A slightly bigger box was needed to hold the pump bottle and the pump bottle fits perfectly in the 2AA box along with the atty and push button switch.

I started one based on some of the earlier posts in the thread. Got the bottle and feed and empty cart all set up, was "almost there" but it was so tight, I foolishly decided to "trim" the switch a bit. :(

I'd be REALLY curious to see what "outside" box you wound up using, the one I had was just too tight.

Has anyone in Canada managed to locate a "Size M Coaxial DC Power Plug" - it seems that The Source (Radio Shack in Canada :) ) doesn't stock these.

The whole idea (to me, anyway) is to use readily available parts. If you can't get those from RS, you *could* order the connectors. I know, I know, it's cheating, but it sounds like the connector is all you need. And the connector is the last thing I'd think would fail on you.

Then again, you could order a few of those connectors from RS in the US (maybe?), that way, you'd have a bunch of spares, and, as infectious as the "puck concept" is, you're probably gonna need a few :)

Out of curiosity... would anyone be willing to build one of these for me and how much would they charge (with shipping to WI)? I'm pretty horrible with electronics and botched this build once before... pretty sure it was the messy solder job on the atty connector causing it to short.

PM me if anyone's willing with price, then I'll decide if I want to try again lol.

Funny you mention it... I'm in the process of stripping the 1st one out to do exactly that! LMAO

Though I'm pretty sure the connector and led are fried. Oh well... guess I'll convert it to a 4AA unit since I have to get more parts anyway. The internals should still be the same, correct?

If they don't carry that jack, it will take a bit more work but you can also use the led holders they sell. LED Holder. You will have remove the rubber insert from the back by pulling it out and then file down the back side until you get close to the threads. You will also mave to make a center post with a small brass tube or large gauge wire. Use epoxy to hold the center conductor (tube or wire) in place in the center of the led holder.

The threads of this led holder are the same size a 901 atty uses (same as the M coaxial jack). It's just a bit more work to make the connector.

Ignore my last post... My second attempt today was successful!

See here for pics and such.

Fantastic Job X :) Hope you love the feeling you got when you built your own PV and hit that switch for the first time. There's nothing like that feeling to build something it is works :) Although the Puck is not the prettiest mod, it is one of the most versatile and you will undoubtly be dreaming up new ways to fit parts, move the push button to different places, etc and you can tell everyone, I built this myself with pride :)

Congratulations X :)

Well since I have not had time to do a formal tutorial on what I call the Puck Juicer and have been promising to do one, I figure I'd at least post some pics of the protoype I've been using for the past few months. This should help most of you build one after seeing the pics. I promise, a tutorial will be coming...

Here are the pics of my protoype that has been working like a champ since the day I first built it.

Yes, there is a meter hanging off of it but that is just for testing and keeping a handle on my volts :)

The box where the juice pump bottle, atty and swtich are is a 2AA box from radio shack. The battery box is still the good ole 4 AAA box. Still using 4 AAA NiMH batteries and mostly the same parts as the roiginal Puck except for the push button switch, which is a smaller push button switch radio shack sells (and no it doesn't burn out).

The clear line is RC Car fuel line. Buy some of that from a hobby shop and they will also have brass tubing to fit it that I used coming out of the pump bottle.

Drilling and putting the brass tube into the pump bottle top of the tricky part. You must start with a very small drill bit and only drill into the very center of the cap. You go too far and you put a hole into the other side of the center and it will leak. Use a slightly larger size drill bit after that about the size of your brass tube. Rough up the brass tube with a dremel and then epoxy it into the pump bottle cap. Once the epoxy sets, you're good to go.

Remove the filling from a cart and drill a hole in into the juice resevoir slightly smaller than your fuel line tubing. Insert the fuel line tubing into the hole you drilled and then put the filler back in.

That's about all I have time for right now but it may be enough to get some of you started.

If you are wondering what the little shiney round disc is on the cover, it's a small powerful magnet. I always use magnets to hold covers in place where I can so the cover is able to be popped off quickly.

When you put the cover on, the magnet is attracted to the metal screw that was the original screw that helf the cover on. The cover stays on pretty secure with the magnet.

You can even do this when building a normal puck.

I want to make the Puck that you show on the first page and on your website, but I don't want to buy a drill. Can I bore the holes with my Swiss Army Knife reamer?

Or would it be too imprecise? Is the drill absolutely necessary? Also can I use a cheap 30 watt soldering iron like this one?

5-Piece Basic Soldering Set - RadioShack.com

Also Radio Shack doesn't carry 500 ohm resistors at the moment. Can I use a resistor that has slightly more or less ohms?

You can do it but as Stosh mentioned, it makes it a bit harder to get a good hole. If you take your time though, you can carve out a nice hole. I've done it before with a knife myself trying to make odd sized holes during experimentation of other mods I've been working on in the past. You just have to be careful becuase the place where the atty hole goes is real close to one of the cover slots and you want to try and avoid breaking the cover slot if possible. If you do break the cover slot, it will still work. you just might have a small issue with the cover staying on tightly.

A good t-handle reamer would be your best friend when doing mods so I would pick one up if I was you maybe later.

Also, a 470 ohm resistor works fine. I used a 500 ohm since they came with a bunch of LEDs I ordered a while back. It's not critical to have the exact 500 ohms.

A Dremel tool works fine - that's what I used - got one for Christmas awhile back...
Also, - I know this will probably sound stoopit - but how does the juicer Puck work? Do you squeeze the bottle, or what makes the juice go upwards from the bottle to the atty?
I got somebody wants one of these, but I'm trying to figure this out - sorry, I have done 3 Pucks and I love them - they work great, but this juicer Puck is a new animal for me.
Thanks, all.

The Puck Juicer uses a very small perfume spray bottle. To recharge your cartridge, you just give the button one or two pumps and your cart is full again. The small perfume bottle holds about 4 ml of juice. I have a small metal tube glued into the nozzle hole where the spray would normally spray out of. I enlarged the hole a bit with a small drill bit and glued the metal tube into it. After the epoxy sets up, I attached a small RC car fuel line to the metal tube. The other end of the fuel line goes into a small hole drilled into the side of the cart where the juice resevoir is. I leave the filler in the cart.

When you pump the bottle one or two times, the cart is magically refilled just like you dropped a bunch of drops into it. It's completely hands off juice for about a day or so until you have to fill the bottle. To fill the bottle, just remove the cover, unscrew the bottle from it's top, fill it and put it back. Takes less than a minute to refill.

There have been others on this site using the same small perfume bottle so I didn't invent that but I do have a unique way of using the metal tube in the spray nozzle hole :)

So to bascially answer what you asked, just pump the top of the bottle once or twice.
