i live very near the coast,,,,my home was oddly fine,,,,,huge areas north and west of me got wiped out and had the worst of the storms. pull a map of your area,, look for bayous/creeks/rivers,, Irma looks like she wants to also dump some major water.

80% of those flooded in Houston didn't have the right insurance.....and many thought they were safe from flooding because they were not on the coast.....problem is the 20 trillion gallons of water all at once,, they say we got so much rain that it equaled NYC's 50 year useage.
I was wondering how you are! Haven't seen you around, so.....hi!

Yoohoo!! DH is laying out line to connect our pump to the generator so we'll have running water and be able to flush.

He was planning to wait til after Irma but decided not to.

What a guy :wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:
That's great!

It has not been a good day . . . With all these continuing news report/updates about "Irma" all day long, I'm sitting here extreamly nauseated right now.

615885_5413f7046b0be836163825.jpeg

AND - Although, I left "My" apartment today to finish up a few errands before I leave to go to my Friends home, I arrive back to "My apartment complex find that the management/maintenance people where I live had left early - already closed up shop at 4 PM, shut down all the elevators, sandbagged doorways, and will not be back here until sometime next week and "Irma" passes by (wasn't supposed to be until tomorrow - Thankfully I can still get out tomorrow when I had planned to do at 12 Noon). Also, since we are in a Flood zone (#1) by the inter-coastal and have been told to evacuate by city/state, many of "My" neighbors have done so today too (Thankfully - They went to shelters/special needs facilities, Family/Friends, or just left the state). The worse thing though are all of those neighbors who did not leave here and are planning to stick it out as many of us did during "Wilma" & "Mathew" - NOT GOOD ! ! ! :(

Also, I am now second guessing myself for NOT trying to get a airfare out of here . . .

"My" apologies for just spewing, however I need to tell someone right now . . .

Anyway, it is what it is . . .

OKAY NOW - Nothing to see here - "You" Can All Move Along . . .

i was in California visiting our son & his expanding family..(new baby).....it literally took me 2 days of planes, trains and autos to get home,,,,,,got some sleep for 1 day, then followed by 3 days of gutting a friends home............i am pooped out,, but also grateful we weren't hit. Harvey and Irma people are going to have at least a year of hardship. i am looking through my vape stuff,, i can part with some of it if anyone here loses their stuff or needs some help.

Interesting info. Read on-

TAMPA, September 6, 2017
– Following rigorous scientific wind testing on a full-scale, 1,400 square foot single-story home in its unique laboratory this summer, the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) has important new guidance for all homeowners preparing for major wind storms such as Hurricane Irma: close all interior doors, in addition to all windows and exterior doors.

High winds, such as those currently expected from Hurricane Irma, place homes under intense pressure. Wind entering the home through an open or broken window, can create strong upward pressure on the roof. Closing interior doors helps compartmentalize the pressure inside the home into smaller areas reducing the overall force on the roof structure, which gives the roof a better chance of staying intact.

“The roof is your first line of defense against anything Mother Nature inflicts on a home, and during a bad storm your roof endures fierce pressure from wind, rain, and flying debris that may be outside,” said Julie Rochman, IBHS president and CEO. “But the roof also must withstand internal pressure if winds get inside. The pressure in your home can build like air in a balloon, eventually causing the roof to fail and blow apart, which – particularly in a hurricane – allows water to come pouring in.”

As the eastern United States and Caribbean islands prepare for Hurricane Irma, IBHS urges homeowners to follow all evacuation orders and be sure to shut the doors on Irma to increase its ability to withstand the storm.

IBHS offers additional hurricane preparedness tips here. The Institute will provide further data behind our summer wind testing findings in October.

Ya' know what is striking "Me" kinda of really funny right now . . . Is that out of all the other hurricanes I've been through over the years - the one that really took me aback was the time I was in NYC and who should come to visit - Hurricane "Sandy" - just a day before I was to leave there and go to "My" Friends in PA and then get "My" flight to come back to Florida . . . There I was in NYC and I was dealing with another hurricane . . . Talk about having "Luck" . . .

Thankfully the Airlines called "My" contact number the night before she was to hit and rescheduled "Me" to fly out the following day after "Sandy" hit . . . However, The damage and destruction to the area (NY/NJ/PA) was unbelievable and so bad - that even with a ticket and car rental invoice in hand - they wouldn't let me go through Manhattan into NJ . . . So I had to drive over 50 miles out of the way through Brooklyn & Staten Island to get back to Philadelphia for "My" flight back to FL . . . ;)

I was working on the road during Sandy, the job I was on was in Delaware We had another going in East Rutherford. No-one being sure which way the storm would go it was decided Me & my crew would go to NJ. It was a coin toss

I rode Sandy out in East Rutherford N.J.

Good morning,:) before I start the last of the prep for la Irma I wanted to drop this off.
Feel free to copy and paste this to where it is needed.

Loved this... (author unknown)

Dear Non-Floridians,
Rules when discussing the hurricane with Floridians need to be put in place- and I have elected myself to make the rules. I held a fair election and I won by a unanimous vote.

