Maybe they will be able to restrict concentrated nicotine sales from online purchase so you'll only be able to get it in a pharmacy if they sell it.

In the most recent congressional hearing on the subject of e-cigs, Zeller said "we tried to ban e-cigs, but the courts wouldn't let us (Scotta) but with the deeming of e-cigs as tobacco products, we get a second try.

Because we're not the only ones who use nicotine concentrations, it is impossible to have a complete ban. Like edyle mentioned, there may be a ban on online sales for individuals, but it would still need to be available for educational/scientific use. If higher nicotine concentrations became unavailable, we'd find other ways in which to purchase/make it.

With the new CA laws, I will soon have to get pre-approval for online sales and show proof of age at the po before picking up packages. As much of a bother it may be, I'm thrilled that online sales weren't banned completely, as the new bill originally stated.

As new laws set in, new vapers may have to turn to diy or purchase from b&ms.

If they're going to ban e-cigs, then they'd have to ban cigarettes and all things tobacco/nicotine.

Nicotine could be reclassified, there a wide range of compounds encompassed under the term 'research chemical' (google the term) not available to the general public. A pharmaceutical company or scientific laboratory would not have any issue, they deal in restricted chemicals every day....vapers, vape shops, e-liquid producers could easily be shut out.

Yes that's what I'm saying; the same way you can get a bottle of iodine at the pharmacy, I don't see why you can't pick up a bottle of 10% nicotine. I can see the FDA regulating the nicotine so you can't just buy it online but you'd have to show up at a pharmacy. The same way the pharmacy won't sell tobacco to minors, they won't sell nicotine to minors.

Iodine is not a restricted research chemical, researchchemical.com

If you are a chemist in pharmaceutical, biotechnology or industrial R&D, manufacturing or diagnostic chemistry, or academic, government or institutional research, you’ll find the research chemicals you seek, plus; find helpful information profiling each chemical

You seem to be saying that nicotine is a restricted research chemical? Is that what you are saying?

Simple, water-soluble nicotine is now legally available. So now the DEA at the FDA's request, can list it as a schedule II controlled substance (no legislation needed). Just as with previous transitions between the legal and illegal status of a certain drugs, there will be an amnesty period. Turn over the water soluble nicotine to the gov't or destroy it. After that, you'll be guilty of a felony for possessing it w/o a prescription. We've been through this before, with other drugs, haven't we? Go back to the turn of the 20th century.

So just throwing words around to confuse.

Ok.

Not at all, just pointing out the FDA deeming regulations make it extremely simple for them to make e-liquid disappear for the general public, of limit the mg/mL of the same to the point of it being ineffectual for many vapers, their choice..

The FDA is not our friend.

The FDA wants to regulate both equipment and nicotine just like tobacco cigarettes.

Only one type of new tobacco cigarette has been approved in the last five years.

Any vaping product - whether it's a particular type of e-liquid, nic. base, or even a simple drip tip would have to be individually approved by the FDA, unless it was on the market prior to Feb '07 (which none of them were).

That's why CASAA says that everything besides cigAlikes is going away: CASAA: FDA regulation of e-cigarettes: huge costs, little or no benefit, says CASAA

Somewhere out there
From my reading, I believe Roger is correct.

I don't think limiting concentration is on the FDA radar at this time, it looks more like it will be all or nothing for liquid nicotine in the future, nothing being a very real possibility.

But the question is interesting, so I will play along.

The highest concentration I purchase now is 48mg
At 24mg I could carry on basically just like today
12mg would still cover 95+% of my usage
6mg could work, buy I'd be chain vaping all the time, which I prefer not to do

I buy it at 36mg and mix my gear to about 9mg. My wife prefers 18mg juice and i fear her more than the FDA, so as long as i can get 18mg nic - i'm cool!

When i first stopped smoking i would vape that 36 straight, and so lowering concentrations will just run the risk of making e-cigs as useless as willpower alone to new vapers if we're not careful.

And therein lies the problem, current smokers never being able to quit with e-cigs...
