I'd try to start with 3% and perhaps work your way up to 5-6%.
The amount of water will somewhat depend on the climate you live in, as well as your device, but I found that 6% water into pure VG gave me about the equivalent of a 50/50 PG/VG juice.

I tried calculating it at some point, but apparently dealing with mixes of different viscosities goes bejond my napkin math.

I think these percents sound ok but another thing I'd think about is germs. Would 800 ml of vg mixed with 5% water stay good long enough to be used up? I'd think so because you'd be using distilled water and it would mostly be sealed. But I don't really know, and I'd think it would be almost as easy to mix smaller batches as needed.

As stated, first try smaller test batches, but also it very much depends on the viscosity of vg, which varies pretty much... I use 5% water now, because my vg is thinner with current supplier/batch, and before I used 10%...

A rough estimate is that water thins 4x better than pg, meaning 10% water is roughly like a 40/60 pg/vg blend, but again, depends on viscosity...

I myself mix 350ml's vg/water at a time, but that's just because i've tested it out previously in smaller amounts, which I always do when getting new vg...

Usp vg may have up to 5% water included, but it's most often 99.5%+ pure glycerol. However, the time between bottling and quality of bottles/storage can thin the product out additionally...

OP seems to have forgotten this thread right after the first post, quite useless to respond @mhertz

Really?

So there is nobody else reading on this forum who would derive any benefit from the OP's question, and the answers following?

Funny. I got something out of it. I bet a lot of others who are DIYing did, too.

Sounds like the OP is just trying to dilute the VG to make it easier to handle. I myself would find a better way to handle it other then thinning it right off the bat. How would you take into account how much thinning would be caused by adding PG flavoring during mixing.

Just use a measuring cylinder to measure it or a large syringe without a needle. VG would extract easily enough without thinning. You can also warm VG to thin it.

The whole point of thinning is to allow the mix to wick properly and NOT make it easier to handle. If thinned properly to wick properly then there should be no issues as far as handling the final mix.

Your right the OP did loose interest and never made it clear exactly what there trying to do but this has been discussed many times before and others will still benefit by the threads continuation even if the original OP lost interest.
