Hi Everyone,

I was a pack, pack & 1/2 a day smoker for over 20 years. I started vaping about 10 days ago at 24mg. I'm down to 5ml of 15mg daily (gonna start 12mg tomorrow).

I'm curious as to how long it took any of you to get off nicotine completely? Also, do you still have the need to vape a 0% liquid; and if so, is it for the flavor or the need to keep 'blowing smoke' (for lack of a better term)?

I think it's all way to variable. I used to want a huge throat hit and as much nic as possible. And now I'm seeing that I can't handle the throat hit as much anymore and nice content isnt as important to me. I'm on my second round with vaping I baught 24mg at first like a week or two ago Ive been vaping some 16mg all day today without any problems. I had a cigarette this morning but I approach it from the idea of not fighting. If I want a smoke I'll. Have one but my e cig pretty much keeps me away eventually itll just be all vapor like last time. I was smoking roughly a pack and a half a day a week maybe two? later I've had a pack for 4 days and theres still 9 left in it.

The whole not fighting thing what led me to switch the first time. I picked up an e cig just to save some cash and ended up smoking maybe 4 cigarettes the first day instead of 20-30. Then eventually it just lowered and the no cigarettes all vapor.

I guess what I'm trying to say is stop concentrating on what you need to do to quit and just let it happen. Don't force it don't rush it if you need nic or a cigarette then go for it. Either way if you keep vaping you'll get to the point where you enjoy it more and you'll stick to it instead of smoking. After you have your footing Have a variable ammount of nic available and start from 0 in the morning. Any ex smoker knows the morning especially if you drink coffee is when you need it. If you can't handle it slowly step up threw the cycles till your satisfied. I dunno I look at it differently then others...

Thanks Orb Skewer, It's kind worrisome not knowing what strength I'd be using. For example, say I picked the 0% first and was ok with it; then started on 1.8% the following week. Sounds somewhat counter productive but maybe I'm not understanding correctly.

My first night vaping (24mg), I only had one cigarette before bed. (I smoked all day before stetting up my mod.)
Second day, again 24mg but had two cigs (morning & night).
Third day was the same thing (switched to 18mg).
Fourth day, smoked one in the morning (still on 18mg).
Fifth day, 18mg all day (no cigs).
Sixth day, same (no cigs).
Seventh till now, 15mg's (no cigs)

Anyway, like I said earlier, I'm gonna try 12mg tomorrow.

-Permafrying, why are you on your second round with vaping? What caused you to go back to analogs?

Many new vapors, including myself have problems understanding that nicotine is not a big dangerous thing. And if you are cutting it out because you don't like being "addicted", then you need to cut out caffeine, carbs and sugars as well :D

Reduce it to a good place, then be happy. If you NEVER get to 0 nic, not only is it not the end of the world... It's not going to end your life.

Hi Coach :)

An interesting read for you: Discovery Health "How can nicotine be good for me?"

The ANTZ have us so brainwashed to believe nicotine is BAD for us. Umm not necessarily. There are some health benefits associated with nic, as long as Smoking is out of the equation. As we all know, vaping is not smoking.

I don't know if I will ever get to zero nic, if I'm only successful in dropping to 3 or even 6mg, I will be happy. I'm at 9mg now after a year of vaping exclusively.

Good luck in your quest. :)

Edited to add: I started at 18 - 24mg

I didn't start vaping to quit nicotine. I started vaping because I didn't like what smoking was doing to me. Couldn't sleep, I'd wake up hacking up a lung, etc. etc. etc. But I enjoyed smoking. I started vaping to get rid of the nasty effects but still get my nicotine fix.

Now, I have slowly dropped the strength. I'm now at 4-6mg ejuice (I started at 24mg) and I'm happy with that. I really have no intention or desire to cut it out completely.

I did start vaping to stop nic,,,,,,,

although there are health benefits to USING nicotine, there are other benefits to NOT using it,,,,,,,,so each to his or her own :)

I like that I no longer have nic fits,,,,,,,and there's quite a bit of evidence you heal faster after surgeries and injuries if you are nic free.

it's a toss up  but for me, I just didn't want to feel like I HAD TO have a vape,,,,,,,,

so I went down very gradually over a 3 month period, starting about the time I hit the 9 month vaping anniversary.

Now I can go to disney world and not crave one all day,,,,,,,I still love to vape, though,,,,,,,and I vape 0 mg, obviously, and I love it!

Im at 12 mg and plan to drop to 3.

I don't think I'll ever go to 0. It will be the equivalent of drinking near beer to me. What's the point?

That is a question I'm asked once in a while Butters-here is 'my' take
ahem....

0 Nic? whats the point of vaping then?
When I smoked I would get the craving every hour or so-and spark one up, for 25 years I did that, only when I got older did I think about it as 'entrapment'-it was costing me a fortune and was potentialy killing me, tried several times to quit and failed-until vaping came along :D

The reason vaping is a rip roaring success is because millions have found the transition from smoking fairly easy-I struggled at first-but that didn't last long at all, as time went by I realised that I didn't 'crave' vaping the way I did with cigs-hmmm...?.

The 'real' crappy anxiety (craving) I experienced while I was a smoker-I didn't get with vaping (it took a long time vaping before I realised this). Then I saw the Killeen report, I didn't take it as 'gospel' but it did get me thinking.

As a smoker I got a 'hit' or an anxiety (craving) release, I dont get that same rush (release) from vaping, sure-its relaxing and enjoyable.
I vape nic free because I dont feel I 'need' nicotine-I did when I was a smoker (or I thought I did) -I'd be climbing the walls and irritable if my smoke was delayed.

After my Nic free 'experiment' and the liberating realisation that I could 'cope' without Nic, I thought-is there any point in 'me' using a substance that I feel no real benefit (reward) from and dont feel any negative effect from not using it ?
Its like that alcoholic beverage that has the tiny (real) gold glitter in it (IMO) there is no benefit from it and in all likelyhood no harm in it either-but your paying more for it (gold is expensive).

Finaly-each to their own, I'm not dissing Nic-not at all, it is a very beneficial molecule and vitamin-there are lots and lots of positives to support its free availability-and we're not all the same, I have friends that vape 45mg-it makes them happy and satisfied-above all it should be left as a 'freedom of choice' recreational product-no different to caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, Red bull.

Well I started at 24mg and am still at 24mg a year later with no regret. I smoked 1 1/2 -2 packs a day for 30 years, though. And I was one of those confirmed smokers, too.

As was mentioned in Robino1s post nicotine does actually have neuroprotective and nootropic effects. I have seen this in my other studies of brain chemistry.

The burning tobacco seems to be the culprit of all the health problems, not the nicotine, per se.

Decreasing nicotine? Eh...naaah.

(It seems that you're(OP) stepping it down a bit quicker than I would though.) :)

Yep. We definitely agree on this. If it's not providing a benefit, then you don't need it. So far, it helps control my depression and ADD... Maybe I will be at 0 at some point, but as long as I get a benefit, I use it. :D
