I hear ya Bert. My mom did, for the longest time, give me looks and still occasionally tells me how I've been sucking on my ecig way too much but I just repeat a phrase she can't seem to grasp, "vaping works a little differently".

Honestly though, she's been very supportive on the whole. She's been spreading the word around her offices (she's a nursing supervisor for a cancer and blood treatment private practice, with offices in a few different states) and has been guiding me to people I can show off the device to. I think overall mom is on the bandwagon.

As for my dad, apparently he actually used an ecig like 5 years go....figure that one eh? Didn't work that well for him, based on his description I'm guessing it was one of the earliest model penstyles. Gonna show him some of my mods when I see him next, but who knows how many months it'll be until I get that chance.

Its awesome that she had the will power to do it completely unaided but some people just dont have that kind of will power over cigarettes.
It's not just a question of willpower. During the 40 years I smoked I quit twice -- cold turkey. The last time was over 20 years ago. Since then I have tried acupuncture, hypnosis, Nicorette, Smoke Enders, will power and Wellbutrin. And I couldn't do it because I am addicted to putting that thing in my mouth and sucking on it, having it in my hand to play with, etc. There are no other alternatives to cigarettes that address that side of a smoking addiction. They all assume that they'll get you past the need for nicotine and that will be that.

It ain't that simple. I had reached the point where I had finally quit trying to quit... until I learned about e-cigarettes.

I live alone, other than two birds who are delighted I don't smoke, so it doesn't really matter what anyone else says. But my father is delighted even if he doesn't really understand them (he asked me if the flame is inside the PV), my sister, my friends and the people I worked with have all been very supportive. My doctor thinks it's wonderful and, when I recently got sent for pulmonary testing the doctor there said it was amazing.

I have had 1 person say "but you are still smoking" and two say "Congratulations, when are you going to stop using that?" Literally in one breath. My answer has 7 letters and ends with "you" because everyone else seems to get what a huge step this has been and are just happy for me.

One family member asked me when I was going to quit vaping. I asked her, "How long did you use the gum"? I already knew the answer: 6 years. She gets it now. :)

People ask me that all the time. My answer? Never. I am addicted to nicotine, And I have no desire to give it up. Smoking on the other hand, I wanted to give up.

I agree. Some of the same points you made were echoed in the following thread in the News subforum regarding a recent study.

You: yes I do, I've researched the ingredients, most of them are food products (especially the flavorings, they're candy flavors) the PG is harmless and is pumped into hospitals in the air system because it kills bacteria and viruses, the nicotine itself is about as dangerous as coffee is.

:) try that out if you need it. :)

Thanks for summing that up! I also had no idea about that hospital fact.

I'm lucky. My husband has never smoked, he bought my first PV as a gift because he knows how hard I've tried to quit before. He bought a mall kiosk one and paid way too much for it, but he didn't care if it was expensive if it helped me quit. He never says a work about my little packages that come in the mail, other than to ask what I got. My parents and siblings have been very supportive. My mom did ask me why I need so many different juices and why I couldn't just settle on one. I asked her if she only ever wants to eat one kind of food and she hasn't asked again.

I have a huge circle of friends in an antique motorcycle group and just got home from a meet. They were all excited for me. About 20 of us were all sitting around my room drinking beer one night and the subject came up. I was surprised by how many knew about them and wanted to know if they work. None of them are smokers, but all knew someone they wanted to tell about my success. Most of them are former smokers and none voiced any issues with quitting this way vs however they had done it.

Like I said, I'm lucky.

My two older sons are very supportive, my 14 yr old...not so much. He's glad I don't smoke analogs, but I'm still smoking to him because I'm still addicted to the nicotine - *sigh*. My mom is thrilled though...she wants my sisters to quit smoking now too. My smoking friends are happy for me and I've been able to convince one to order an e cig kit.

I'm thrilled with myself for quitting the analogs...don't miss them at all! That alone speaks wonders and even though everyone may not agree with my quitting technique...it worked!

Everyone I associate myself with has been very supportive. If anyone gives me any crap about it, I use the analogy of safe sex vs unprotected sex. I'm still having sex (nicotine) but I'm much more protected from STDs (thousands of chemicals in cigarette smoke that aren't in vapor). That normally quiets them down.

Ya know...my friends are that way too. My best friend's GF is always losing her lighters and used to always have me light her cigs. Started carrying around a torch in my big portfolio bag of awesome just for that reason. (high powered lighter, not british torch...although I have one of those in there too)

My family is very supportive. My husband is in Florida right now managing beach workers from the oil spill, but when I told him that I wanted to try e-cigs, he sent me the money to buy the kit and all the necessary "goodies" :) He quite smoking about 6 months ago and replaced it with chewing tobacco. I'm hoping he'll stop that soon.

My kids are very happy for me. They can't believe some of the flavors that are available. We're having a family BBQ this coming weekend. I'll let ya'll know how the rest of my family reacts to it! Everyone that I've told on the phone so far are pretty happy for me. 24 years of smoking, they all wanted to see me quit!

It really makes me happy that it seems like a good portion of us have support. It doesn't help the sadness that comes from knowing that there are some of us that have none though. :( But... Fu*k the non supporters! Either they will come around, or they wont. Vape on! We're healthier and happier this way, and thats all that matters!
