by itself. It will knock you square on your .... in no time and it really doesn't taste all that good.

I just suffer through it. I think I get the urge mainly out of habit and even though I am getting the nicotine and the smoke, etc... the brain doesn't agree with me. Meanwhile, I know some just change flavor, some reach for higher nicotine and some go the route of NET and WTA.

We all have our own journey, but we don't have to be lonely :)

For me, I think of my health. I'm only 19 days into this, but I've not cheated with a single puff off of an analog. Not once. That's huge for me and it has been my downfall and sabotaged my quitting every.single.time.

This time I was prepared. I was a little ignorant and bought the vuse brand from the gas station and vaped on that until I found this site and started lurking.

I made the jump, an expensive jump, and bought a silver bullet mod from altsmoke so now my rationale is "I can't give in now, I have too much money invested."

The cravings are getting better, day by day. When a bad craving hits, I vape for about 10 minutes. I'm on a high strength, 24mg, and I choose tobacco flavors to vape. Some people are for it, some are against it. But it works for me.

Just take it day by day. You'll get there. Go get you some decent vaping equipment and come to ECF and chat away. ECF has been a life savor for me, having that social support really helps.

Best of luck and keep us updated on how you're doing.

One month and 3 days for me. Had to get a setup that hit like a bus. And I would recommend getting some flavors you like. I am not sure I would have made it this far on pg\vg and nic alone. Not sure if you are vaping that for personal reasons? I would not have been able to stick with it on no flavor. Once I started vaping some good flavors, cigarettes became bland, unappealing, and had terrible vapor production lol! :D

New gear might be in order. What do you use now?

For me I still craved cigs until I decided to invest into a decent setup that could deliver the kind of massive throat and nic hit I was use to from smoking unfiltered hand rolled cigarettes.

What I found was that the little cartomizers just didn't produce the kind of hit that would satiate my cravings, even at 12mg nic. But after to switching to something that could put out much more vapor I'm more than satisfied and have no cravings for an analog cig.

I've been vaping since June and honestly I still have an emergency pack of smokes around because well, i'm an addict lol. The first couple of weeks vaping it was maybe 50-50 vaping and smoking. But I got some tobacco flavours and those greatly reduced the number of cigarettes I'd want. The occasional need for a real smoke was still there and honestly as long as it was no more than 2 smokes a day I'd just have them. But over the last month especially the cigarettes always taste like garbage and I can only get about halfway through one before tossing it. All they do now is make me want my vaporizer lol. So it's really just time. Time lessens the urge for a real smoke as your body gets used to vaping being the delivery method for the nicotine.
Protip. Put a little of your favourite fruit flavor in a tank with tobacco juice. I like 3/4 tobacco and 1/4 green apple flavors.
