NOAA says, "Don't take the shutters down yet."

Budget another $1000 or so to have a decent sized LP tank installed in the ground. I don't have a generator at my place in FL, but I do have LP for cooking and a fireplace. My old above-ground tank went missing during Matthew. We found it in the in the "woods" (mostly palmettos) of an empty lot down the street.

Good to know approximately how much for an underground tank installation. This helps in deciding. We don't have natural gas lines in this neighborhood. I really wish that we did. Seems as though only HOA developments have them, in this area, since the developers got gas lines done.

At least we are on city water and sewer.

Robin another way it can be done is bolt the tank down on a pad with a yard of concrete in it about 4000 pounds it won't go anyplace, the propane co can give you the dimensions for the bolt pattern :)
First, thanks for the links!

I really would like the tank buried. We don't have a large lot and I have to say, I'm not a fan of the look of a tank sitting out. I don't know if the city would even allow that.

I have hubby researching small generators right now. The thought if his grumpy .... if we lose AC again... just ugh!

He could be looking at whole house though. Who knows what he is up to in there

Woah. I have learned more about toilets, Florida generally, grocery stores (I am fond of my neighborhood Walmart, but I do pretty much my own thing including checking out and bagging myself) and have gotten so fast at it, some of the employees keep telling me to apply there for work, LOL. Sometimes, it's an appealing thought. We still use Sam's for a lot of stuff, but TBH the quality around here is all pretty much similar and you can't beat the prices. The lady who "runs" the self-checkout always comes and inputs all the "bring your newspaper flyers" for me, without my even asking, LOL. Since I hate clipping coupons, Walmart it is. I *will* say (and I wasn't expecting it) their pharmacy has the Best Service, and they're fast.... And they don't just ask you if you want to speak to the pharmacist, they *make* you do it, there is one dedicated pharmacist just for that. They really are so much better (and cheaper) than CVS or any other "big" pharmacy chain, that I just go there and do most everything. I have never met our Walmart manager, I hope to keep it that way....

But mostly, I am overwhelmed with all the support, caring and concern for members of this forum for each other, it's a horrible event, but it's wonderful to see it, and I am thrilled that so many members who were in danger are coming through it okay, for the most part, and you are all still in my continued thoughts and prayers.... I hope everyone with even the slightest cleanup or damage is able to get it fixed as quickly and easily as possible. You hurricane people are *hardy* man, I wouldn't be looking for a generator for the next storm, I'd be going, "Wow, time to move...." but I'm glad to see all the resilience, too! :) Hope you all stay well, stay safe, and that getting things back on track is as easy as it possibly can be!

If it weren't for hubby's mom, we would board things up and go to Michigan until the storm was done. She won't leave. Doesn't even fly but will take a train, which she absolutely loves.

Crap! Just realized we need to get her to start getting in touch with hurricane shutter installers.

She has none right now.

Definitely going to get a portable for short term and a window AC unit.

After all the storms are done, we will be discussing a more permanent solution.

Now is not the time to get a portable generator unless you like getting ripped off.
We are looking into a Generac. The way people move so slow to get things done down here... might have to go with something we can do ourselves before we get hit again!!

That's the way to go..and as OBG said, attach it to a concrete pad.
As Rossum said, put aside some money for a decent LP installation, and another for the electrician to wire it up for you.
