Okay, so I have noticed that I have a few more bone and joint pains than normal and at times a bit more painful feeling- Also, seem to be getting fatigued more often-

What can anyone suggest to help "increase" lactic acid- (only thing I can think that would be making me feel this way- the lactic acid breakdown that comes w/ PG)
OR... suppose it could be something else?
I have little muscle and flexibility left from my younger years but don't want it to all turn to mush- Should I start working out again (maybe on a small scale) w/ my husband or what? Already do vitamins... anything else?

I could be wrong, but I think you've got it backwards... my understanding is that PG produces lactic acid, which can cause cramping and muscle soreness. I think you want to be looking for a way to reduce it... perhaps by increasing Potassium intake. Bananas are good.

You got it right. I found that drinking Gatorade really helped in the beginning and have just kept doing. It ended up helping me with the charley horse I always got every night in my bad leg. Just another hidden benefit found and attributed to vaping.

Lactic acid is a natural byproduct of exercise... your muscles produce it. That's why people tend to cramp when involved in strenuous activity. I'm not sure what the relationship between Potassium and Lactic Acid is, but I know bananas are handed to runners at the end of races. I've heard that natural Potassium (ie bananas) is better than supplements, but I take a supplement every day anyway. My legs cramp a lot at night (even before vaping) so my doctor recommended it.

I can't keep bananas in the house. They all get eaten before I can even get to them, lol Everyone here loves them.

I am like you, I get cramps so bad in my right leg, the one that was injured in the accident, and if I don't get potassium in some way every day I really know it at night. I take so many pills now that I hate to add another one so I just keep Gatorade in the fridge. No one here likes it but me so at least I can get my potassium that way. As far as I know, I haven't had a cramp from vaping. My friend that told me about vaping warned me about it so I was prepared.

When I start getting the PG aches, I drink 3 glasses of room temp water as fast as I can and it goes away faster than it came! With each glass, you can feel the water working-crazy huh?!?! I hope this works for you-someone gave me the advice and it has worked like majic every time for me---seems it doesnt happen as ofeten anymore but I did also increase my water intake as well. :)

If you've ever gotten a massage, you'll remember the masseuse telling you "drink lots of water!" That's to wash out the excess lactic acid. As mentioned above, potassium, and magnesium. Doesn't have to be magnesium citrate, can be magnesium malate or mag chloride too. I use a combo of mag malate and mag chloride with 10mg of manganese thrown in - learned that with fibromyalgia.

The most important thing is to drink lots and lots of water and stay very hydrated, especially if you're using PG only. I use over 50% VG now and don't have so many muscle aches.

Thx- All very helpful! I will get an intake of Gatorade- We keep this stuff in the house due to kids in sports very heavy! Also, bananas- and yeah, w/ the kids- they don't seem to last anytime at all- But I do buy about 8 lbs at a time- (We have 5 kids) - I will have to buy them and then make a batch of banana pudding while they are at school and then tell them that banana splits for dessert if they leave the bananas alone- LOL
I will look into magnesium as well! Thx- This will definitely help!

Hooray, somewhere my Exercise Science degree will come in handy!

More lactic acid will = more soreness. I would suggest stretching/light cardiovascular exercise if you are currently sedentary.

eat more fish, and/or take omega 3-6-9 tablets (not omega 3.. omega 3, 6 AND 9..)

also - bananas are good for getting rid of lactic acid buildup!

I cannot make you an exercise perscription without (at least brief) medical history, current physical fitness level and age, but i can say my suggestions will help a little.

if you can, go for a walk in the morning (and if possible) afternoon also. marathon runners, long distance hikers, etc. all go for a light jog the next morning to prevent excessive lactic acid build-up after a marathon or long hike.

on magnesium - it will not be that helpful. in 99% of cases you should avoid supplementation until you have already done everything else (such as increased physical activity and diet) the supplement industry is just like the tobacco industry - in it for the money, not for you. don't take anything you cant get for much cheaper from food.

also - don't drink gatoraid unless you're working out intensely, its pure sugar.. you will gain weight if you suddenly start drinking it.

Hey Paul,

& Thx!
I don't worry about gaining weight- I weigh less now than I did in high school and this is 5 kids later...
I know, gatorade is not really good for you per se... But, since it is here... I am not a big water drinker- It has to bebottled and only certain brands willI drink and then it is a task to get it all in- However, I have made a concentrated effort to drink a couple bottles since starting the vaping... (I had been trying to make a concentrated effort for some time) It goes along w/ weight gain too- which I am always trying and find it so very frustrating that everything you find is for diets and losing weight... I have to go to health stores... GNC & the like- to get weight gain powder which absolutely sucks! But I try to get an intake as often as I can (I have fallen off actually lately) But, I drink Ensure Plus- at least 2 a day... I can maintain my weight but it is so very hard to gain and keep it... I am about 117 lbs and 5' 81/2" ... We just recently got the Wii Fit and so I have been having fun with that with my daughter...
Nothing like the active spirit I was in HS though- I was on Track, basketball and lifted weights (More for tone off season but all for power during track season)- I haven't lifted a weight... other than groceries and the like, since I was about 22 yrs old. (let's just say... I have a son who is now 18..., he was 1yr old when I was 22)
So... I would love any input...
I know what I am supposed to do... It is just doing it- & I am leary of many exercise programs since I feel it will cause me to lose weight...
Oh! & I eat like a horse- believe it or not... & I am just getting back to a regular eating schedule- about 2 mos ago, honestly I ate whenever but when I did eat, I ate til I was miserabley full- (didn't know how long it would be til I ate again... had to eat so I could store it- LOL) Literally, I just got back to a stay at home status right now- It's been great and strange to not have a 12 plus hour work day, 6 days a week, with a one hour commute one way... Done with it though- I hope to get healthier and the e-cig is going to be a big part of it!

