I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how many people are vaping in this country?

When I talk to someone about how safe it is to vape I would like to be able to say something like:

About 438,000 smoking-related deaths per year.

About 0 deaths from electronic cigarettes.

It would help to know how may vapers there compared to tobacco users.
Can't say how accurate the 438,000 is either.

I'm using taptalk for this forum instead of going through the full website so i cant verify but I'm wanting to say the full website has the # of users on it somewhere. It's not an accurate number as some people may have multiple identities and certainly not all vapers use this forum but it could work as an "at least" number if you're not using it for any firm scientific documentation. I don't believe there has been any documented instances of any health problems (other than allergies or malfunctioning of improperly used equipment) associated with vaping to date. That doesn't mean that problems won't arise from continued use (just like anything that is not water or organic fruits and vegetables) but chemically speaking, it's substantially better than smoking tobacco.

Kimber: The current number is 49,101. Personally? I'd guess the total number in the US to be around 150,000, but that's nothing more than an educated guess. It'd be interesting to see any real data on this.

Thanks! It takes too long to load the full site from my phone and I'm so far out in the sticks I get faster service on my phone than slow dial up!

I don't know that anybody really knows.

Someone posted today that they read around 20,000 to 30,000 people switch to vaping per week at this point.
And they didn't post a link, but sounded like they were confident in what they were saying.
:)

Might want to try sending a PM to Bill Godshall on this forum.
He would probably have a better answer than anyone else here would.

The last figure that I saw a couple of weeks ago was a little over 500,000 and growing at a rate of about 20,000 per month.

My big reason for guessing so much lower, though, was factoring in people who make the switch but don't stick with it. Especially when you consider the fact that outside of ECF, a ton of people get suckered in by Mall Kiosks and the like, which generally sell inferior products. Bit of a sad reality, but you know that it happens. I know that at one point, I was personally about one Google search away from giving up. I mean, this is all speculation, obviously, but just something to keep in mind.

banjo do you know where you saw that?
If there are about 50,000 on this forum I would think that there are at least 500,000 in the country. I doubt if even 1 in 10 vapors out there would join a forum.

443,000 deaths annually
49,400 deaths per year from secondhand smoke exposure
269,655 deaths annually among men
173,940 deaths annually among women

There are over 33,000 people converting to vaping WEEKLY. In all of my research I did see a few that estimate roughly 500,000 - 750,000 vapers globablly. I also saw one that said up to 950,000

I actually made a video on it, but it's not up yet. :(

Shan, I'll be waiting to see you video.

Despite the governments slant of unproven safety. Every study I heard of has produced evidence that vaping is safer than cigarettes. As far as I know no study or lab report has shown any serious health consequences. The most compelling statistic is 0 deaths from vaping and 443,000 deaths from tobacco. I would have to say that the evidence we have so far is overwhelmingly in favor of vaping.

Any one out there disagree with that?

Don't have time to research source again at the moment....
September USA TODAY/Associated Press article mentions a few numbers here;
FDA warns electronic cigarette companies about health claims - USATODAY.com
"20,000 - 30,000 new e-smokers a week..."
blucigs sales for 2010 alone are going to top $30 million
Slightly older Wall Street Journal article;
E-Cigarettes Spark New Smoking War - WSJ.com

Don't get me wrong....ECF is an awesome forum but some of you guys basing 'research' off of it is disturbing. The world is bigger than ECF....much bigger.
