Most ppl vape around 12mg not sure why ppl think its higher and wish they would stop giving old advice. The higher nic level were back when devices didn't vape nearly aswell or for cigalikes since they don't vape well. If you start out with ego batteries and clearos 12mg is good for a pad or less smokers, cartos you could possibly up the nic a bit. Move upto a genesis and you would go even lower, it really depends on 2 factors your device and how much you smoked.

Check the polls on this and other vaping sites and you will see that the average is 16mg - 24mg. Your "most people" is based on what? - what you vape and think everyone else should be the same? How about not judging what others find they either need or enjoy to keep them off of analogs. Njoy just came out with a 45mg nic strength disposable.

Since you have such a vast amount of vaping experience, all of 5 months, I can't determine what makes you an expert on what nic level is "appropriate" and what level no one should use. And I didn't read the "nic police rule" where you should not use or need higher than 12mg nic strength if you were a PAD smoker. I wonder why my supplier friends tell me they sell more 24mg nicotine strength eliquid than any other level.

I smoked about 12 cigarettes a day when I started vaping and I started with 6mg. It's been a little over 2 months and I'm still using the 6mg. I've thought about cutting it down to 3mg by mixing some 0 nic in. I honestly don't know how you hacked that 36mg!! Different strokes for different folks I guess:). Regardless congrats on quitting cigs.

OK so when you started vaping these were the guidelines for nic levels, devices got allot better since way back then yet PPI still recommend the higher nic levels. Going back to the old devices you should of been using 50+mg liquid. You can easily get used to the higher nic level but the devices give a much better vape then back then so you really don't need the extra nic some recommend. The older shops just stuck with the old recommendations sometimes since they just kept vaping the higher nic themselves not realizing they were getting much more nic into themselves over the years with the better devices.

Local shops here know better thankfully. You have vaped a long time and you have used the same nic suggestions all those years I assume? Devices are allot better now and deliver more nic than back then. I don't feel like arguing the fact since I know its the same nic level advice you knew from years ago you are still thinking is accurate.

Ppl will vape the level they want but the nic level for the better devices don't need to be as high to satisfy and give enough nic to not feel like smoking as it was years ago. Old advice and old polls due to old advice needs an update. Its 2013 not 2009 devices get better but advice stays outdated at times.

Anyways sorry to get off topic, if the nic level works for you without having side effects then its up to you to keep that level or drop lower. If you like to vape allot a lower nic level would be adequate. I like switching flavors so end up chain vaping allot.

I know 2 pad smokers who quit on 18mg easily and didn't think he would ever quit, the lower levels do work well on the newer devices. If ppl keep saying you need the higher levels it works like a placebo.

People are as unique as fingerprints. One size fits all has no application in the ecig world imho.

Your body tells you what is right. Loud and clear in most cases.

Simple differences in vape style and equipment = big differences in what is right and wrong for each person.

It's pretty dang easy to feel when you have too much or too little nic. Everything in between is totally fine. To each their own.

Coming from a few cigs a day at most I don't get a buzz off anything less than 18mg 100% PG, which I'm currently putting down to my PV being a 'cigalike' 808. May want to try 100% PG juices, I find they seem to hit a lot harder for the amount of nicotine in them, if you're using 36mg 50/50 juice it may be worthwhile to cut it down with 100% PG in 0mg nicotine, try 75/25 or even lower VG concentration and see where that puts you as far as a satisfied hit without the strong nicotine taste.

I have 36 mg 80/20 and the hit is too harsh for me. I am going to order 0 mg 20/80 in the same flavors to mix in.

I read that a cigarette has about 9mg of nicotine in it. If that is true I was smoking about 54-72 mg a day. With the 36 mg and vaping 1.5 ml that is about 54 mg per day. So from my calculations it is about the same (please correct me if I am wrong!!) but I do want to be lower. I really am enjoying the vaping.

Wow! Yes! 36mg is quite a bit! I smoked a carton of Newport's a week. I started & still vape mostly at 18 with a little 24 in the beginning to help me with the really bad cravings. I agree with a previous post. I'd cut it with some 0 nic juice that's they same flavor if you're able too.

I'm at 36 and about 6ml per day for the past month or so. I'm pretty sure it's too much. I haven't gotten sick but I do have the crazy dreams and I've been REALLY dead tired in the morning. I've also been sleeping a lot more and will wake up with dry eyes. My next bottle I will definitely be cutting back to see if it makes a difference. I was at 2 packs a day btw.

Some ppl use a lower nic in the evenings that may help with the dreams and sleep. If you decide to drop the nic level altogether it might be best to do it in small steps since your body is probably used to getting the higher nic by now and don't want you to feel like having a smoke by dropping it to fast.

My friend is the one who got me to start vaping. She told me to order 36ml nicotine juice. I now wish I didn't but don't want to waste that money spent. I smoked 6 to 8 cigarettes a day. I started vaping Wednesday night and on average I have vaped about 1.5 ml each day. I have not felt dizzy or sick to my stomach but I have had some very vivid dreams. I kind of like that a lot though :) should I buy some non nicotine juice to cut in?

how much juice do you usually go through each day? Am I overdoing it?

oh lordy.

