How long did it take you to get used to not having a cigarette?

Well, I started using ecigs in Nov 2009, was still smoking along with them, got my first 510 in Jan 2010 and what a difference it made. Discovered others flavors at that point and realized that the poor choice of equipment to start and tobacco flavors were the biggest reasons I was still smoking analogs. Of course having something to do with my hands and being able to hold the ecig like a cigarette was a big factor as well, but it wasn't till I had the right equipment and flavors ( for me) in place that I had quit the analogs without even realizing that they were no longer a part of my daily life. I do however think about them from time to time, but then I get a whiff of one and that all goes away. I love to vape and experiment with new flavors and equipment and analogs are a thing of the past, it's been almost 7 months and I can see me continuing this journey for how ever long it takes me to just not do it anymore. Maybe forever, for now though, I'm happy vaping and happier not to be tied to cigarettes....

I knew after the first 5 min on my new Ego that I could do this. Haven't looked back since. I'm on my fourth day. The 2nd morning I really wanted a cig. A couple drags on my Ego and I was fine. Now to break the habit of looking for my cigs, lighter & ashtray. lol! Have had an open pack in front of my keyboard since I started & haven't even been tempted.

I know it's not that easy for everyone, but don't give up. Many people have to taper off and there is nothing wrong with that. Don't beat yourself up over it. Just don't give up!

About a week after starting his PV my husband found himself sucking on a pen wondering why he wasn't getting any vapor. And for about the first week we both found ourselves picking up a lighter with our PV and ALMOST trying to light the end  :vapor::vapor:

I'm at hour 36 without an analog and I'm more active and in a better mood than I've been in the 16 years since I started smoking. Part of me would love a cig but it's in the far back of my mind and not overriding my daily life. I honestly never thought I could last this long but the fact that there isn't a single cigarette in the house and I've got all my juice within arms reach is a tremendous help.

One week for me. I was away at a conference, bought my first e-cig. The night I got home, I tried to smoke a real cig twice, put it out both times because it tasted like something NO ONE should put in their mouth!

I've had the urge to see if that still holds true but I really don't want to taste that awful taste ever again. (Now that I can taste everything again)

I struggle whenever I quit, even if I use my e-cig, and I always relapse. I'm determined to quit though.

Please be kind to yourself. We vapers don't have to ride the Smoke/Quit/Fail/Self-Flagellation roller coaster anymore. Whee!

After almost 40 years as a smoker, I started vaping in June and immediately cut down my smoking from 1.5 PAD to 5-6 cigarettes. A few weeks later, I tried to completely cut out the analogs and I could have eaten a cigarette, I wanted one so badly. I decided that was for the birds and went back to smoking the really important cigs... first thing in the morning, after dinner, etc.

On my sobriety anniversary, I woke up that morning and thought, "I celebrate my freedom today. I wonder if I could commemorate the event by going without a cigarette just this one day." No cigarettes that day. Then another and another... today was day 11. My family is amazed but not as amazed as I am. :)

I've struggled a little in the past few days but nothing a yummy flavor in my eGo couldn't handle. Since you are determined, you will make it. Take it nice and easy, enjoy vaping, and pretty soon, the cigarettes will simply fall away.

The mailman dropped off my package about noon, and at 3:00PM I had to charge the battery. So just for the heck of it and pure habit, I went and made a RYO, and couldn't finish it.
The smell and taste just was awful: not to mention it set off a coughing jag that made my head spin. after 44 years that's about all I could do, smoke and cough. I put it out, and never touched another. It didn't take me long to figure out my charging schedule and order carts and juice so I wouldn't get caught short ever! Extra parts a must!

I haven't smoked a cigarette in over a day. This is the longest I have intentionally gone without smoking. This thread really helped me out, along with talking to one of my friends who quit smoking, without using an e-cig. I'm focused on the fact that pretty soon, I won't feel like having a cigarette at all, because I'll be so used to being without them. My e-cig is helping me out a lot and I honestly can't see myself smoking a real cigarette ever again. Luckily, I've only been smoking for for two years, so I don't think it will take that long for the tar to get out of my lungs.

mmm, sometimes have the problem of craving a "real cigarette" and i have given into the craving once, and uggggghhhhhh it was so nasty that any craving now just requires me to remember that!

there is a youtube clip somewhere that shows a smoking machine to demonstrate the amount of tar/crap that comes out of ciggies... imagining all that tar coating my lovely clean, pink lung surface and i pick up my 510 :D

I was fortunate to be one that stopped instantly upon taking up the e-cig. I will hit 7 months smoke free in 2 days and have never once had a strong urge to smoke an analog.

I have also over the 7 months dropped from initially 24 mg/ml to my current 7-9 mg/ml in steps of course. When I make a batch I shave off some strength sometimes.

However I do occasionally have a curiosity about having one smoke to see what it is like after all this time. I think when I hit the 1 year mark I will go ahead and have one just to see. Whether or not I finish it I don't know but I am curious if it will be revolting or not.

Only reason I haven't satisfied my curiosity is I am proud of my smoke free streak and second spending 4 bucks to buy a pack just to have one smoke seems wasteful. Heck with my reduction in nic I may not even be a vaper at the 1 year mark. Not trying to quit vaping I just find myself stepping down in nic and not chaining as often as I did in the starting months.

I smoked for about 10 years, been vaping for a week. After a day (actually went the whole first day without smoking) I tried one of my analogs (had gotten a fresh pack right before I bought my ego, smoked 3)... tasted like CRAP. A week later, there is still only 4 missing from that pack, haven't had another since.

First few days I had a craving, but I remember how nasty it tasted and just vaped some more. After that I moved up to a higher nic (actually just got high of the same flavour and mixed with the low I had), haven't really had any cravings since... though I have cravings for the "ritual" of smoking. To combat that I've found myself topping off the ego fairly often, with slow drops watching it seep into the filler... just replacing one ritual with another :p

mine was immediate. however, i am a former vaper, so i knew what to expect. i knew i loved vaping, but relapsed when in early 09 my atty or batty died. well, now that there are such GREAT new and improved e-cigs out there, it's easier. I got my eGo four weeks ago, and that's all she wrote-aint had a desire for analog since the first vape. i smoked pack plus a day for 27 years.
