stuck in a squishy pod called my brain
Well I have been working all day (by myself) trying to get up as much plywood (scraps we have around the house) as I can on the windows, been a hard day. Then I got a text from my stepson this afternoon asking if we were good, told him what I had done and what still needed done, he said he is coming over in the morning with his bosses construction trailer and plywood to get us taken care of, his boss said use whatever he needed and don't worry about it. I am feeling a little better now. :)

I went a little further, I have a vacuum sealer for food, so I put everything in vacuum bags, no chance of it getting water. :D
that is a good idea,, i was going to scan my important paperwork,, but i think i will also take your tip as well.
as for paperwork,, ours is pretty small:

2 ss cards
2 birth certs
1 marriage cert
2 auto titles
1 house title/deed (about 4 pages)
1 adoption paperwork (pops adopted me when i was 37-lol)

everything else is on the net,, taxes, insurance, bank and broker docs.

i try to stay 'bug out ready',,older style big laptop bag for laptop, a few back up cords , usb's, doc's, jewelry, 2 small guns, my vape stash with power brick.

my backpack will hold clothes, meds & tablet

i keep making more steps towards minimalism,, i used to have 45 levi's,, and then a bunch of other brands too,,,a closet 12x13 filled to the brim...now i am down to about 30 items total and trying to work my way to 10 or 15 total....(some people only own 6 clothing articles!- problem is i get cold, so i need layers) in a perfect world for me, all of my clothes would fit in a backpack.

I heard Tennessee on the tv earlier today,,so I ran to google maps to confirm my memory of where Alabama was in relation.

outerbands can get nasty too.
Yep! We will put the patio stuff up and keep things charged. We'll have to worry about tornados.... mid-low 60's for the storm.

a crazy thought,, only you would understand........here are to 2 minimalist women who could walk into a closet and see a whole house :)
Heehee!

I have more plants and books than clothes and "stuff".
My opinion of clothes is that they serve a function…no more. When we moved to FL we gave away all our winter gear. So I have only one really dressy outfit, and about 30 other every day articles of clothing (T-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, cargo pants) a bunch of 95¢ flip-flops and 3 pairs shoes.

It looks like Irma will be not much more than a regular storm by the time it hits your state. Yeay!!!

I tell you what... living in Ocala and going to the hospice thrift store you will find some very nice winter coats that would cost $$$ up north for little to nothing.

there are gonna be quite a few confused and dis-located gators soon. (we have them too,, but not nearly as many)......doesn't Florida also have quite a bit of (former pet) snakes too?
Yes! University of Florida goes out when the temperature falls to collect all the boa constrictor that are giant from living wild. Plus FL has a lot of poisonous snakes.

Evening crew. Hope all are fairing well and well prepared. Decided days ago to stay in place in my comfortable prison on the beach. Sharing a pic of the Diplomat Hotel from down the street. Hollywood AiA is a ghost town.

Well we tried to rotate it. It's too late to tinker with it. Long day.

Honestly never seen such hysteria about a storm in my life. It's no surprise to me they named it Irma.

Good luck and be safe out there. :)

Hi all, good to see everybody is mostly prepped. @Burnie, I feel for you. I spent the day covering windows and putting down the old awnings, including huge one. Probably a couple hundred pounds covering a 12' sliding glass door.

On the down side Home Depot closed earlier than they ever have before, so I had to make do and get creative. Everything took longer, I even ran out of duct tape.

Wish it was just a storm. But considering some Floridians may end up losing everything they have and others may be forced to find alternative places to live because their homes are badly damaged, I think they have every right to hysteria. And all that with limted funds in many cases.
