So, I'll ask my question here instead. I would like only veterans answering please, I am desperate about this.

I've been a smoker for more than twenty years. I tried to quit many times, without success. I started vaping five weeks ago. Immediate success!!! I gave up analogs the same day I started vaping, and it wasn't even hard. I was so happy about this! I talked to friends and coworkers, and I already "converted" two people.

Now, two weeks ago, I started having severe skin problems. Itching on my arms so intense I scratched myself until it bled. I seen a doctor, he told me it was an allergic reaction. He prescribed me corticosteroids (oral Prednisone 50mg for a week) he ordered me to stop vaping, because it's the only thing that changed in my daily routine, it must be the source of the allergy.

I'm back on cancer sticks for now. What a huge, immense, FRUSTRATING disappointment! I managed to quit smoking, and I really liked vaping before the itches came...
BUT I am not willing to give up vaping yet! I want to try 100%VG.

Before I joined this forum, I read a lot of it, and learned that Propylene Glycol is the substance most likely to cause allergies when vaping.

I found a supplier (Velvet Vapors) who has a large variety of liquids that are 100% PG free (no PG in the base, no PG in the flavors, no PG in the added nicotine).

I am about to order from them.

But maybe I would need different hardware too. I read often that 100%VG liquids are more problematic.

So, here's my question: Is there a convenient, practical, trouble free way of vaping 100% VG liquids?

Direct dripping is not practical. I would consider this only if nothing else works.

I would like to use a tank or a clearomizer, so that I don't have to refill often.

When I started vaping, I went straight to variable voltage. My hardware is: A Lavatube V1, and a few Stardust V1 clearomizers ( the ones with short wicks).

I was completely satisfied with this setup when vaping 70%PG-30%VG liquids.

Will this work for 100%VG? Would the new Stardust with long wicks be better?

I read somewhere on this forum that vaping 100%VG is better done at high voltages. Less buildup on the heating element this way. Is it true?

Which voltage/resistance works well with 100%VG?

I know that my Lavatube has quite low amperage limit at 2.5A. Should I get a new, more powerful mod in order to correctly vape 100%VG?
I really want to resume vaping, and I don't want to have to go through a series of trials and errors. My budget is limited. There's four new 30ml bottles of regular liquid in my refrigerator that I can't use, and I already missed three days of work because of the allergy. Can't afford to spend on errors anymore.

Show me the way, please!
Thanks in advance for your time.

I diy & make all my 100%(or as close as I can get) VG e-juice & I also use stardusts ...& ce2's & no problems here ...if the vg juice is really thick you can always thin it w/5-10% distilled water or PGA (vodka).

The only thing is that I MAY clean my coils more often, but really it seems that it's the flavorings that make the difference there more than just being a VG problem . Clearer the juice= cleaner your coils stay I do believe is the current thought.

Flavorings can also be a problem allergy wise ....what flavors have you tried ?
heavy citrus, cinnamon, some fruits can cause problems, just like when eating them .

Pg makes me crazy itchy wise & it seems like my throat is closing up & if I take allergy meds it passes (sure sign there).

when you order you might get some unflavored nic juice too, JUST in case you need to use it while trying to figure out which flavor is causing the allergy ...if you have problems with the new juice .

I still just use 3.7 egos (I could be wrong ) but there shouldn't be much differences for VV ...

hope this helps :)

*post edit & thanks for asking cuz it just dawned on me as I was proof reading my post that I am "right there w/ya'" ...I have had "OMG very itchy hives" for a few days now & duh what's NEW ? some very yummy new sweet tangerine e-juice that I have been using for a little longer than few days now  waa! guess I have to put that aside for a few days to see if it passes....

Where you least expect it....
Sorry to hear about your troubles. There are a good number of people that are allergic to PG. VG does have a negative effect on atomizers and cartomizers. It doesn't mean that you cannot get a good vape on them.

