My mother lives with me, who is a very conservative woman, very opposed to smoking, drinking, or anything of that sort.
I actually quit smoking analogs (or anything else) several years ago, but got to missing nicotine, so I recently got into vaping. (No way was I going back to smoking!)
So I've been a "closet" vaper, at least while I'm at home, which is annoying, as it makes me feel like a kid again, sneaking to smoke.
So yesterday she found some used cartos (which still smelled pretty heavily of e-juice) whilst emptying the trash, and of course had to give me the old "WTH are these things" spiel. So I showed her my vaping setup and explained it all as best I could...and I think it went surprisingly well.

I think I've convinced her that I'm not going to die of lung cancer and go to hell, which, if you knew this woman, you'd recognize as a monumental achievement. I feel a lot better now that I'm "out" about it, although it's still going to be weird the first time she actually sees me vaping.

Just thought I'd share that...

What were your friends and family's reactions when you started vaping? Most of my friends (the more informed ones) have been pretty cool about it. I've gotten a few "..." reactions from others who are still under the impression that the only reason people smoke e-cigs is to try and "kick the habit", lol. Like it's a nicotine patch or something.

Congrats! Peoples reaction to my vaping has been asking to try it generally lol. A few converts too which is cool. Regarding family, I get the distinction of being both "normal" and "rebellious" so I do what I want and let them figure it out. I explain things to them and am nice about it, but in the end as an independent adult their failure to understand isn't my emergency. If that sounds harsh, don't worry they make fun of me for it at every opportunity :D

Just kidding :) Ive never been one to ask for anyones approval on my decisions. Sometimes being the black sheep of the family has its privileges. Congrats on coming clean and taking a stand with your mom I know it couldnt have been easy.

Lol I'm sorta on the same boat.
My parents had an idea that I smoked ciggs but never witnessed. Told me to stop. Blah blah. Been vaping for 3-4months. I'm still hiding vaping from my parents. I feel its too much technology for them to understand.

See but there's so much comedy there once you open the floodgates! My parents would still be on dial up and AOL were it not for their know it all kids!

My wife, who is still smoking analogs, has not come around to join me on my new hobby. She is still concerned that vaping might carry iys own unique dangers despite the benefits that I have recieved from not smoking tobacco for three months. Personally I have decided to let her decide on her own. She is debating quitting soon but still thinks that the patch or gum or lozenge is the way she wants to go. It is possible that once she does her own research she will decide to give vaping some seriouc consideration and we can explore this hobby together. That would be nice because I have converted some coworkers to vaping but I vape alone outside of the work environment. I do hope that vaping grows in popularity and more people give it a try and see if it works for them. Worked for me!

Congrats on making the switch Paulette...I'm sure your lungs are much happier these days!
I certainly wish I could get my dad to quit smoking cigarettes. He's been sucking menthols for about 30 years. I've been thinking of mailing him a menthol Njoy King or something with just a note that says "thank me later" but he's so set in his ways, he'll probably find some reason not to like it. And then there's the whole problem of, what if he likes it? He doesn't even own a computer, so he'd need to find a brick and mortar store to get kitted out properly.

Wondertwin: that's cool that you've gotten some people to switch to vaping. I kind of feel a sense of responsibility to spread the word to smokers I know that there's a better way! People are stubborn though. Like you, I feel like, I'm a grown adult...why should I have to hamper the choices I make simply because my family do not understand or agree? Within reason, of course. I'm not out to offend anyone, either, and out of respect for many people in my family, I choose to keep a lot of things to myself. It's different when they live under the same roof, though. It's nice to be free in your own home!

For sure, I do respect my parents way of doing things at their house, and would probably vape outside just as a show of that. As I make fun of them through the kitchen window they always leave open :p They were pretty strict when I was growing up and rationalize it as harmless backlash. I just enjoy getting their goat. Last time I talked to my mom she was buttering corn to foil and grill, I asked her if she churned it like a good woman and she told me she writes down all my transgressions with her quill so she can remember to make me sleep in the outhouse when I visit! They give as good as they get so it's on!

Hoping that your wife does come around! I have a friend who vaped for almost 2 years before his wife finally gave it a go and that's been about 5 months ago. She loves it and is constantly "stealing" his provari!

Congrats on getting that out there! My wife and I both quit smoking analogs after 13 years. I gave vaping a go around a couple years ago with a KR808D and stopped analogs for 6 months before relapsing. New year+new resolution+better equipment= done for good this time. Both of us are turning 30 this year and we have 3 kids which was our biggest motivation. My family and friends are incredibly supportive and since making the switch I have managed to convert 3 of my employees and a couple of my close friends which is awesome. 2 weeks in and never looking back!

The patches didn't work for me. I think I could have stuck an entire box on my body and it wouldn't have mattered. The gum works, but it was just as addicting as cigarettes for me. I chewed a box of gum a week for 2 years before I started vaping.

What I took from your reply is that I need to buy a Provari. Can't disagree!

Interestingly enough, my dad suggested I start vaping instead of smoking. I say "interesting" because my dad is a medical doctor. In his opinion vaping is great. He even bought himself a e-pipe. I've been vaping for a little over a year now and he loves it. I used to be a 2 pack a day smoker so I think it's more relief than anything.

Getting mom to accept that you are out of the closet is one thing. Don't expect her to join you at the Vape Pride Parade any time soon. :D

ROFL! We're here! We're clear! Our lungs that is, LOL. Yeah, I'm satisfied enough that she knows about it and doesn't hate me for doing it. If I'd started smoking again it would be a whole different story. I've had a history of lung diseases anyway (whooping cough TWICE, TB when I was 16, Pneumonia a ton of times, bronchitis...) so I'd be insane to inhale any more smoke into my lungs. Now that I'm enjoying vaping, the idea of smoking seems ridiculous!
