For me it was when I went round to my mums house, she had been down to the local market and picked up a kit. Now to me at the time an e-cigarette was one of those that looked like a cigarette so this was new to me. I only tried hers once as she had it filled with menthol (no thanks!) but I ended up buying one online from totally wicked and have been vaping since.

Oddly my mum has stopped vaping and is still using analogues although I still throw some e-liquids her way in case she wants to start up again and she has my carto and 2 mizers so if she ever wants to start she's well equipped =P

So what about you guys? How did you start vaping?

My mother also got me started. She went down to SC to stay with my grandmother who was dying of lung cancer. While there, the hospice nurse who came daily to assist my mother took her to a vape shop in the area. My mother bought a vape for every smoker in the immediate family, myself included. It was a 650 mAh, variable volt, passthrough, generic ego and a bottoms coil clearo that took Evod coils. They were only $14.95 each, which was amazing to me since a pack of cigarettes here in NYC are $14 each. I was skepitcal, because more them a couple of my friends tried and failed with Blu, but the ego was great and it did the job. My sister and brother also managed to quit, but took a bit longer.

My brother is the type who needs to make the decision for himself to get any sort of equipment, so he passed up the ego my mother bought, and a few months later wound up getting another ego for himself anyway. My sister lost hers at first, then broke another, then just stopped using them and went back to smoking. Then I got her some cute cigalikes which she actually started using regularly. We suspect she was embarrassed to use a larger device near her friends. She stilled used an ego though, for some extra oomph when needed. Of course, she lost it again so now I'm shipping her an MVP.

i smelled my shirt after a day of unusually heavy smoking for me (half a pack).
i had always thought e-cigs were silly and probably just some silly fad but i remembered something about them being odor-free so i picked up a starter pack and that was all i needed.
i wish i hadn't judged them before trying them, i would have been smoke free for years now.

Aint Moms great! My mom started me off to. She is a nonsmoker, but she kept sending me news articals about it. She had nurse friends that vape. At first I thought it was a dumb idea. Then one day I looked at ECF and It started making more sense. I thought, I am going to try this. 16 month cig free.

I just bought some disposables at gas stations/wawa's and tried, moved along to volt cigalikes, twists, mvp2's and other vv/vw devices...I just got tired of smoking; started feeling crappy in lungs/wheezing, hated smelling like it, hated the habit and having kids made it desirable to quit/embarrassing for me being one of the few smoking mom's, tired of hiding it from those who "didn't know I smoked", tired of smoking outside in rain and cold, tired of running out for packs, hated how bad I felt when I was sick, had people I know die of lung cancer and was tired of the bad choices I was making-patches and gum didn't cut it with past multiple quit attempts, even though quit cold turkey while pregnant-it was just a hard habit I'd return to sadly enough, just thought these were at least worth a try, and they worked, and wish I would have found sooner(the ones I saw at mall kiosks-thought were a silly fad thing too)

My moms got me one too, ALL of us kids actually and herself as well. She got the Metro kit, and I remember being AMAZED given what a heavy smoker she was, 2-3 PAD for at LEAST 30 years, that she was able to get down to just a few smokes a day! I REALLY liked the kit she gave me, I thought it was all very neat and an intriguing concept, however when I went to use it something in it was very irritating towards my lungs when I inhaled it. I know now it was the PG. I also had a hard time getting use to and accepting the concept of "puffing" on a "non burning" cigarette and therefore NOT knowing when to put it down! I guess it never really occurred to me then that I would put it down when I was "satisfied" but I guess that's just the thing, I didn't and couldn't get "satisfaction" out of it and as mentioned it was too irritating.

I kept going back to it, but no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't get with it but the idea of e-cigs must have made a big enough impression with me because it stayed in the back of my mind. Unfortunately my mother returned to smoking. Recently however, I started researching them again, which led me here and I decided to purchase a Halo G6 kit. I found some juices that didn't irritate me and actually tasted GREAT compared to Metro's cartridges and it opened up a WHOLE NEW WORLD of juice possibilities and the idea that smoking/vaping didn't have to taste GROSS, or even just so, so! From the G6 I progressed to an ego style battery, and from their a Innokin Cool Fire 2, my first of many APV's! After that there was NOOOOO turning back, LOL!

