I have gotten good replies from multiple people on here about coils. I bought a bunch of SS different gauges. What is the pros and cons of SS, Kanthal, Nichrome, Titanium and all the rest. I would like to mix and match with coils but can only do some materials with TC Any advice for a newbie that is trying to someday be on the other end giving advice. Thank You

Ni200 and Ti#1 can ONLY be used in TC modes. Nichrome and Kanthal are typically* only used in wattage mode. SS can be safely used in any mode. For most TC builds, a simple spaced coil works best. For regulated devices, I recommend spaced builds. For mechs, I recommend contact coils.

*some mods claim to do TC on Kanthal and Nichrome...

For TC, NI200 works best. SS can be very finicky depending on mod and tank (or RTA/RDA) that you use. I'm not a fan of TI whatsoever.

NI200
Advantages: 26-28 gauge works best (for 3 to 4mm coils), you can make sub-ohm in the 0.2 ohm range that works absolutely great and doesn't need high wattage as they work great at 35-45W. It's the best metal for TC as most mods that does TC will work perfectly with it. Works great on single coils setups.
Disadvantages: do NOT dry burn (oxides are created and it's bad for you), you have to use the drip technique to balance the coils to ensure no hot spots. Soft metal, some people have trouble shaping them right.

SS
Advantage: harder metal, easier for some to work with. Can be used in watt mode also. Works better in dual coils setups.
Disadvantages: TC is moderate with it, some mods and tanks can have trouble with it staying in TC mode or working TC correctly. Higher resistance, requires larger gauge or shorter wire to get low sub-ohms.

I'm glad that I bought the SS but I don't know what to do with the titanium didn't even mean to buy it I found out after looking at the receipt

I got some (TI) to try it out... didn't like it, couldn't get to get it to really work all that great. I found that it had a metallic taste to it.

I finally got a tank (Billow V3) that I finally got the SS to work ok with it, but for all my other stuff, I've always returned to NI200.

For the SS, it worked ok with my RDA, but until I got the Billow, I tried many times to get it to work with my other tanks that I rebuild the coil cartridges for, and it never worked.

I gather that it's a question that you need enough of the wire (as in a dual coil setup) for the TCR value to be enough for the mods I have to "register" it, as opposed to NI that the TCR value are (being the largest variance metal) that most mods can register it correctly even with a smallish single coil.

But at least with the SS, worst case is I'd use it in watt mode and it would be tolerable/useable.

Thanks I guess it's just going to be experimenting but what I'm getting not too many people like the titanium

Unlike @Imfallen_Angel, I have no issues with TC in SS. I use a lot of 316L, and a little 430. I also have no issues with TC in Ti. I recommend that you try a little of everything until you find what works best for you.

Since you have SS WIRE i would suggest 26 gauge wire.

I don't like thinner gauge wire because the Coils are fragile. I like to remove the wick and Dry burn the coil.

Now the reason for Stainless Steel.

SS provides best flavor

SS can be used in either power or TC mode.

If yoy are using TC and your mod kicks back to power mode you are safe the same can't be said for Nickel or Titanium. Those are dangerous to your health once the coil gets 600+ degrees.

You've got some great advice here on what's safe to use for VW vs TC. Just thought I would add a couple of thoughts about the different materials.

Yes there are some differences in how different wire materials vape, but they really are minor. I've found that wire gauge and the amount of wire used have a much bigger impact on my vape. I learned using Kanthal, and then played around with most of the rest (quite a bit). I'm back to Kanthal now ... it just works for me.

Experiment as much as you want and see what you like. It's all good as long as you're enjoying the journey

Some people have no issues with SS, but I ended up looking it up and found quite a few threads and forums about it, where that lots of people were having the same issues I've been having. 316L (which is the "standard" that most get or carry) seems to really be touch and go, as I stated, depending on mod and tank. People were reporting that the 430 is a lot better.

But, just got a new tank, still wanted to give it a go and was very pleasantly surprised that with this one, I've had no trouble at all with my 316L SS with same mod. Hence why I believe that it's got to do with the amount of wire used, as with my other tanks, I couldn't get a single coil with a low number of wraps to work in sub-ohm / TC, compared to this one, which I made two 1 ohm coils (to get 0.5), and it's like night and day... not a single issue, mod hasn't switched out of SS TC once. I remember than most of the other people that were also having issues, were also using single coils setups, so it's a fairly logical conclusion.

I have 28g round and 28g fused Clapton SS... I wont use anything else but SS in my tank or rdas. just for fun I've twisted a hybrid coil, the 28g fused Clapton with some 28g claptoned kanthal.. worked fine. some will mix the tc metals because they're going for colours. I can say after using the SS, I don't like the claptoned kanthal anymore... which is why I twisted it.. was an interesting colour pattern.
