I am still smoking about 5- 6 cigs a day. Has anyone else done this?

I am a brand new member here but wanted to chime in on this question: I saw several men I work with puffing on these various contraptions. I had no idea that ecigarettes came any other way then the elcheapo's that one sees at the corner stores. I tried one of those and Man what a joke. Anyway, over the next month or two I kept seeing more and more of these high tech devices and my curiosity grew. They'd talk about them and I'd see more and more smoke (vapor) as time went on. My Birthday was June the 13th of this year and I had been smoking for 45 years. No one enjoyed their cigarettes more than me or was more addicted. I had tried everything in the past from hypnosis, to pills, to gum to patches. I tried it all. The day before my birthday I accidently discovered that my city had a vap shop. I went in primarily out of curiosity and discovered all these flavors and many different combinations of Mods.
Well hell tomorrow is my birthday so what the heck. I spent about 70 bucks for a good Mod and some ejuice. That night I smoked only 2 cigarettes. Literally only 3 puffs the next day (My birthday). You see, I had to justify spending the 70 bucks. Doing so on a whim was not justified in my mind so I made the choice to genuinely try and just QUIT. I did quit. It soon will be 6 weeks and I have not faulted a single time. Here is some things that helped me.
I bought some shirts with no pockets. A big time no no in the past. Now my selection of shirts is out of this world. I then purchased some DIY ejuice supplies. I made commitements to quiting. Now I have turned a fearful idea (that of finally quiting) into success and have gained a whole new hobby. I will be saving a ton of money and quite frankly the DIY is fun to do. I vap heavily from the time I get up until I go to bed. But, I have QUIT Cigarettes and YOU can to. I and others here have faith in YOU. Plus my chest no longer has a rattle, wheezing is gone and my chest doesn't feel tight anymore. Within 3 days my cough was GONE. YIPPEEEE........................Bruce

I never did the occasional analog thing once I got my first mod, but one thing I did find that helped me was having multiple tanks/juices that had a higher nic so when I had those moments of weakness, I could curb them with a quick zap to the noggin! Its been 16 months so far and I am down to 3mg that I blend myself on an RDA. The key is to make the commitment, stay strong, and stay positive. If you slip up, just keep going and try again... you will get there if you really want to.

best of luck

I started vaping only to cut back on smoking. I thought if I couldonly smoke 10 a day instead of 40 to 50 a day I would be happy. I smoked a couple a day for 2 months. Bough a MVP and three days later I realized I went 3 days with no smokes. Did not want to start my day count of quiting over so I decided I would just quit. Will be a year in August. I smoked for 42 years.

I smoked and vaped back and forth for more than a year when I started. Back then the gear just wasn't good enough to keep me off of them, but even when the Ego style was invented to save us all, I still smoked anywhere from 2-5 cigarettes a day while vaping the rest of the time. I found I just gradually stopped wanting them. Honestly, I consider myself a non smoker and have been vaporizing for years, and still have the occasional cigarette when I'm out drinking with friends. Enough bourbon and somebody smoking one of my former brands next to me, and I'll sneak one. But that does it for me for a few months usually. I figure, honestly, the body is an amazing self cleaning machine, and one cigarette every few months, or even two or three a day, are nothing compared to a couple packs a day. I figure I inhale more carcinogens riding my motorcycle on the highway.

So, hang in there, you'll get there eventually.

Don't Beat yourself up ... Remember, It's NOT how many you smoke ... it's how many cigarettes you AVOID!!

Both my wife & I were smokers for 30 yrs. I was a 2 PAD Full Flavor & the wife was a 1 1/2 PAD Light smoker. Took me about 2 months to fully quit, but within 5 days I had cut back my analogs by 90%. My wife also cut back about 75% but took about 3 months to be Smoke Free!

Keep vaping, you'll eventually get there!

I started out with a Joye 510 5 years ago and basically just willed through it (pack a day Marlboro Red for 15 years). After about 3 days I was over the hump pretty much. After about 2 weeks I made the mistake of taking a drag off my brother's analog and it was the most foul thing I've ever tastes. Really makes you wonder how in Hades did you ever start smoking in the first place. Not getting a quality device is what usually throws most people off. Once you get something that you like it will get a lot easier. I went from a Joye 510, to the Joye Ego w/cartomizer tank, and I just got my first mechanical mod and rebuildable atty and I'm loving it.

I smoked analogs for 25 years. I stopped 7 days ago today. A year ago I tried quitting using a small cartridge base cigarette looking system. It did not last but maybe 3 days. Last week I bought a Lunar mechanical mod. What a huge difference. I tried a cigarette in the morning 4 days ago. It tasted terrible. Get a more powerful device and more flavors. That is your missing link. Cheers!

My wife and I started vaping on Christmas day last year. I smoked a few until the end of Feb. and my wife till the middle of March. One morning I got up got my coffee and went outside for my morning smoke and realized I had my APV in my hand. Figured what the heck. Vaped and haven't turned back since. Basically my wife finished our analogs and then said to heck with getting more. and hasn't looked back. When you are ready you will know it.

Those 4-6 are common at the start. The trick is to forget the lump sum of them & just challenge one at a time to add to your collection of cigarettes you haven't smoked. If you can't seem to cut out even the "one" then look into other THR products to use during those toughies. Swedish Snus for example works exceptionally well for a lot of people. Best of luck!

By the time I got decent equipment (Vision Spinner/EVOD tanks - and that was AFTER my Volcano Inferno set) It took me about 3 weeks to walk away from the cigarettes. I had 3 smokes left on March 10th. Just told myself that I'd already spent enough money on vape gear, I'm not going to buy that next pack. Smoked the last one around 5:00 that evening and haven't had one since.

It's not how many you're still smoking - it's the ones you AREN'T smoking :) You'll know when you're "done". Don't beat yourself up; maybe just try one less cigarette a day - it's all in the head. (or just spend a boat-load of money on vaping gear and "guilt" yourself into not buying any more cigarettes :D)

Good luck - keep coming back here for moral support - you're on the right track

:edit: For me now, it's not about not smoking, it's about what cool flavors I can have and building a new coil to try in my topper ;)

1. Throw away all your cigs lighters and matches to make it maixmally inconvenient to light up

I found the complete opposite for me, when i tried to give up the first time i threw out all my gear, but that made me want to go and buy them again, because i didnt have them and this made me feel insecure.

This time, i kept them in a drawer and i think knowing i had them and could have one whenever i wanted was much less stressful, whatever works for you.

It differs for people. I still smoke about 3-4/day but that is down from 20-30. To ween off the last few, I think it is a mental thing. A juice that was mentioned before in this thread that is worth checking out is WTA (whole tobacco alkaloid) infused ejuice by Aroma ejuice. It really helps on the cigarette craving and have found it to curb the desire because of the throat and lung hit it produces.

Thank you for this! I know I have already saved about $60 since I started down this path. When the vape store near me offered a free starter kit to anyone who threw out their last pack I was elated. At the time I was convinced I could do it. For about 24 hours I was cig free. Then I realized I did need to still incorporate a few smokes a day. My primary goal is to balance the price of vaping products with analogs.

I went on vacation to Disney World. I knew the Designated Smoking Area's were few and far between. I had my little basic e cig with me. I took a pack of 25 smokes with me, and I came home with 6. It was a 4 day vacation. My Dad was pretty impressed. A few times he asked me if I needed to go for a smoke. I said, no, I am good. I am still surprised how well this is working.

To everyone who has posted, thanks for your kind words of support and encouragement. I can't wait to put that sticker on my profile saying how long I have quit, and how much money I have saved!
