That's why one of these days I'm going to get a .338 Lapua.... purpose build sniper rifle would make an excellent deer rifle.... accurate to somewhere around a mile... I don't care how good their noses are, they'd NEVER know I was there! ;)

300 mag!! Nuff said!

338 lapua would be sweet though!

Here is a pic from opening day of bow season this year. I'm obviously not 40 ft up here. That's hard to do with a bow!
I've got my vape in one hand and my phone in the other as I snap this photo. This little 4 pointer isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Can you spot him? Look about half way between my arrow and the bow stabilizer. left of the big tree.

Do you think that would take away the fun though? I like to use a rifle when I'm dove hunting but a bow when I deer hunt. I guess I would just have to try it!

It might, but I don't hunt for the fun or sport of it... I hunt for meat. I was raised to not "trophy hunt". Head shots only unless it's unavoidable... damages less meat, and less chance of losing a kill because it ran off into the woods and you can't find it...

I think I see him... pic doesn't blow up very big, so it's kinda hard to spot....
300 mag is a nice gun... I usually use a 30/06... cuz that's what I grew up with... well that and 30/30 or .35 Marlin for brush hunting...

Yeah I don't either. Ranch life and all that. However I kind of feel like I accomplished more with my bow than I would with a gun. Maybe it's the survival skills that my dad drilled into my head.

I think we highjacked a feed guys.

I like to hunt high! Really high sometimes - like 40-45 feet up so I rarely get detected, at least not when I'm in the stand but walking to and from the stand is what I worry about. I can't tell you how many times I've had to put a cigarette out so I could pick the gun up.

Isn't aiming a problem?

Oh, don't get me wrong. I absolutely understand what you mean! It's like squirrel hunting with a .22 instead of a shotgun... I just never did get into bow hunting. Did learn muzzleloaders though... that was quite satisfying... besides, how else are you going to shoot a .58 caliber maxi ball? ;)

yeah it's a little hard to see him. He's about 30 yrds straight in front of the stabilizer. I was trying not to spook him so I didn't zoom in.

I use a 300 mag and a 25/06. It's a 30/06 case with a 6mm lead. SUPER FAST and accurate just not great for heavy brush.

Yep, that's about where I was looking...
I'm familiar with the 25/06... we even did our own loads and put 9mm rounds in the .35 cal Marlin casings for that same purpose... lighter round, but much higer velocity... flattest trajectory of anything I've ever shot...

You get used to it with practice... but, shooting at a downward angle is a bit different than shooting from the ground though, yes.

Depends on what you're hunting with. A bow...yeah it would be. However with a rifle, especially one with a scope, not a problem.
