Dang it! My whole county is on the immediate East side of the track as of early afternoon. We were on the west side last night, at least it was alittle better! No danger of high water where I am, and the house was built on top of 48 dump truck loads of dirt, which takes care of more than enough rain. We watched actual waves moving across the front 2 acres when Charley came. Sometimes a real strong gust would come and blow the water completely off an area of it, and you could see the grass and dirt underneath for a second or 2. Was very odd!

Thanks for putting this together.

Sitting here in my front room watching the guy across the street board up his house.

And Steve over there talking to him...

Maybe Jimmy will talk some sense into him - not that we would even be able to get any plywood at this point in time, much less have the oomph to do it from scratch in 1 day !
We live in a live oak forest and these trees lose small limbs at the blink of an eye. Those limbs traveling at cat 1 speeds would likely break windows so we boarded ours. Better safe than sorry.

well the junk drawer will gain value,, when you prepare to file your insurance claim on your contents. you take a lot of photos (now too)... and i do mean everything.
Yup. Everyone should always have a stack of photos of the entire house. Take pics from at least two opposite sides of each room. Don't forget all drawers and closets.

The photos should be stored on a flash drive and it or the physical photos should be stored away from home…they won't do you any good if they burn or are destroyed with the house.

Well, just as a quick FYI, the people at the apartment complex where I live are not in their right mind. We are in a Zone 2 which is on the Intercoastal and floods very easily. It was actually a mandatory evacuation and these old people that are still there are just as determined not to leave. Anyway I am finally in West Palm Beach and now at my friend's home. The drive up 95 was not as crazy as I thought it would be. Matter fact, there were no lines at any of the gas stations, so was even able to top off my gas tank. So all is well for now.

after Ike,, i took every single photo out of the house and spent an entire w/e at CVS and Walgreens scanning them to a cd and then to a usb,, mailed the CD to our son,,,then we emailed them around to the family (it appears google is also family lol)........now everyone has a copy. (course i sorted the photos' first,, all fuzzy's trashed,, all photos that didnt put a good light on the person etc),,

Still watching. The storm can still shift to whoever the hell it wants to go. Nothing is set in stone until it actually makes landfall and even then the track can change in an instant.

I wont breathe totally easy until it has passed and then totally fizzles out.

My prayers and thoughts are with you all. I did see something yesterday that if you have the ability to text that would be your best bet to get a message out because the phone lines will be jammed. Stay safe - you'll all be in my thoughts
Usually texing works when calling doesn't. AT&T stopped charges for data & messaging overages until sometime this month in counties that got hit here. Just normal mobil bill & unlimited after that.

Good morning,:) before I start the last of the prep for la Irma I wanted to drop this off.
Feel free to copy and paste this to where it is needed.

Loved this... (author unknown)

Dear Non-Floridians,
Rules when discussing the hurricane with Floridians need to be put in place- and I have elected myself to make the rules. I held a fair election and I won by a unanimous vote.

1) Calling people who don't evacuate "idiots" or saying "they deserve what happens to them" is a judgement statement that without facts, you are not qualified to make.
We live in a state that is not the 'Spring Breakers' idea you have in your mind. We have more 55 plus communities than you can imagine. Elderly who can't drive because of age, or leave because of finances. A lot of our elderly, don't have "blood family" so they are relying on their "God made" family. We aren't leaving our grandmas and grandpas behind alone to face Irma. They need younger people right now to make sure they have what they need to survive this storm and the devastation. Most of them have pets that are as old as they are. Just like your kids would be your priority, their furry companions are theirs.

2) Just go get a plane ticket! (You can't just fly out.) Don't make statements or give advice on how we should evacuate. You don't have the slightest knowledge of what we are up against. There are challenges to leaving. Flights out are being changed, cancelled, delayed. Tickets are $2-3,000 higher than they normally are. To fly out of Florida today, if you got a flight, one-way, could cost about 3,000.00

3) Don't say "Get in your car and drive fast out"
A- Gas stations are getting fuel still, but that fuel is gone before the lines are empty.
B- There is no driving fast. Cars are moving 5-7 mph on highways trying to get to safety. The lines are long and imagine, with a gas shortage, being stuck on highways in jams for 12-15 hours.

