Like most people I love tons of vapor, and I mix my juices at 60%VG. I'm pretty happy with the density of the vapor this ratio generates. To those of you guys with a lot of DIY experience, how much does that really affect the taste of the juice?

Why is it that Halo, for example, uses far less than 60%VG? There mush be a good reason? Halo's juices are really bold and strong flavor, which is what I like about some of their juices.

At higher VG content, does that mean that we probably should up the Flavor %? Surely Halo has considered that, since people love thick vapes, yet they keep VG relatively low. This is perplexing me but I'm ready to make the experiments, lowering VG content and/or raising flavor %... can anyone out there with a lot of experience on this care to share notes?

Lastly, in other related threads, using a drop per 10ml of ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) or Lemon juice is often claimed to help make the flavors come out, particularly in a high VG juice. I have never tried this though. But I do have a question - if that would be a solution, then it still remains, why would a company like Halo that makes juices people love keep VG low?

What I would suggest is make a 60/40 VG/PG base with no nic. Then make three to four 5ml bottles around the percentage you think the concentrate should be at. Some concentrates are stronger than others, so if you think it should be at 10% then make 8,10 and 12 and take notes and fine tune from there. With the high VG since it doesn't carry flavor as well as PG your gonna have to bump up the flavor. I use a 60/40 PG/VG and I'm usually around 12% for most of my flavors. And once you got it where you like it add the nic... That way your not wasting nic as it costs more than PG and VG. Hope this helped.

My grandfather had a rule that I absolutely hated when I was a child, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." As to your questions about why Halo does one thing instead of another, I'll bet they use my grandfather's rule. It's what they did and it is working for them. I've never heard a Halo user complain about lack of vapor.

I use different levels of VG depending on an overall feel of the vapor as I don't find the taste greatly impacted. But, then again, I seldom have anything above 50/50 in VG content.

Sure, adding more flavoring may be the simple answer to more taste on high VG juice.

If that's true, then there may just be a significant economic reason as to why companies like Halo don't raise VG levels - flavorings simply cost five times more than PG or VG.

And since (as pointed out by Hoosier) barely anyone really complains of Halo's lack of vapor, the reason for lower VG may be as simple as: "nobody's complaining, why raise costs?"

Halo's lack of vapor didn't really catch my full attention until I got into DIY, when my 60%VG mixes produce about twice the vapor of my Halo juices (eyeballing it here).

From purely an economic standpoint, here's the math, in $, behind making 1,000ml (1L.) of TFA RY4 Double, using my retail costs, comparing proportionately lower VG and flavorings:

High VG Juice: 12% Flavoring, 60% VG, 11mg Nic = $86.15

Low VG Juice: 8% Flavoring, 40%VG, 11mg Nic = $73.48

That's a full 17% difference in cost between the two. That may not be a big figure for us end-users, but in business terms, that's enormous.

I have vendor juice that's 70pg/30vg, and it's thicker and more rich than their own juice at 70vg/30pg.

I don't claim to know the difference, I just wish I could repeat their success!!

I diy at 50/50 exclusively. I like the vapor, hate the throat hit, and can't vape 100% vg because of various reasons. This is a good compromise for me.