The great thing is, NOW, I'm paying it back forward! I've gotten together an "ultimate e-cig experience" box for my moms that I'm going to be shipping out anyday now for Mother's Day! It's the benefit of 2 months worth of firsthand experience and research, containing EVERYTHING she needs to be as successful as I have been, to quit smoking, as I have now been off smokes for 2 weeks, yay!
I've gotten her ALL quality products, ranging from cig-alikes to Evods, syringes for filling, excellent juices, Kangertech tanks such as Evods and Aerotanks, a dripping atty, and I could go on! There is MORE than enough stuff in there for both her AND my sister whom she lives with to have a decent set up and then some! They can start out on the cig a likes if they prefer, there's even a personal charging case in there for them. They can bypass those all together if they prefer and jump right in with the Evod sets and even have a stealth vape with the Cig Easy Zippo style mod! I also included a 1300 mah, VV/VW pass-thru, that can crank it out pretty good!

I just wanted to show her my appreciation for her previous gesture, and for planting the seed, which has now led to my success, as well as do everything I good to ensure her long-term success! If she did as well as she did on that little Metro Kit, this stuff it going to BLOW her away! I can't WAIT to see what she thinks or how she does! Mom's rule!

I stopped in a tobacco shop a few months ago to pick up some tobacco and filter tubes to hold me over until my RYO stuff came in the mail. When I got home and opened the tobacco, there was a cog-alike inside, so I tried it and liked it! I did some research online, and finally decided on an ego set up because I wasn't too thrilled about the idea of throwing out a bunch of cartridges. It seemed wasteful. Anyway, I ordered my ego and juice, and within a week of getting it, I was off the cigarettes.:D

I quit smoking by switching to dip first, Quit that cold turkey as I got a nasty red sore on my tongue that scared the daylights out of me. About 4 months later I started to pick up smoking again. A month into it I remembered an ad I seen for e cigs back in 2008/2009. So I researched and eventually got a Joye 510 from an online shop and never looked back. Best decision I ever made!!!

Saw a "proper" looking e-cig in the newsagent one day while i was hungover. Bought one and the thing never charged, took it back got another and it worked. I got fed up filling up the "...." end with liquid, so fiddly and messy and didn't last long enough so went back to the cigs. Move on 18 months and a guy i know in the pub had a "posh" e-cig, i now know it was a ego with a ce4 and went to get one straight away, never looked back, never had a proper cigarette again. 3 months ago i had a party at my house and someone left an itaste VV VW battery behind, i swiped it and found the joy of variable W/V vaping. Then spent all my spare cash on mods etc...

My friend gave up smoking about 2 months ago with an e-cig. It was the first time I'd seen one that didn't look like a cigarette. While we've been on Easter break I've got myself a similar one. Mainly I just wanted to cut down and save a bit of money. I had just bought a multipack of 200 cigarettes, but after 4 days of vaping they tasted foul and I still have 180 cigarettes in the drawer. One of my uni friends smokes the same brand and I will offer him them for a small amount of money, but they're still sitting there in the drawer and I feel absolutely no temptation to light one up.

It will be interesting to see my friends tomorrow after Easter break. I wasn't even planning to quit smoking really. I was quite a heavy smoker too. I think they will be surprised!

For me it was all about curiosity & a desire to save money.

I was picking up supplies from my tobacco shop for a road-trip out to New York City, and had a few extra minutes in my schedule. So I asked the guy to tell me more about these e-cig things they had displayed.

He asked me a few questions (what did I usually smoke, how much, etc), and offered me a tobacco flavor to use for my first e-cig hit.

"WOW!"

The thing had all of the feelings of hitting a real cigarette!

To shorten the story, I ended up with a $45 started kit that had 2 cheap clearo tanks, 2 650 ego batts & a charger. Bought a couple of tobacco flavor juices (don't most of us newbs start with those ;)), and off I went.

Probably due to the novelty of it all, I had just 6 tobacco-burners where I would normally have smoke 20+ on the drive out.

Over the course of the next 10 days or so, I found I was reaching for the vape more, and rarely turning to the t-burner.

Notice that I never said I was looking to quit. I had absolutely no intention of leaving my beloved cigarettes behind! Never.

