I did not need to know this. I went back and totaled up all my e-cig related purchases, $958, since the middle of July '09.

That's actually a tad more than I would have spent on analogs in a year (I got them cheap off the 'net).

Oh well, it's only money.... <sigh>

The plus side though, I feel a whole lot better, I can breathe easier, I don't get winded as quickly, I sleep better, I don't have to go outside to "smoke", I've "met" some really nice people in the e-cig forums, and I have a new hobby.

First you buy an e-cig kit, then you pick up some carts or juice. After trying it out a few days and liking it, you decide to stock up on extra attys and batteries in case they ban them later. While at the website you notice a new sexy black or platinum model that you talk yourself into because "hey, I can always use it as a spare.. right?" More spare parts for your newest toy, then you find this place and start reading how everyone think their e-cig is the best thing since sliced bread and you start wondering what you're missing....

Sound familiar? :)

That's just how it goes. I kept a spreadsheet at first to track purchases. Also enabled me to rate the vendors and products for myself.

For fear of being thought an idiot, more than I may be already, I'm not sayin' what the total was when I stopped making entries in the thing. Suffice to say the poll parameters are WAY low 8-o

Now that I've settled on my PV's of choice I'll probably start realizing savings over cigarettes around about, ohh, mebbe the year 2012

    Somewhere between here and there
I have been vaping for a few months now and the hardest thing to me is to settle on a couple of liquid flavors. I did find one that I have stuck with but can't seem to find one or two others that I can stick with. I can't seem to vape the same flavor all day. If I could settle on 2-3 flavors, I could really start saving, I think. The other thing is to find the pv that is right for you. I am using a box mod right now that is great but would really like to try a high voltage model which would be fairly expensive. I think I might just make a 5v box mod to try first before I make another purchase. I think once the dust settles, I will start to experience some pretty good savings.

My husband and I spent about $350 on our initial 510 orders, outfitting ourselves with a total of 7 batteries, 7 attys, 20+ carts, 3 PCCs, 2 passthroughs, 2 USB chargers, and a dozen bottles of juice.

Then we wanted to try more juice. And then a different brand. Then another.

    Then I found purple 510s, hubbie wanted a 901, I wanted a blue 801.

    Oh, and more juices.

We've got to be around $700 right now. But we don't mind since we used to spend $150 a week on analogs. We've already skipped our bi-weekly $300 analog purchase. We'll break even soon enough.

I spent $1000 last month. But there is a learning curve with these things. I flooded many batteries and ruined countless atomizers. I had to sample a lot of juices to find the ones I liked. I had to get the 510, 901 manual, 901 automatic, 801 manual and automatic, 401, and lady pipe. How else was I going to find the best model for me? I have different colors of everything. I have PCCs and passthroughs. I bought kits for family and friends in the US and in other parts of the world. Okay, so I got a little carried away. It fits, though. I don't do anything half way. Also, I don't smoke analogs anymore. There are the health benefits and I don't stink anymore. This is a huge benefit for me. And I LOVE VAPING!

Seems a bit of a silly poll cos you can't deduce anything without knowing how long you have been vaping.

Also buying various devices to see which one you like best seems a bit odd but maybe some produce more vapour than others?

As far as I can see the only variable is the strength of the juice. Or it's a bit like asking if you prefer to drink through a big straw or a little straw (circumferance wise). It's would make little difference as how much you suck up depends upon how much you suck. Actualy I get complemented on that a lot, people keep coming up to me and saying "Hey man, you really suck!"

I guess battery size might be something you have a preference for though.

Perhaps it would be better to ask how much you spend a month on juice batteries and atomisers? Most other things are one off costs.
So it's like running a business, you have a fixed cost and then variable costs.

I hope this thread doesn't scare people away who are thinking of e-cigs to quit smoking and reduce their costs.

I've spent $200 for 2 PV starter kits, 8 bottles of liquid, a 510 PCC and an extra battery and atomizer. The two starter kits took up the bulk of the money I've spent.

I was spending about $200 per month on analogs after the huge tax increases last Spring. Looks like I'll break even by the end of the month and then I plan on budgeting $50-60 a month for supplies - for now. My ultimate goal is to cut way down on vaping and put all of that money spent on a habit into savings every month.

I figure I can reduce my costs to juice and atomisers if I vape by a USB passthrough most of the time. It's certainly going to be cheaper than normal cigatettes, I currently smoke 'smuggled' low tax cigarettes so I won't as much save much as if I paid the shop price, but even then I expect to halve my costs, however I have not switched over yet I only got my PV a few days ago and I still have a pile 2 months worth of tobacco to get through. Also I smoke the highest nicotine content tobacco and the stuf in the starter pack is not really strong enough for me, I think I will need 24mg and the highest I got it 16mg so for me it is like smoking a half strength cigarette. I have some stronger stuff ordered.
I think I wil have to smoke the tobacco I have unless I can find someone to buy it.

Hmmm if it were me I'd unload that 2 months worth of tobacco on a smoker friend with a "finders fee" and pay for the new vaping habit :)

When I really put thought into just how bad every single cigarette is for us, I'm incredibly grateful for the e-cigs and to be out of that death trap.

    Bristow, Ok.
When I first started I spent way too much money but I had to learn what would work for me. I consider it money invested in not smoking. Now I am using a pass through that I made and one of the big boy mods. I mix my own juice and am now saving money. Saving money will happen but not so much when you first start out.

    6 months of vaping :
I've combined totals from suppliers, the majority of my costs have been liquid and intially batteries.

    Initial 901 Kit from Ebay : £30
    Totally Wicked : £263
    Ecigs.co.uk :£179
    Heavens Gifts : £184
    EastMall : £134

    Total £760 / $1300~

I spent a fortune on TW liquid, although fortune is relative looking at some of the figures in this thread. The stuff was too bloody nice :).
I do however have a rather large stash (around 6 months supply) of liquid/atomizers/cartomizers/passthroughs/batteries and two magnum mods along with usable lungs.