I just started a friend vaping who smoked about what you do. She started with 6mg. You should certainly not be doing more than 10mg!

quick fix, yes, non nicotine juice to cut, or just buy some VG at walmart or CVS and cut it....but that will reduce the flavor quite a bit.

Certainly better than nicotine poisoning though!

As a half-a-pack-a-day smoker, I started off with 12mg/mL. That has been plenty to get rid of all my cravings. I am using about 1.5mL per day, giving me a total of 18mg of nicotine. Studies of toxicity show that 60mg of nicotine in a short period of time can lead to poisoning in an average person.

You want to use the lowest amount that will prevent you from smoking analogs. At least for me, the point of e-cigs is not to become addicted to vaping but to quit smoking.

I would drop down to 12 at the most and up the dosage if you find yourself taking more than 20 or so puffs in an hour.

One, the polls I am referring to are relatively current.

Two, the model PV one uses has little or no impact on how much nicotine gets into your system. The improvements in PV's is about consistency and battery life. When was the last time any PV manufacturer/retailer exclaimed their PV's deliver more nic per ml into your system, lol???

Three, my general nicotine recommendations are based on reading hundreds of thousands of posts on the subject, talking personally with hundreds of vapers and my own personal experience. I'm pretty sure I have a significantly greater wealth of information than you do.

Fourth, everyone is different. There are half a pack a day vapers who use 24+mg nic strength and one and half a pack a day vapers who use 16mg. You telling a new vaper that they should not need more than 12mg nic strength is very possibly pushing that new vaper towards failure. That is NOT what we are about here on ECF. Your comments easily provide the suggestion that if you use/need more than 12mg nic strength, then something is wrong with you.

Fifth, nic strength is not just about the desire/need for nicotine due to it's addictive nature. Nicotine provides approximately 90% of the throat hit (TH) in vaping. That is actually more of a "need" for many vapers than the chemical aspect of nicotine based on the thousands of posts I have read and vapers I have talked to. The difference in TH between 18 - 24 mg nic eliquid and 6 - 12 is significant. And there is NO additive that duplicates the TH from nicotine. If there was, it would be fying off the shelf and everyone would know about it.

I tell new vapers to start out in the 18mg - 24mg level and adjust up or down based on what their body is telling them. It is easy to reduce the nic level of the eliquid the new person bought. It is impossible to make eliquid stronger without making another purchase.

So with your vast 5 months of experience, you telling new vapers they should not "need" more than 12mg nicotine strength eliquid, which implies there is something wrong with them if they do, is not helpful for those trying desperately to transition to vaping.

Everybody is different and you seem to have a unusual resistance to nicotine. Nicotine is a drug and a poison so less you use better for you in the long run. New vapers should not start at 36 mg , they should start at the lowest concentration and work their way up or down depending on cravings. Most of the people here are trying to shake the monkey not to swap it for a gorilla. Most of the vendors don't even sell 36 mg and that is wise on their side because if something happens with a vaper will happen at the high concentration not at 6-12 mg. IMHO advocating for new vapers to start at 36 is irresponsible at the best as they don't know how their body will actually take the effects of nicotine.

Fifth, nic strength is not just about the desire/need for nicotine due to it's addictive nature. Nicotine provides approximately 90% of the throat hit (TH) in vaping. Wrong ! TH is a combination of Nicotine burn , PG irritation and flavour irritation on your lungs. Some flavours contain Capsaicin to increase the Th without upping the nicotine .

I tell new vapers to start out in the 18mg - 24mg level and adjust up or down based on what their body is telling them. It is easy to reduce the nic level of the e-liquid the new person bought. It is impossible to make e-liquid stronger without making another purchase.

I think you should re-consider your ranges , starting that high is of no value whatsoever and can be harmful with some people or just put them off because they won't enjoy TH , I am not a TH junky more a flavour and habit addict.

So with your vast 5 months of experience, you telling new vapers they should not "need" more than 12mg nicotine strength e-liquid, which implies there is something wrong with them if they do, is not helpful for those trying desperately to transition to vaping.

Some people are fast learners , some are not , I met vapers with 1-2 years of "experience" , store owners nevertheless, who had nothing to offer in terms of guidance , I am not referring to you but 5 months can be a long time for some people specially if they spent a lot of time researching and learning and have a good understanding of what's actually going on so don't discard an opinion based solely on length of vaping time.

I agree. Starting at the upper range of nicotine seems a bit dangerous.
Keep in mind that people starting out on vaping are going to be bringing over their habit from smoking where there is a self regulating component to it.
One does not chain smoke wherever and whenever they want these days. Modern smoking laws have changed that habit so that, at work, people go from smoking break to smoking break. At home, they stop what they are doing and step outside.
With vaping, our nicotine delivery is much more even as we tend to vape in more places and more freely then we tended to smoke.
Overall, the habit is very different but a new vaper may bring with them, the tendency to vape for a certain period of time, as if on a smoke break, but do that much more often because they can.
Most people, who are looking at vaping ask themselves what nicotine level is equivalent to this brand or that.
I think the more important measurement should be the total nicotine consumed over a longer period then one cigarette.
The question should be: How much nicotine am I consuming if I smoked X number of this brand of cigarettes per day vs X number of ml of this e-liquid at X mg strength.
The goal would be to match the total nicotine intake per day as closely as possible and then adjust up or down as required.