That is until the day I had had only 1/2 a cigarette. I mentioned this to my fellow-smoker and Barbershop quartet buddy, and he simply asked "why bother?"

That was the moment I realized it was okay to become an ex-smoker!

That was the end of 43 years of 1+ PAD, sure-to-die-with-....-in-hand habit for me!

No withdrawal symptoms that I noticed, and still not a craving to this very day!

Funniest part of the whole story is that I didn't tell my family anything about this e-cig thing. And when I did tell my wife after I hadn't had a cigarette for about 3 weeks, her response was "oh, I hadn't noticed".

Oh boy... gotta spend less time in the woodshop & more time with the wife!

So now I blog, facebook, joined CASAA(!), read the Media & General News forum here, comment on news articles & reports where I can, email my local politicians & policy-makers, and spread the truth about vaping every where and every 'when' I possibly can!

Hi here is my vaping story. I smoked 2 packs a day for over 25 years and I was having trouble breathing. I wanted to quit so I started out by buying a gas station cigalike blu to be exact. Then I went a bought the blu starter pack. I was so frusterated at lack of vapor and taste . I felt like I was suckling a rock through a straw. Batteries kept dieing and I couldn't get a decent hit.I continued smoking but thought their HAS to be a better way!! I went to the smoke shop and explained I can't get a decent hit. Told him my throat is sore from trying. Is their something better? I bought my first vaporizer and I was in heaven! I got plenty of vapor and got that throat hit I was after! The day I got that vaporizer was the day I quit smoking! I ended up giving my vaporizer to my hubby and bought a better one.nothing fancy just a simple multi volt 1300mah battery. A kamry X6. I use the kamry atomizer which is glass and very much like the pro tank. In the future I want a better set up but for now this works wonderfully! That's how I started vaping and I Love it♡♡ it's far more satisfying than smoking ever was to me! So I guess I can thank that little cig-a-like for being so awful and helping me discover vaping! Thank you blu! If I wasn't so frusterated with the cig-a-like I wouldn't have found vaping. I'm greatful for that. I've been smoke free now for 18 days! I am so happy! For a heavy smoker like I was it is a miricle! Vaping has been a God send for me! I absolutely love to vape. It was exactly what I was looking for ! So that's my story. Wonder how many people start out with the cig-a-like like I did?? I can now breathe better than ever! I no longer need a inhaler to breathe and my wheeze is gone! Vaping has been a very positive thing in my life! I'm so glad I started!

I started vaping using cigalikes but they kept me smoking, I heard from my daughters counselor that they made these electronic cigarettes that you could buy all these yummy tasting flavors so I thought I would do some checking into it. At first I didn't want something that looked like the e cigs that I have today which is funny because now I have 3 600mAh batteries, 8 VV/VW, and 2 Mods, but I heard that the local tobacco shop was selling these devices I was clueless when I went into the store, but I bought a generic 600mAh starter kit for $15.00 and it's still going strong lol, I bought three juices to get me started. I still smoked for a little bit until I really enjoyed the benefits of the ecig. A month later I found out that there was a B&M in a town 21 miles away I went there and bought an eGo starter kit which came with a free juice, I bought two additional juices, and 2 more tanks. Now I am an avid hobbyist e cig collector I like to buy pink shiny e cigs! LOL I just bought my second Vamo but its the Vamo V2 in Fuchsia at fasttech.com it was cheaper than I could have bought it on eBay, and I have enough 18350 batteries to use both devices at the same time! But that is pretty much how I got started vaping..or is it collecting? :vapor:

My 30-something step-son visited and had a cigalike in his pocket. He let me try it and I coughed until I shed tears. That was definitely the TH I thought could only come from the real deal. The following day I hopped on the net watching youtubes, found a net vendor and bought my first kit and, when I heard GrimmGreen mention ECF, came here to learn all I could.... don't think I've read so much since college days.

I had to have some major surgery and was going to be in the hospital for a few days and knew I would have some nicotine fits. . Bought and Ego type with tank and took to the hospital. I was vaping away along with some good drugs and the nurse came in. She smiled and said that there was no probem at all with me using in the room. Last year I had another surgery in different hospital and city. Again got caught and same reaction from the nurse - and my doctor!
