Since both my gigs were undoable in the aftermath of Andrew I volunteered with the Red Cross.
Newbs here don't believe me when I tell them trailer parks in Florida City were all knee high.
One could stand on one end and see all the way to the other.

BTW, the Red Cross wasn't very helpful. A bunch of us organized the Green Cross and fed over 30,000 people
with the help of Publix Supermarket donations and Army MRE.s

As in Texas, as soon as the gub'min got into the act the shelters turned into concentration camps.
I almost got arrested by a US Marshall for giving out cans of baby formula at one shelter.

The Red Cross is a waste of time and money. I refuse to donate a dime to them. I've heard several stories where they hindered instead of helped. :grr:

AC...Oh yea, I spent several hours sitting in my pick-up or the old lady's Toyota
in the middle of the night for a dose of AC

Hubby slept in a lounger out by the pool last night. Just to try to catch a breeze. Poor guy. He's such an AC guy.

I'll remember Andrew till the day i die. The rain went on and on, and my Uncle needed to be flown to Baptist hospital in Nashville. When the weather was so bad helicopters couldn't fly so they had to hire a medical plane to take him there.

Total agreement.
Yea, I need AC too. I had a doctor tell me I'm allergic to heat.

p.s. Andrew was a real CAT 5.
Yep. Irma's damaging impacts are spread over a much wider area and thus affect more people, but the wind damage to structures and other property exhibit nowhere near the true Cat 5 intensity of Andrew. I believe this is at least partly due to her interaction with Cuba before she turned north.

I really hurt for those peeps down there truly. But that protracted Western jog saved our bacon I think. The longer that thing would've stayed over water in the Gulf Stream, the harder the state would've been hit wherever. We had 86º water waiting for it up the Keys.

Good luck all. :)

Off to the MIL's to do some stuff over there. She doesn't have power either but she wanted to go home. :)

So we will go clean up her yard and do some power washing before putting her patio furniture back out. Clean up the furniture also while we're at it.

Thank goodness for Gas power washers. ;)

Updated status,, but they may have spotty electric/cell/isp service so dont worry if communications is difficult for them.

Below is our Irma impacted list. If you would like to have your status updated that would be great for others looking out for you. Lets treat it like a report card,,,

A= good shape just a little clean up
B=minor damage/repairs needed
C=more than minor repairs
D= major repairs need
F= total loss, may need help
OK= ok, and you want to leave it at that

Of course you dont have to rate yourself until later.

Its quite possible you wont find your damage/needs until later. I dont want to assign a status to anyone,,so I leave that to you.

If someone needs help they can email of course to see what can be done to assist you. I know that I have some vape related items I can send you if need be.

I don't have any use for St. Vincent De Paul.

My sister is a survivor of Katrina. Her our brother got her out just before it hit. When they got to Texas away from the devastation he rode a Greyhound bus up to Washington where i lived. She had nothing but the clothes on her back. The clothes etc Saint Vincent gave her literally should have been burned.

The Red Cross is a waste of time and money. I refuse to donate a dime to them. I've heard several stories where they hindered instead of helped. :grr:

I'm hearing "rumors" that it's going on in a few parts of Texas.
When I found out how much the CEO made during, after, Katrina we stopped giving. Salvation Army is who we support.

How about the lady with the headkerchief collecting under false pretenses?
A lot of that going on..Red Cross stealing donations from Churches?
The Red Cross' administration, like many of those type organizations, are thieves.
The volunteers are mostly good folks..but mostly good OLD folks... (not that I have anything against good old folks..:rolleyes: )

Good shape here in West Melbourne, Fl. Just some clean up. A couple sections of fence to replace.
Power came back on around 11:30 last night. Still no cable, but it's progress. At least we have AC. Our generator at least kept the essentials running, like the refrigerator, a few lights, battery chargers, and the coffee maker. Time to wrap up all the lead cords and power strips until the next time.

I'm more worried about the five liters nicotine
in the little freezer spending two days not being frozen :(
I left several liters behind during Matthew last year. It assumed room temperature for at least a week while power was out, and then when power came back, it got put in a fridge (not a freezer) for several more weeks. Of course, this is not at all optimal, but nic doesn't spoil like meat either. I've mixed with some of that nic since then and it was fine.

Oh, and much of that same nic is now once again at room temperature. I'm not gonna obsess over it.
