When I got my very first e-cigarette back in 2008, I smoked it on A PLANE without getting asked to stop or escorted off. That same year, the only pizza joint in Coopersville, Michigan informed me that smoking was disallowed indoors (the manager didn't buy that I wasn't smoking). I accidentally vaped in the doctor's office the other day, and quickly apologized, but the doc said she didn't have a problem with it. What are the rules now??

I'm sitting in IAH Houston Intercontinental Airport camping right now at my gate with gate agents asking me questions about vaping and when I informed hem its just water vapor nobody has any issues. I think as long as we conduct ourselves appropriately, we stand a better chance convincing non smokers that we aren't smokers either.

I'm in a pretty large metropolis here as well. I would say within the last 18 months I have noticed more and more vapers in the wild, and drop in analog users in the wild, at least in my area, kind of higher income area. As far as vaping indoors, I am generally courteous, say at a restaurant, being I work in the industry, if I need a vape I take it outside or into the restroom. Other places, say WallyWorld, I'll vape up to the door, then put it away and go about my business. Those that do see me, I've got a couple odd jaunticed eyes here and there, yep, same area, the "Higher Middle to Lower Upper Class" crowds, 10% still have a holier than though issue, but all in all, due to how many people I see vape in the wild, its a pretty common site, though that is just from my perspective. When I do get asked, its generally as a concerned 3rd party with a family member they want to quit questions or co-workers that analog asking how vaping is in comparison.

Answer what questions I can, after that, pass out a business card for a local B&M shop with the ECF address to try pointing them in the right direction.

I do think if we are consistently respectful we may change some folks' attitudes. When I would smoke outside and an obvious non-smoker would walk by (you know the ones I mean--their noses in a twist as they barrel down on you?), I would put my cig behind my back as they approached, wave away the smoke and say "excuse me!" with just the nicest little Southern smile on my face. Invariably, those folks responded with eyebrows up, and a crooked, uncertain smile back. As my Texan mama always said, you can change the world with a smile, one jerk at a time. :nun:

Where I live it's against the law to vape in any public building.
Utah HB 245 - Prohibiting the Use of E-Cigarettes and Hookah Pipes in Public Places - Key Vote - Project Vote Smart

This law came about thanks to those that think it is OK to vape anywhere they want!

Precisely. Have some common courtesy towards others, even if faced with the uneducated or, hate to be disrespectful, the just plain stupid or do not care holier than thoughs. Your rights only go so far until you impeed upon another's. Don't abuse or flaunt your rights.

I live in Pekin IL and vaping is not really popular here. I mean people have look alike ecigs but it seems I'm the only person around here that's ever seen a vamo. I don't really ever get any grief about vaping. I do try and keep it kind of mellow inside but most people don't a clue what's going on they just see "smoke" but smell fruit so it keeps them calm. I have pulled off the ol this is for asthma trip at hobby lobby though. It worked and I went on vaping with no trouble.

My town is mostly great but smoking is still allowed in Bars. If it is mostly restaurant they don't allow smoking but most are okay with the ecigs. There are a few places that frown about in other metro places. I ask in some places and in some I just do it discreetly and apologize if asked to stop. That doesnt happen very often. One place said I couldnt because they didn't want smokers to think I was smoking and it was okay but my ecig doesnt look like an ecig....Blue Springs , MO

I pretty much keep the indoors use to my house and my friend's houses. I have used it a few times on campus (not in the library, but the on campus pubs and common areas such as the pool halls) and have gotten a few interested people in it, haven't had anyone tell me to put it away (but I do keep the vaping to a minimum there as a courtesy to the people around me). As for restaurants and grocery stores, I wait until my friends go outside to smoke before I pull my vape gear out. Oh, I haven't had any problems in bars either. Just a lot of people looking at me and asking on where to go get theirs. :p

My town has no problems with smoking or vaping. Gotta love Vegas.

From the Seattle area, and according to our (King County) laws, smoking/vaping indoors is prohibited. Although that may be the law, i found that it really depends on the establishment to choose whether or not they want to observe and enforce it. Only places I vape indoors other than my house are at friend's places, or local bars/casinos that I frequent and they turn a blind eye cause Im a regular. For the most part, I only vape where smoking is allowed.

I work in WI and vape at work in the lunchroom only. I live in IL, and asked once at a casino if egis were allowed. They were not.

As for anywhere else, I have never asked. I still follow the smoking rules because there is less hassle that way. I live in a small town. I have seen other person vaping besides at work, vapemeet, or a B&M. It is just not worth pissing people off who don't understand the activity.

Back home I always vaped in most places and many were used to it. It was popular but restaurants, grocery stores, and Walmart I never even tried. Fast trips in and out I never had the need to vape. I always vaped at the salon but cleared it first with the owners. Severals of the hair dressers vaped also. I've since moved and it's weird going from a place that doesn't care to hostels. I don't vape but in the parking lots to and from the car. Outside sidewalk affairs ect....Some of the people are down right Nazi about it. I miss being around non judgmental people. I'm back to feeling like a smoker again.

I have noticed people vaping on the local mall where there is a kiosk selling ecigs. It always draws attention, but no one seems to have a problem with it. We have taken the ecigars into local restaurants and puffed them in the bar area. Every single wait staff member has asked about them and been intrigues, but no one has had any problem with it once they are explained.
