To the 50 unknown WINNERS...
I accept your apologyMy sincere apologies, Duck Lady. Wifey, who apparently does know you, explained the above to me, which was not at all apparent in your post that I responded to, and I obviously do not visit the threads where you have talked about your long-term relationship. Did that make sense? My instant reaction was that some man and woman were getting married and the bride (you) was planning to get back on the computer afterward and... well, I am very old fashioned, and it never even occurred to me that this was already a long-term thing and that you might merely be legalizing what you had already committed to 10 years ago. I put my spouse as Number One in all things, even today, even though we have been together like almost forever and I imagined what I would feel like the day we got married, as if she had said, "Hold that thought, lover boy, while I go play on the forum." I would have said, "Why did you marry me if you want to spend all your time with them?" It was an old fashioned old man's instant knee-jerk reaction. Now that I know the circumstances, I am very sorry for my inappropriate response.
It's been a couple years, but they did have 4. That one was closed, two other small ones were merged into a bigger, newer one. As far as I knew, they still had 2...Well, last spring when we drove up there to pick up a few, the city had one shelter that I was aware of, North Richland Hills Animal Shelter. If there were more city of NRH shelters, I wasn't aware of them.
Did they ever say if people who only put in a first name are still eligible? I already won so it doesn't impact me but I have to assume others made the same mistake. After 20 years making software I can't imagine I'm the least tech savvy person here, though I guess I could be one of the worst at reading rules.
That's pretty much how it is here,or pretty similar anyway. They won't adopt them out,but the last few years they have started letting a few rescue groups take some of them as long as they don't show any type of aggression while at the shelter,so at least they have gotten a bit better. It's like that in Detroit. They have an outstanding rule that any pit bull that gets put into the shelter is put to sleep. While it's not illegal to own a pit bull in the city, the shelter is not allowed to adopt any out.
That is a great picture! So funny! That's where all my current dogs came from. Got my pit after the cops were going to have them all put down, mother and puppies. A city that outlawed pitbulls... Walked in to the animal shelter and said no. A guy said you can't have her, I said "Mr Ruger says otherwise" and pulled the hammer back. She is mine now. The heeler was torn up and left to die, so I got her and took her to the vet.
My pit and my fat cat.
Vicious killers my posterior...
That wasn't a requirement to post here or to participate in the quick draws, but the original entry does ask for their first and last name.I've read a lot of the almost 400 pages in this thread, but never saw anything about us posting our real names to the thread as a requirement - perhaps that's why I haven't seen my name yet - hahaha - whatever turns out to be the truth is ok by me - I'm having fun "out of the heat" that is outside our rig. lol
No, you don't have to post your real name. Innokin is just posting the first name and the first few letters of the last name. Those are how they got the entries when you signed up for the original contest.I've read a lot of the almost 400 pages in this thread, but never saw anything about us posting our real names to the thread as a requirement - perhaps that's why I haven't seen my name yet - hahaha - whatever turns out to be the truth is ok by me - I'm having fun "out of the heat" that is outside our rig. lol
I am back home from our short but sweet wedding at the court house. The judge did such a good job. We do not have a honeymoon planned yet, but we had a great day together today, and are now playing a game togetherI know ....what nerds! Lol We have been together so long, and we have felt married for a while now. I appreciate everyone's thoughtful comments
We had a wonderful day together!
The City of North Richland Hills actually has a APBT rescue group, and I know of someone who has also pulled two from that shelter. I'm not sure what shelter @SomeTexan was referring to, but even us in rescue were not allowed in the back or anywhere near the euthanasia room. As a former shelter volunteer/employee, I can honestly say that I have never encountered a single person who enjoyed working in that room, or witnessed one act of anmal abuse. And if anyone had come in waving a gun in our faces, there would have been charges pressed. Even in TX, that is not legal, and not the standard way civilized society behaves. That's pretty much how it is here,or pretty similar anyway. They won't adopt them out,but the last few years they have started letting a few rescue groups take some of them as long as they don't show any type of aggression while at the shelter,so at least they have gotten a bit better.
Still Hoping HereCongrats to the 50 winners!!! Only one ECF member so far has said they were on the list. I hope that more will come forward!