The set-up your thinking about using will work with 100% VG. You will have to tip them over to feed the coil every 5 pulls or so. Longer vs shorter wicks will be irrelevant. Since the viscosity of VG will vary from vendor to vendor. Some are thicker then others. So, even with longer wicks. They won't feed the coil fast enough. You will have to resort to tipping it over anyways.

You can vape 100% VG on any voltage that you would like. Gunk buildup on the coil is inevitable. For the ego vision/stardust. This can be a problem depending on how much you like fiddling. Something to think about. You might want to try cartomizers and perhaps a tank.

You don't need a new device. 2.5amp limit is plenty of power for the average vaper. If you need anymore advice. Do not hesitate to give me a pm. I will walk you through the process.

If your 100% vg juice is dark in color, it will vastly reduce the life of a carto. It's more about the flavorings than the pg/vg ratio. So if you can get light colored 100% vg juices like the ones I make DIY, you will be fine using it in a carto or a carto/tank setup.

Hope this helps. Welcome to ECF and vaping!

Hello, I also had to switch to 100% VG. I was vaping 70/30 PG/VG and my throat and sinuses
would be raw. And I was drinking over 2gal water
a day. Using sinus rinse 1-2 times a day, and moisture spray all day.
So I started VG and it has been going good.
Except one brand made my hands and feet
feel like I could scratch the skin off. That must
have been from the flavorings.
So far I've had success with AVE juice,
Virgin Vapor, Sweet -Vapes.
I only have a Kgo battery, and use Stardust,
Boge and Smoke Tech cartos.
Hope this helps.

It happens. You are looking for an excuse to quit vaping.

Look, when you switch from smoking to vaping it isn't painless. You are going to hurt for the first couple of days no matter what you use. Vaping isn't anything like smoking.

Buck up, get tough and make the switch.

Switching from smoking to vaping is a lot easier than quitting smoking cold turkey without vaping.

For a serious smoker it helps to have an e-cigarette that produces enough warm vapor to resemble smoking as closely as possible with a realistic battery capacity. A 3.7V APV like a KGO, E-Power 14650 or any other 3.7V or higher device helps a lot.

I smoked 1.5 packs per day for 35 years. What I use is listed in my signature. Good luck.

My advice also. I had an allergic reaction to the sweetener Ethyl Maltol/ Cotton Candy. Others have reported having a reaction to Ethyl Maltol.

Thank you so much everyone for the help. Yesterday, before I joined this forum, I saw a generalist physician who prescribed me oral corticosteroids and ordered me to stop the vaping.

Today, as ordered by the generalist, I saw a dermatologist, I showed him my arm: he immediately concluded, very sure about himself: "That's no allergy, it's infection. Stop the corticosteroids and take these antibiotics instead. You will be fine. Propylene glycol has nothing to do with your case." He never heard about vaping. I explained him. He said it was a good thing if it helped me stop smoking. All the itches I have had nothing to do with starting vaping a few weeks ago...I spent no more than ten minutes in his office. He was obviously in a hurry. Many other patients to see after me, perhaps. That's one of the very few disadvantages of socialized health-care.

After all I read about PG allergies here, and my symptoms that matched, and now, the verdict of the dermatologist, I am quite confused. I am really tempted to resume vaping my 70% PG liquid, but I am also wary...

Thanks for the feedback. As far as GPs go mine is absolutely useless but is highly regarded within the sports world. The ONLY reason I stay with him is because of the specialists he has- absolutely amazing people. Many times these specialists have come to a diagnosis of my issues contrary to my GP's opinion. Just my :2c:

yeah I never know what to think when it comes to DR.s ....especially hurried ones ....:glare:

NO insurance here so I have to figure it out on my own

But you can do it ...just gotta pay attention to what's going on
keeping NOTES at first helped ...I probably should still be keeping notes ...itch itch itch :D

but back to YOUR issue...just vape what you have, take meds & see how it goes ... & GOOD LUCK !!
