Hi all, just checking in from Miami. Sustained windy rain storm for hours with strong gusts, some of them scary. Should get worse (hopefully not much worse) throughout the day until the afternoon. Still absolutely nothing like the keys are about to get. My prayers go out to them.

Power has blinked several times, but hasn't gone out. I'm one of the lucky ones, saw on TV that over 200,000 Miami-Dade residents are without power already. Stay safe everyone!

Checking in from Deerfield Beach. Damn if it's not hurricaning outside. Blowing a gale. Not sure of wind speeds and such but the trees and bushes are whipping. Definitely can tell how cheesy these sliding glass doors are, you can see the drapes moving during the strongest gusts. Obviously we still have lights and Internet and we're praying it stays that way. I wouldn't mind treating and storing the ready gas cans for next time.
Abby dog isn't liking this at all. She climbed up in my lap as soon as I got up and plopped into my recliner. Winds woke me about 20 minutes ago (6:00am) and shortly thereafter I came out to provide a spot for the doggy .... to plop down. Poor girl is probably gonna get another doggy tranquilizer.
Doree has been up since about 3:30. I was up and down till then and she couldn't sleep with me bouncing around.
Everyone stay safe and I'll check in again as the day progresses. Looks like the eye is getting ready to wump up on Key West in just a few minutes.

Hopefully your utilities will hang on. My whole neighborhood has underground utilities although we're fed from overhead lines somewhere. Had a twitch earlier but overall they've been rock steady. Praying for you partner.

Ok...this is not funny.
I have a :censored: snake out in my screen room.
About an hour ago I killed 2 :censored: roaches/palmetto bugs running across my living room floor.
Not gonna have this - nope, nope, nope !!!!!
I love snakes. Kept a few for years. Palmetto bugs are a different story. You want to see Bea have a nervous breakdown…bring one to her house.

It looks like it might be a non-poisonous coral snake, but don't take my word for it. Be safe, Classy.

Coral Snakes
Actually there is no such thing as a non-poisonous coral snake. Coral snakes, endemic to Florida, have some of the deadliest poisonof any snake. Classy has a scarlet snake.

Just checking in. Still in West Palm Beach been heavy rain and winds off and on all night. There's even been a few tornado warnings and flickering of Lights. Other than that not much else thankfully. Now comes more of the waiting. Worst part no brewed coffee only instant- NOT NICE . . ..:w00t: :-x

I think Classy's right and it's a Cemophora - Wikipedia

But I'd still keep it at shovel's length.

Yep. Def not a coral snake. Red and yellow, kills a fellow.

Woke up to a tornado alert within the last hour. Skirted the building. Street lights went vertical. Def 100mph+winds. More of those must have come inland overnight. Glad I missed it and that this formidable building doesn't shake.

Good luck. :)

If you already know this, just disregard...:), but if you have a way to heat water, a Coleman, or can manually light your stovetop, you can still make coffee in a pan.
I tried it, and it was easy, and a pretty darn good cup of coffee.
This version of directions is a little elaborate, I used a fine mesh cone strainer.

...anyway, just thought I'd share.

Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. :nun:

Oh snakes outside? Shiver. Snakes in the house? I'm moving.... Oh Classwife, good luck! Whether it's non poisonous or not, no fun. I don't find any redeeming value to palmetto bugs, either, had one in my hair once, and now if I see them, I either get the husband to kill them, or I do it myself. And, I don't even think that the ones in AZ even measure up to the ones in FL. To be fair, had one not attacked me AKA a bat, I might let them live.... But that was a step Too Far.

I'm so glad to hear everyone posting is doing alright, up until now, and still keeping y'all in my thoughts and prayers....

Good morning all. Hope you're faring well.

Blowing a gale, yes.

Weather Channel reports 49 mph on iPhone at my location but visibly not nearly 30. It's been more accurate. Maybe a localization error.

Damn if I didn't drop one of my favorite glass syringes during the tornado warning. Well onto this parade a little rain must fall. Hope thas bout it. Gonna try to take some pics check the intra-coastal soon.

Send the doggy tranquilizer.

Good luck all. :)

Lol, I do that about monthly here when I'm dropping off after a big supper.

I just grab a filter and stuff it in a big funnel in a large mug with the same amt of coffee that I brew a 8 cup pot with in the morning. Awesome!

    It's my Quicker-Picker-Upper :)
