You're absolutely correct. Buzzlove, Flamingo Tutu, I'll happily relate the way it was explained to me via PM if you want to continue. If not, have a great vaping day!

That is okay, I think I know where they are coming from. For some departments, most probably, there are an insane amount of false alarms. There was one elderly gentleman here that used to call in an imaginary emergency when he got lonely. People can't tell the difference between smoke coming from a chimney and a window. I do get what they are upset about and sympathize with them to a degree. However, if they put photoelectric detectors up, guess who approves those, they're going to have a lot of calls.

As far as the "never incriminate yourself", I am an honest guy (probably too honest sometimes). If someone asks me a direct question, regardless of what the outcome of my answer will be, I will be straight with them. There's nothing I hate more than people beating around the bush with me and trying to guile their way out of a mistake when really all it takes is an "I'm sorry, I didn't know". So maybe it will cost me a couple hundred bucks, maybe it won't. I am not willing to compromise my morals on a stupid fine for an honest mistake.

Perhaps (usually) they are compromising your rights. Never incriminate yourself, ever!

Hello Everyone :)

Yea I travel a lot and I never had any problems with vaping in hotels.
But I have heard stories of hotels using them smoke detectors that will go off with any form of smoke, vapor, or steam. These type of detectors are more of a motion detector and even steam from a hot shower can set them off. I have never stayed in a hotel room with one of those.

First off, when I am asked is that a e-cig I say NO, I never use the words electric cigarette or e-cig :nah:
I explain to them that a electric cigarette is a device that uses a electric coil to ignite a dry tobacco which throws off smoke and that is not what I have :grr:
I tell them that what I have is a personnel vaporizer and it's just like the vaporizer in a hospital or like what a person would use in their house.
And just like those, it helps me breath and I use them for my asthma

This is what my night stand next to my hotel bed looks like,

These are my travel kits

The only problem I ever had was the hotel maids and the chemicals they use. :glare:

All of them mods I had sitting out plus two 120ml bottles of juice I left open to steep all got ruined,
I think their cleaner, air freshener, or something else they sprayed got in them :grr:
Thank you @FringeChief68 !!!!

The shower cap tip is neat. But did anybody experiment with an alarm that goes off with vapor and then tried to cover it up and it stopped firing?

On a different note. I hope one day CASAA will contact the various hotel chains and explain to them what is vaping. And then publish a list of vaping friendly hotels.

Looks like honesty didn't come back to bite me... this time. Just checked out of the hotel that I set the alarm off at and there was no fines on my account. Checked my credit card I used for incidentals when I checked in, no charge there either. Looks like I am in the clear. Welp, I have definitely learned a few lesson's both from the actual incident and from all the responses here. Next time I won't cave so easy, Hampton....

Unless the FD sends you a bill.

What right does a firefighter have to get your name, tlf, and date of birth?

I would be suspicious of any firefighter asking me for any personal information.

Firefighters are actually law enforcement personnel; they can even arrest you, if they feel the need.

I know that firemen can detain somebody that's interfering in any way with their job when they're on the scene, but I didn't know that they have any special powers to arrest anybody, unless it were a Fire Marshall or somebody who's packing a gun.

Can't anybody arrest anybody else, in a citizen's arrest? I've also read about cops arresting firemen on the scene of a fire.

I suppose it may vary, depending on the state... but I'm pretty sure that in GA, a lawful order from a firefighter carries the same weight as a lawful order from any type of police officer, and they can arrest you if necessary.

Why? Don't they have the rght in the capacity of investigating a fire or false alarm to take down names etc? In case charges need to be filed?

You're probably right. I just thought that the fireman sounded like a bit of a jerk when reading the OP.

The OP could have just as easily happened to me, since I wasn't aware either that a smoke alarm would be so sensitive that it got triggered by vaping. I will definitely keep that in mind the next time that I'm in a hotel.

And that's why threads like these Are important. Even though the subject has been discussed multiple times, who thinks about this stuff? I sure didn't when new to vaping. The only way I ever found out is by stumbling across a thread, just like this one, and learned from someone else's experience.

Oh I totally agree with you! The fireman did sound like a jerk. He couldhave handled it in a more professional way and not so heavy handed.