4) Florida has one way out, and that is through the top (Northern) part of the state. There are basically 2 major roads out. Those roads are jammed, backed up, and not expected to change.

5) To post "Florida is about to be wiped off the map" because you are watching the news reports and panicking from 3,000 miles away- is not the most uplifting thing for us to see. Plus, don't speak your devastation to us. Be positive!

6) "If I lived in Florida, I would have evacuated a week ago." Well I'm not so sure that you would have. It's not that simple if you have a heart...not only that, you don't know until the final days which path the storm is going to take. Homes have to be boarded up. Things have to be done to ensure that if you do leave, you have somewhere to return. Then after our homes are secured, we again...have elderly who need their homes secured. So I'd say if you were here, you wouldn't leave so fast.

7) Stop saying God is angry and that's why Texas went through what Texas went through and that Florida is being hit.
God isn't angry. Every person in the path of destruction was created in His image. Every person not in the path of destruction was created in His image. He is not angry. He is not judging us. He is not putting His wrath down. If you believe that, we don't serve the same God. I serve the one who sent Jesus. The one who cast all judgement He had on the cross. The one who wants nothing but divine goodness for all mankind. (It is written in Matthew, that God has no judgement left. He put it all on the cross)
Floridians are talking to God right now, He is giving us peace, He is giving us direction, and He is going to get us through this storm - THAT HE DID NOT SEND.

8) "Go to a safer part of the state." Yes, we thought of that. No one knows exactly what part that is. If Irma takes a turn it could hit the west coast- if we are all fleeing to the west coast because it says the east coast is the most dangerous, then that could be costly. We know what we need to do and we are monitoring the situation.

Feel free to stand in faith with us as we prepare for Irma's arrival.
Feel Free to pray for divine intervention.
Feel Free to pray for our elderly, our people who can't leave, our communities.
Feel Free to check on us, text us, call us. But, don't text your fears of our demise. Don't call us crying because you are scared for us.
We have a storm to conquer. As warriors we need to be healthy, mentally and physically.

When your son or daughter or friend gets ready to go play in a competitive sport ... before the game, do you call them and say ....
"you are going to lose"
"don't show up for the game"
"The odds are against you"
I would hope not... well we are preparing to overcome this storm. Send us some prayers and encouragement! We welcome it! If you are going to do anything less than that, turn your TV or radio off and keep your mouth shut!

Rules will be strictly enforced...I don't know how yet but don't break them... Now, I have to go see what I can do to help my community get ready for Irma's arrival.
God bless all, stay safe, love and help your neighbors.:)
Amen!

So, being someone who is not in the area, can anyone tell me why people leave behind so many (extremely expensive) boats/yachts??
I don't just mean in Florida, we always see in when hurricanes hit.
If anyone knows, are these boats fully insured?
Are these people SO rich that the boats are just disposable to them?
This just always baffles me.

Continued prayers for you all!! Please stay safe.
Many people move them, but there ate only so many places available to move to. Texans would hve had to move as far as Mississippi. Can't evac & take them with you. Nothing to do but leave them where they are.

those expensive boats are toys to the rich,, in the end they value their families/pets/self and simply evac,, leaving everything else behind.

to rent a marina spot,, the boat owner carries about $1mil in insurance to protect the dock/others,, he may or may not carry insurance on his boat (depending on value/loans outstanding),,as far as moving a boat,,,,,that has to be done well ahead of time,, some boats are too big to move across land.,, some cant even sail them out dodging storms (like now),, boats dont turn on a dime.

NASA 1RD is a a semi touristy road down here,, after Ike,, we drove around yachts on the road.
I45 South always gets blocked in a major. It goes all the way avross to Galveston Island.

Well I have been working all day (by myself) trying to get up as much plywood (scraps we have around the house) as I can on the windows, been a hard day. Then I got a text from my stepson this afternoon asking if we were good, told him what I had done and what still needed done, he said he is coming over in the morning with his bosses construction trailer and plywood to get us taken care of, his boss said use whatever he needed and don't worry about it. I am feeling a little better now. :)

Gather any important papers. House, vehicle, health, other insurance policies & titles. Birth certificates, passports, etc. Double ziplock & seal the top with tape as well. Sent from my LG-V700 using Tapatalk
I went a little further, I have a vacuum sealer for food, so I put everything in vacuum bags, no chance of it getting water. :D
