Making hi-VG ejuice... need suggestions

Any suggestions for making hi-vg e juice? I'm starting to develop a pg sensitivity. Any time I've made a 30pg/70vg, I get a 'burnt' taste. Does the type supplier make a difference (I just ordered WizardLabs vg)? Also, any additives that may help(like distilled water or alcohol)?
I'm relatively new to diy, but I've done okay using ........... DIY flavors (just not using high vg). Also, I want to experiment w/my own flavors using high vg & don't want them all to be duds.

ThanX in advance!

We make a "VG base" and use it for everything. It is 80% VG; 13.5% distilled water; 4.5 saline solution (.9% sterile saline) and 2% pga (pure grain alcohol). Edit: the only PG in our mixes is what is in the flavors.

The water is for diluting the VG; the saline solution seriously "pops flavors" and increases hydration (saline is commonly used in nasal/sinus/bronchial/lung treatment for soothing dryness) - and it also dilutes the VG; we think the PGA helps everything to steep/mix faster & more thoroughly - and that it may add a bit of Throat Hit. PGA can be irritant, so you might want to leave that out until you've got a mix/base you're happy with, and have used it in several recipes successfully.

We plug that into the calculators as "VG" and add flavors & nic as usual/typical.

Yes, the quality of VG matters. We once made over 5000mls of juice with a new gallon of VG, and the VG sucked the flavor out of all of it. Oh yeah, we now TEST our VG in a known recipe to make sure it's okay.

'Never used WZL VG ourselves, but we're never read any complaints.

+1

I've been using we2rcool's base and can highly recommend it. :thumb:

WL's VG was as good as any I've had, which isn't many but I thought it was good.

Where exactly do you get the saline solution? I've never read about it before.

How/Where do I get saline? Do I make it myself?

Thank you for the info. It looks very doable.

For premixed (definitely easiest), you want .9% sterile saline solution. It's sold in large bottles, typically for wound irrigation. For some reason, many people have trouble getting locally (at a pharmacy) without a prescription so that's not your best bet. (yes, someone, somewhere decided that sterile salt water required regulation...mostly a prescription is actually required; the pharmacies just don't want to jump-through-the-paperwork-hoops to sell it). We're able to get ours at a local mom & pop pharmacy. You don't want any "additions" - no preservatives, anti-microbials, or other chemicals (so typical eye-washes & contact lens products are out).

Here's a link posted by someone else that's the cheapest I've seen online: WP103522 Saline - Grainger Industrial Supply. There's plenty to be found on eBay and Amazon.

For those wanting to DIY saline solution, here's pure, USP sodium chloride tablets (fwiw, USP/pure is the only thing we'd consider using) Amazon.com: Sodium Chloride 1 Gm 100 Tablets: Health & Personal Care

It took us forEVER to locate USP sodium chloride/NaCl in a "buyable" pre-measured quantity (and from the reviews, we're not the only ones). We just ordered a bottle...how cool, "1 gram" tablets :) These (and the powder) can also be found on eBay. Most of the powders are ACS/Reagent grade - which is MORE pure than USP (but some have added iodine).

Btw, one 1 gram tablet + 110 mls distilled water = .9% solution

It's also used/sold for sinus irrigation - common brands: Cleanoz Amazon.com: Ubimed Cleanoz Preservative Free Saline Solution, (Pack of 20): Health & Personal Care and Nasadrops NeilMed Pharmaceuticals - NasaDrops
