My sense of smell has always been too acute. I used to joke that I smoked so that I could bear the world. Having my sense of smell return to it's full function is my LEAST favorite side effect from switching to e-cigs. I complained to my husband that I wish there was a way to trade in some of my excess smell sense for some additional sight sense. It sucks being near-sighted and smelling my dogs stinky breath from 6 feet away.

It could be worse Rebecca...I have now gotten to the age where I am both near-sighted and far-sighted. I have to go to the eye doctor, but I'm putting it off because I don't want to wear bifocals :).

I suppose I really could smell all the same things when I smoked. City streets and dog s*** always smelled. It's just that I notice them more now, and I'm caught by surprise at how much more often I sense these odors.

I suppose beauty really is in the eye of the beholder 'cause my dog's odors are good because they remind me of her, while perfume is just another bad chemical smell to me. I really did notice cigarettes at first. Odd to be able to smell them so far away. I suppose the stale smoke on my students' clothes doesn't smell good (again suprising to notice it), but I really don't mind the smell of a burning cigarette. Maybe I'm just motivated not to become one of those former smokers that hates smoke worse than a lifetime non-smoker.

I'm probably not far behind you. Maybe I should "sniff" us out an eye doctor and we could request a group discount!

very funny and true! I'll give it my vote too.

Yep gets my vote as well:thumb:

Yes there are a lot of crap smells, but the sweet smell of a woman by far beats them hands down!! Walking through the office has never smelt so good;)

I don't mind the burning cigarette smell at all. I just hate the stale smoke smell. Maybe it's just because I never noticed it until I quit smoking.

Same here. I actually rather like the smell of a burning cigarette, but I hadn't noticed the smell of stale smoke until after recently (just started vaping about 2 weeks ago), and boy does that stuff smell bad - and pungent too! That's the part that really got me. Stale smoke doesn't just smell, but it's a very noticeable smell.

Oh my! I can sooo relate to all of your stories, it's funny the things we didn't notice or seem to bother us when we smoked, eh. My dog's breath is horid, she's so sweet, and I love her to death, but if she so much as yawned outside in the yard, her breath could drop a flock of birds from the sky, And I never noticed this before? hmmmph!

She likes to sleep in our room at night, Now that my sense of smell has returned, I spent the last two nights sleeping with the blankets over my head, so I could sleep. Her breath is sooo bad ,GAg, how do I kill that problem? What can buy and where do I buy it? Breath biskits don't work!

But there has been other good smells too, fresh cut grass, rain, and foods cooking, etc. But seems there are waaaay more bad smells I didn't pick up on before til now, and I'm constantly checking my clothes, hands, breath, hair, etc, for odors, kinda made me more self-conscious after noticing all the new smells coming from passers' by, whoo. some colognes/ hair sprays, perfumes, garlic, and ??? are enough to make your eye's water!

You know, my dog's breath doesn't smell bad at all. I think that's because she doesn't chew her food, but just swallows it whole. I give her Meaty Bone dog biscuts everytime she eat too. That's about the only thing she actually chews. You might try brushing your dog's teeth. I do that at times. They make doggy style tooth-brushes and meat tasting tooth paste. It's kind of a pain, but if you really want to improve breath odor that seems the logical course.

ROFL...are you serious! "meat tasting tooth paste"? How mercy, don't they have like "minty fresh".... or uh, "Scope" flavored? hee, seems like that would work better and definitely smell better than meat flavored. She gets plenty of meat flavored stuff at supper, lol. I'd have to do this every single time she eats, and I'd probably faint! before I got started. lol.

I've been mixing about half of can of Alpo, w/ her dry food, Think I'll try giving her dry food only for awhile instead, but thanks, I'll have to think about that one. lol. meat flavored toothpaste for dogs.,...hummmph!, Wonder who came up with that one?

Our dog's mouth use to smell a lot like his other end. I know what you are talking about. I found some stuff called PetzLife Oral Care Gel, a little spendy but works really good. You can just google it.

Thanks guys, I'll have to check that one out too. Maybe between brushing like Dave suggested with this product, it'll take care of it, lol

After recently having dinner with my father, (who still smokes) I realized how much I'd put my non-smoking husband through in the last 8.5 years. Now that I have my sense of smell back, I was amazed at how much the smell of stale smoke stinks.
It's worth it, though; I had forgotten what it smells like after rain. I went outside after a storm last night and that wonderful smell brought tears to my eyes; I hadn't smelled anything like that in ten years. :)

My first scottie had breath that would stop a dragon. I started giving her rawhide compressed bones; she gnawed for ages on them and loved doing it. Within a very short time, her teeth were once again sparkling white and her breath was odorless again. I started my new scottie puppy out on them and they are a nightly ritual. Her vet says she has beautiful, healthy teeth at the age of 6. I get the compressed rawhide because scotties have iron jaws and can shred anything so they hold up better. Supervise, though, because a hunk swallowed can cause an obstruction. We've done the toothbrushing route and it's hit or miss because it's hard to get all the surfaces thoroughly.