Yeah, I had it backwards up there^ But I knew something about lactic acid and my muscles and such not needing all that... especially now- (I am not as active_ I guess I need to set myself up slowly to start back with a regimen... I appreciate the small response as I did get- It has opened my eyes and my mind- Thx again!

A common misconception for "healthy" is body weight, your body type is well.. skinny (to avoid big complex sciency words :D) avoid "weight gainers" and eat more wholesome foods.

For instance, eat whole wheat instead of white bread, and if you like them... wail on sweet potatoes. I cant stress how good sweet potatoes are for gaining weight. eat fats. low fat diets are for people who want to be 100 lbs and have terrible kidney function. heh..

If you like almonds, eat them constantly. peanuts are also good.. and peanut butter (natural.. not jiffy. jiffy and the like have sugar in them. if the ingredients have anything other than "Peanuts, salt" don't buy it.) is one of the most calorie-dense foods that is healthy for you. use olive oil on salads or something (dont cook olive oil ever.) for good fats also.

any questions, post em here :p

also - nicotine is a stimulant, like caffeine.. and will cause thermogenic effects on the body, and will increase your ability to burn fat (this is how most diet pills work) so if you lessen your nic intake, you should see a bit of a weight gain (this is why a lot of people gain weight after stopping cigs, not cause they eat more.. most people don't realize this)

Paul,

Thx so much! I do eat good- LOVE sweet potatoes and eat them even as a snack when I watch late night tv- (I do douse them w/ butter & brown sugar, but really just enough- not so it tastes like a casserole at Thanksgiving... LOL
I also make sweet potato bread... again it does have sugar added but is sooo good-

I am not a big sweets person as in candy and store bought cakes but I love toaster streudel, apple turnovers, those type things...
If I bake it I usually eat it- (unless it is cakes- I only like cake w/o icing so I usually make sweet breads and get my fill that way- Oh or muffins...
I use Fiber Sure in a lot of things as well as flax and wheat germ when I can use so the kids can't tell- ... I even add Fiber Sure to my coffee, it is tasteless and smooth so you can't tell a difference-
I love my chicken salad and my Chicken Salads... I use dressing though.. and bacon and cheese and eggs... lol etc- hey it is good for me and I try to get a lot of calorie intake so I can hope to keep something! Yes, I do need to exercise-(haven't in years) but I am an active parent- LOL
No, really, I need a stretching and agility type program to help me out- I have been full speed ahead w/ work for so long- Exercise gotout of my system and I don't even stretch anymore like I should-
I don't snack much and when I do it is usually leftover type foods from previous meals- OR a bowl of spinach (seasoned & butter, vinegar and salt)... sweet potatoes (butter & brown sugar)... artichoke spinach dip (I know an absolute dieters nightmare but I make it homemade and I use fresh spinach and jarred (no marinade) artichokes)- I also make a mean chili cheese dip...
I like to eat "regular" foods- I do eat more wheat or multi grain bread because they have more flavor-

BUT... & you hit the nail on the head I guess- I am not a big water drinker and I am a HUGE soda and tea drinker and then of course.. nicotine... which I am working on reducing
As far as water- I drink Vitamin water- not so much for the "vitamins" but so I can get water intake which the doctor has told me if I can drink it- do that rather than none at all- & I try to work in 2 regular bottles of water a day- but I still gravitate toward tea and soda & I have morning coffee (about 4-5 cups)
Wow! I don't mean to solicit for free advice- LOL
It is so frustrating to see a doctor and go over this and then just be told and scolded- and no actual regimen or constant contact about what am I following... I don't know any other way to get weight on and keep it but to keep eating like I have.. and better- My biggest thing is getting back to a regular eating schedule (which I can do now since quitting almost 2 mos ago)- It is making a difference as I am not as tired all the time like I used to be-
Wow, I am so sry to start rambling like this- as you said, you can't give good advice w/o a history- LOL
This is just the tip of the iceberg! I appreciate the advice- I am going to make a conscious effort to get myself back on track- .. and that is another thing, all these years later- It is hard to start back - it hurts and I don't see instant results so I get frustrated... I am an instant gratification person... LOL But, I am going to keep track of this- as I journal things about the vaping experience I am also making notes as to what we ate, when, when we vaped, activities we did and how long we could sustain, etc- I am going to keep up with that because I think it will help the overall- Am I correct?
Thx again- I will stop here or I may have to sign a Privacy Act Agreement- LOL

I've read that hops is good for removing lactic acid, and I"m not even going to research that. I'm taking it as gospel and properly treating any pending buildup.

Any benefits from hops would be offset by the increase in activity in the Biceps brachii and Flexor carpi radialias, thus resulting in increased lactic acid production. Happily, enough repetition will ensure that the results of the fermentation process will make the effects of lactic acid completely unnoticeable.

Paul,

I used to do exercises to build up lactic acid so that my body could become more adept at removing it (I was training for mountain biking). Would vaping coupled with exercise help with this? Also, could I hit you up for some training ideas for competing in my first ever triathlon next year? I'm only now getting back into running, but I am still biking. The swimming portion will be the hardest. Right now, I'm just shooting for finishing middle of the pack for my age range.

Thanks!

I was under the impression that tha absolute quickest way to lick lactic acid problems was to switch to VG, which did not create this byproduct.

VIP, you took the words right out of my mouth...er, fingers. Another reason to enjoy the clean and refreshing flavor and sensation of VG-only juices. I do not experience much of any pains like this from vaping.

5 minute horse stance? Now THAT's another question.
