Go Iowa!!!! People think there is a whole lotta nuttin here, and I'm glad they do. If they figured out how beautiful a corn field can be, they'd ruin my paradise! Good to see you here! You're the only one I've seen so far.

Compared to what many are used to, there is a WHOLE LOT of nuttin here, which is EXACTLY why I love it so much. Cornfields next to a river valley full of timber! Born and raised in NW Iowa (Sioux City area), now living outside of Boone wondering if Minnesota is gonna flood everybody out again. :)

Grab some info from CASAA as well.

+1 - Definitely check CASAA out, they have LOADS of info which help dispell the misinformation the FDA and others (big Pharma and tobacco) have been putting out against e-cigs/PVs.

If a throat doctor sees PVs as a pretty clear winner against analog cigs you've got one of the best advocates for healthier living right there.

Thanks, Samurai. I'm pretty shy and quiet, and if you have any pointers about how to maintain composure, I'm all ears. I'm afraid I'm going to look like I need a smoke-LOL!
We received approval and are going ahead with this. He wants me to simply share my experience-apparently the folks in that department that have attempted to quit and failed expressed interest! I'm excited about that part. I'm going to touch on the following:
1. I had a twenty-five year history of smoking. I am thirty-four years old which means I smoked my first cig at the age of nine. I was a die-hard smoker as well...I ENJOYED it, as sad as it is. I have tried almost every method known to man to quit and failed each time.
2. I tried e-cigs for the first time only a couple of weeks or so ago as I had tried one that a friend had. Went out and bought my own, expecting that it might help me cut down.
3. Within a few days, I did not desire to smoke. The taste was too horrible to bear. I continue to vape as I used to smoke. Zero cravings, mild withdrawl symptoms.
4. I may touch a heartstring-I am indeed planning on telling this group that when I told my mom that I had cut back for a week and had been off them entirely for a couple of days (at the time of that conversation), she cried and thanked me for not putting her in the position of watching her only daughter die. Do folks here think it is okay to do that?
5. Answering questions to the best of my ability. I do plan on taking some business cards from Puresmoker that I got with some e-juice, and referring people here for information if they are interested.
Thoughts, folks?

not only do i think that's ok, that is what I would start with. Your emotional connection to that story lends your words weight and will captivate your audience immediately. Remember, these people came to hear what you have to say so half your battle is already over. Make sure that you reiterate that it is a physician who asked you to share your experience, and why. and don't be nervous, you are the expert in that situation, BE IT!

My Dr. was very happy to hear about me quitting but did not want to admit that the ecig was a good thing. Now, my pharmacist on the other hand was ecstatic and even went over all of the things that i could use to flavor and or cut the strength with. She even special ordered some pg and vg for me knowing exactly what i was going to use it for.

CASAA, I used the information from their website to present a case that I should be allowed to vape at work. Well, I can tell you that coming armed with the information acquired there I won my case easily and I am now allowed to vape inside. I was also asked by the head of human resources where she could get one for her mother.

I will keep you all abreast of developments as we have the Q&A going at 08 Monday morning. I'm excited, I'm nervous, and I'm hopeful. With the exception of the good surgeon, every individual in the room will be a current smoker.
I give sincere thanks to all who have given their words of encouragement.
Will let you all know what happens! Have a great weekend, everybody.

Thanks for this reassuring news! I think you'll find presenting this is easier to do than you expect if you keep in mind you are doing something that can genuinely help! One thing you could offer the group of smokers is what got most of us started - let them try it! The similarity of the rituals we all enjoy might help a couple of them take the next step. To save on supplies, perhaps some kind of tip could be put on for each one who wants to try. I know some are available on the web, but on short notice maybe a short length of tubing from your workplace could be cut and slipped over the end. Best wishes!

Brenna,
I think it is wonderful what you are doing to help those smokers. I have converted two people, would love to convert more. I watched my dh's mother die of copd and she smoked until the end. It is NOT a pretty sight. When I told my Dr about using the ecig, she wanted to see it and wanted me to vape in front of her. She wanted to see the vapor dissipate. I gave her a stack of business cards I have collected from ordering to give to her other patients who want to quit. Good luck with your speech. Definitely put in the part about your mom, personal information like that always gets me to listen more intently.

Thank you for asking and thank you for sharing!

I have my annual check-in with my allergist coming up May 12th and will be asking for his opinion on e-cigs. And also the mystery regarding the possible allergic or irritant reactions to PG question. He's a pretty open minded MD so I'm looking forward to seeing what his take is on these matters. Will post after I see him.

hi. when my son-in-law was in the hospital they gave him an e-cig. they use to put a patch on you.
both my doctor and my nurse of twelve years love that I use the e-cig. when I first brought it to their
attention they both researched it some. I would not doubt that they have recommended it to some of their
other patience. :vapor:
