65 cents for a pack of Camel non-filters when I started. $1.50 for Camel wides when I switched to filters in '91. Wides $4.87 when I quit 3 weeks ago.
How much did a pack of cigarettes coast when you started and how much when you switched?

Cigarettes were 25 cents a pack when I started smoking. They were up to $6.87 a pack when I quit. When I was in the navy, we could get a carton of cigarettes for $2.00 when we were at sea. The most I've paid for a pack was $10.35 in Chicago.
When I started a pack cost $.15. When I quit they were $4.45 a pack. Of course, it was 60 years ago when I started. Just saying!!
1972 I was 15 and I was snagging them from my parents as many of us did though my dad being the observant Chicago policeman that he was found me out and though they thought I quit I started buying them since I started my first part time job at 16 - 30 cents a pack I think. When I started basic training in the USAF in 1976 they were 2.50 a carton in the exchange on base, 4.00 a carton off base. 2009 we went to RYO buying tubes and loose tobacco using either a hand machine or a lever operated machine. 3 months ago started eGo type e-cigs and slowly backed off from tobacco. Got an iTaste MVP 2.0 with iClear30 tank recently and haven't smoked since, not missing tobacco at all. Now at work I can smell how terrible cold tobacco smoke smells on a person when others that still smoke come in from the outdoor break area and it reinforces that I no longer am a tobacco user. Granted the company also wants e-cigs outside but no big deal, I'm used to being outdoors since about 1988 when the Air Force went to outdoor only smoke areas. Nice thing is I work on plastic injection molding machines and I can easily stealth a vape from time to time inside while I work if needed and no one will be the wiser since there is no tobacco odor in the air.
I'm 50, started at 16 and they were 45 cents. cigarette machines were in very public places where anyone could buy them. I was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease and was in the hospital for a week last month with severe pneumonia. I haven't had a real cigarette since the day I called 911. I thought I was having a heart attack and I was extremely short of breath. bought an ego-twist right after I got home and I haven't even wanted a real cig since that day.

35 cents a pack out of the machine at the gas station across the street from my school when I started in 1969... $5.50 when I quit about 5 years ago.
according to the google empire cigarettes were $1.79 when i started back in 1992 and about $5.81 (in Virginia) when i quit in 2013.

.25 a pack when I started and the last carton I bought was $97.00. What insanity....almost $400 a month. SMH

I was paying $3 a pack for generics when I quit a year ago and THAT was too much. I once paid nearly $6 in Ohio, after trying not to smoke for 3 days since I didn't want to pay that. I made that pack last another 3 days until I was in Kentucky on the way home to Georgia even though I was a pack a day smoker.
I can't see how some of you tolerated those prices. Oh well, vaping is less than 10% of that (after prorating hardware expected life and DIY costs so it might be as low as 3% if I'm luck on hardware).

I think I paid my friend 4.25 in 97 to buy me my first pack and when I quit 4 yrs ago I paid up to 10 bucks depending on what store I had to go to. Crazy to think I spent that much a day for smokes cause I never bought cartons couldn't save the money up long enough to get one.
Marlboro Reds were 50 cents a pack when I started smoking in 1974. Went through various brands over the years - last brand smoked was Marlboro Lights 100's at $12.50 a pack! At 2 pad, that's $9000 a year for cancer sticks. Unreal. I could buy a Provari or a couple of other apvs each month and still save money vaping

Oh boy that's a great question. I bought 20 Silk Cut when I was 11 years old for 50p (maybe 80 cents). When I stopped UK cigs were about £8 a pack (maybe $13).
About $15 a pouch when I first started and now the same pouch is $42. Good thing I no longer spend money on the filth.
