I been vaping almost 4 year, I started on 24% and then went to 18% after 2 months. Then as I went from a MTL device to a sub ohm tank I found 12% was enough and that was when I had my last cig. Then over the next few months got down to 3mg.. I have vaped 0% nic for a month or 2 here and there, but I mix my own with 2-3% nic and just happy to keep it there for now..

Hi, I started on 3mg then jumped up to 18mg and stopped smoking cigarettes pretty much straight away.
Over 7 months Ive moved down through different levels to 3mg and even to zero nicotine. Right now Im vaping 12mg but only because I did bad math when mixing and realised while mixing a batch that I added double what I meant to. Phone rang, got distracted.
Im a mtl vaper and use about 3-4ml a day. It doesnt seem to matter what mg the nicotine is, 3 or 12, I still use the same amount of juice. Even when using zero nic I still use 3-4ml. I dont find it a challenge to not use nicotine, Ive gone up to 5 days just to see how it felt. It was no task, I didnt feel any real loss.
I feel that when I use nicotine all the static or external noise is shut out or turned off and I can concentrate better. The level of this affect doesnt seem to be dependent on the nicotine dosage, its the same whether I use 3mg or 12mg.
6mg seems to have the right amount of "pepper" in the taste for me, I vape mainly flavourless and mainly a VG and distilled water mix. I cant do PG or most flavours.

I’ve heard you can use up to 10% DW. What’s your typical percentage? If you’ve tried using DW in flavored ejuice, how was the flavor delivery compared to PG?
Hi, I use 5-10% DW. I havnt settled on an ideal % yet. It doesnt seem to matter too much to me if its 5 or 10%. I think the last batch I made was 5%.
Im sorry, I just havnt been able to vape flavours or PG enough to form an opinion on how DW affects flavour.
I quit smoking using 70/30 VG/PG but after 4months I started getting red rashes across my face and blown sinus's and found VG and DW with nic didnt affect me like that. I wouldnt mind a decent hit of flavour every once in a while tbh. Still looking for a solution.

10% is my usual. I can't compare to PG, I have issues. I tolerate up to 10% PG and that's used up in flavors. Even if I was sure I had a non-PG flavor it wouldn't be worth it for me to keep PG in stock.

If you don’t mind, how does PG affect you? I wish I’d ordered a smaller bottle initially instead of the gallon:facepalm: Oh well, it could be worse!

Have you considered using VG based flavoring?
My skin also really dislikes PG! Took me a while to figure out the culprit but I’m now about 90% certain I’m PG sensitivity. I have DW in my lab to try but haven’t gotten around to it. My juice calculator wants me to use a PG & VG combo or one or the other totalling 100% and won’t allow me to omit any percentage for DW. I’ll probably have to do a base and add as a flavor, I assume. I’ll look into it more. I’ve been curious of this for a while. Time to pull the trigger!
Thank you both for sharing!

In 2009 when I don't think anyone had an idea about PG/VG issues I kept blaming nicotine and cutting it until I was at 0mg and kept getting worse. In addition to generally feeling sick like I had too much nicotine all the way to 0mg (that could've been partly IBD which I also didn't know about or the link to nicotine helping me in 2009 either), anxiety.
It seemed to build up. Over the years I could use my ecigs to avoid going outside at my sister's for Christmas or Super Bowl parties but not much more than very occasionally. It would start with anxiety.

Before I restarted in 2012 while reading about the newer equipment I found the PG issues mentioned so I tried PG-free before buying a new ecig. Did fine accidentally not smoking over night so ordered new stuff and put it away in case it was something in the RN4072s. No problems with PG-free other than IBD getting worse as I quit smoking and then nicotine because of the IBD flaring. (I thought I had colorectal cancer which got me to quit in the first place.)
What's odd is even though I was really sick from quitting smoking, and would get sick from 18mg in the mornings trying to get over the morning cigarette to feel better it was different enough from 2009 that I wasn't blaming ecigs.

Some time later I decided to try a PG flavor just to see. Painful lungs, coughing a little blood. That was after only 1ml of the unknown mix. I'd guess it's dehydrating the tissues it contacts.

Looking back with hind sight and trying to come up with the most reasonable answer, anxiety and generally feeling sick may be preexisting conditions and it's lung/chest pain that triggers anxiety and was not smoking causing me to feel sick, but I don't want to test to figure it further than the lung pain and coughing blood to find out.
Or it could cause anxiety and since I started ecigs again in 2012 I've been going to Dr's who don't argue about giving me meds for it. I might have medicated during my last test and not thought about it.

I’ve noticed a wide range of PG sensitivity symptoms being described. For me, it’s skin issues. I’m sure it can effect different people in different ways. Guess I’m just curious. Best of luck with everything & thanks for sharing that!

I just thought many more reduced to zero and stayed there...
Oic. Tbh, I would think that most of those who got down to zero and stayed there would just quit vaping entirely - and would therefore not be hanging around here. :)

What I'm finding fascinating is the number of people who have dramatically reduced their nicotine but not quite made it to zero. I'm wondering how much of that has to do with determination.

For some of us, myself included, it’s got nothing to do with determination. It was never my goal to be nic free, or even smoke free, only to cut back on smoking. So I had more than enough will power to do that, and set my sights on quitting entirely, and met that goal as well.

As others have said, I view nic about the same as caffeine, another addictive substance I have no desire to give up.

Unlike many of you, almost 5 years of vaping, I still want a cigarette. I hate that, but that’s the truth. When I’m around a smoker, when I see them at the store, when I’m stressed, late at night when I can’t sleep, first thing in the morning, I am still jonesing for a Wide. I’m an addict, once an addict always an addict.

If I were an alcoholic and a cup of coffee could keep me sober, why would I try to get off caffeine?

I wasn't really happy with the word 'determination' there. I didn't mean a lack of will-power, but rather the absence of a firm decision to quit nicotine. I think many of the people who successfully transitioned to vaping from smoking also have enough will-power or whatever it is to drop the nicotine to zero - if it mattered enough to them.

As you said, nicotine seems to be about as 'harmful' as caffeine (although research is lacking, so more information could become available). Knowing that, I don't have the same determination to quit nicotine as I did to quit inhaling smoke and ashes. I think I could do it if it mattered enough to me to exert my will-power, but it just doesn't. I might add that if I were in your position and thought eliminating nicotine would make me crave cigarettes again, I wouldn't even consider it.