1) Calling people who don't evacuate "idiots" or saying "they deserve what happens to them" is a judgement statement that without facts, you are not qualified to make.
We live in a state that is not the 'Spring Breakers' idea you have in your mind. We have more 55 plus communities than you can imagine. Elderly who can't drive because of age, or leave because of finances. A lot of our elderly, don't have "blood family" so they are relying on their "God made" family. We aren't leaving our grandmas and grandpas behind alone to face Irma. They need younger people right now to make sure they have what they need to survive this storm and the devastation. Most of them have pets that are as old as they are. Just like your kids would be your priority, their furry companions are theirs.

2) Just go get a plane ticket! (You can't just fly out.) Don't make statements or give advice on how we should evacuate. You don't have the slightest knowledge of what we are up against. There are challenges to leaving. Flights out are being changed, cancelled, delayed. Tickets are $2-3,000 higher than they normally are. To fly out of Florida today, if you got a flight, one-way, could cost about 3,000.00

3) Don't say "Get in your car and drive fast out"
A- Gas stations are getting fuel still, but that fuel is gone before the lines are empty.
B- There is no driving fast. Cars are moving 5-7 mph on highways trying to get to safety. The lines are long and imagine, with a gas shortage, being stuck on highways in jams for 12-15 hours.

4) Florida has one way out, and that is through the top (Northern) part of the state. There are basically 2 major roads out. Those roads are jammed, backed up, and not expected to change.

5) To post "Florida is about to be wiped off the map" because you are watching the news reports and panicking from 3,000 miles away- is not the most uplifting thing for us to see. Plus, don't speak your devastation to us. Be positive!

6) "If I lived in Florida, I would have evacuated a week ago." Well I'm not so sure that you would have. It's not that simple if you have a heart...not only that, you don't know until the final days which path the storm is going to take. Homes have to be boarded up. Things have to be done to ensure that if you do leave, you have somewhere to return. Then after our homes are secured, we again...have elderly who need their homes secured. So I'd say if you were here, you wouldn't leave so fast.

7) Stop saying God is angry and that's why Texas went through what Texas went through and that Florida is being hit.
God isn't angry. Every person in the path of destruction was created in His image. Every person not in the path of destruction was created in His image. He is not angry. He is not judging us. He is not putting His wrath down. If you believe that, we don't serve the same God. I serve the one who sent Jesus. The one who cast all judgement He had on the cross. The one who wants nothing but divine goodness for all mankind. (It is written in Matthew, that God has no judgement left. He put it all on the cross)
Floridians are talking to God right now, He is giving us peace, He is giving us direction, and He is going to get us through this storm - THAT HE DID NOT SEND.

8) "Go to a safer part of the state." Yes, we thought of that. No one knows exactly what part that is. If Irma takes a turn it could hit the west coast- if we are all fleeing to the west coast because it says the east coast is the most dangerous, then that could be costly. We know what we need to do and we are monitoring the situation.

Feel free to stand in faith with us as we prepare for Irma's arrival.
Feel Free to pray for divine intervention.
Feel Free to pray for our elderly, our people who can't leave, our communities.
Feel Free to check on us, text us, call us. But, don't text your fears of our demise. Don't call us crying because you are scared for us.
We have a storm to conquer. As warriors we need to be healthy, mentally and physically.

When your son or daughter or friend gets ready to go play in a competitive sport ... before the game, do you call them and say ....
"you are going to lose"
"don't show up for the game"
"The odds are against you"
I would hope not... well we are preparing to overcome this storm. Send us some prayers and encouragement! We welcome it! If you are going to do anything less than that, turn your TV or radio off and keep your mouth shut!

Rules will be strictly enforced...I don't know how yet but don't break them... Now, I have to go see what I can do to help my community get ready for Irma's arrival.
God bless all, stay safe, love and help your neighbors.:)

Considering several airlines capped the fares, I call bovine excrement on that one. ;)

Airlines cap prices for Hurricane Irma evacuees

JetBlue (JBLU) said Wednesday it's "offering any remaining seats in select markets" at reduced fares of between $99 and $159, including taxes.

American Airlines (AAL), which has a major hub in Miami, said it has capped the price of main cabin seats on single leg flights at $99.

Delta (DAL) announced it won't charge more than $399 for tickets on all flights to and from southern Florida and the Caribbean. That price cap will apply to all seats, including first class.

American said Wednesday that most of the flights out of the area were now sold out, but the company was working to add more. Delta said it had seats available, but it doesn't fly to many locations out of southern Florida.

All three companies say their price caps will be in effect through September 13.

Mornin OBG

I was eyed by both Frances & Jean in a three week span, now thats some luck there huh?

Stay Safe
I've only had the pleasure once. Dora in 1964. Ran to the barn and nailed some tin back down, fed the horses and ran back to the house. Just as we got to the house the other side hit and it was instant hurricane again. Awesome how fast it started back up.

@Wuzznt Me . . .

 WOW ! ! ! It's been a long time . . . So - GREAT to see Ya' post . . . :D
Really hope that "You" & Wifey will be SAFE even if "Irma" decides to do a once over . . . Sending Ya' both some . . .
It has been Unc. Stay safe down there. We're high and dry so our only problem will be wind. Water hasn't gotten up here since Noah got off the ark.
