Again, I laugh at you're response to *just* $13.50. I remember in my early 20's always thinking "if ciggies get to $15 I'm totally quitting". Well $15 came and went and I just kept on smoking. For me the final straw was a pregnant wife and an absolute NEED to quit. I'm so thankful I discovered PV's as I honestly couldn't see myself having quit without them!
(To do a fair price comparison, petrol is currently around $1.40 litre here. I remember when I first got my license if it was 70c you'd try and wait out few more days to fill up for 60-something cents! Too many other evil substances prevent me from remembering what ciggies cost at that same time :/ )
Chicago--just under $10 a pack downtown and about the same in the nicer residential areas. In my neighborhood they are about $8. Or $6.50 at the corner store whose packs have no tax stamp. I don't ask questions, man.
$2.50 each (using twofor discounts) for Camel Menthol when I quit analogs and started vaping two years ago. Now I see them at $6 per!!
I figure my wife and I spend about $40 per month on vaping supplies for the both of us. That's just over a dollar per day for such an amazing habit. I came from 10 analogs per day while she was about 1-2 per day... so it would have costed us $100+ per month to keep our analog habit going.
In Idaho a pack of regular Marlboro (Name brand measuring stick) run $4.86 pp and in California I saw them at 5.95, but that was at the corner store in the burbs. I have to imagine that a pack of cigarettes from a store at #2 Embarcadero Center or a Safeway in S.F. runs around $8-9.00.
I am still mesmerized by any display of cigarettes at store checkouts, more out of disgust than anything else.
Texas has a pretty high luxury tax. Last cartons we purchased, at Costco, in July 2010, Capri 120 and American Spirit Organic, were a little < $65 a carton before sales tax of 8.25-8.5%. By the pack, now $8-10 plus sales tax. I was smoking 3 PAD, DH 2 PAD. We've spent a lot on super Mods especially REOs.
$5.69 with tax for Marlboro's in Kansas. I smoked Seneca's which I bought on the Indian Reservations north of Topeka. A carton was just a little under $20....that was 9 months ago so I don't know what they are now.
Since the dh still smokes and I pay for them I know that here Kool 100s are about $6 per. Cartons are $50 if I get them at the mom & pop place out of town.
In Oregon 7.84 for a pack of camel non filters. *yikes* a pad habit REALLY adds up! Plus they are harder to find than some - many smaller stores do not carry them.
