I can't be the only one that thinks the name of this area of the forum is odd...

When I found this forum, it was by searching for "e cigarette forum". I didn't know then there was something called "vaping". I dislike the term ecig, but it is what brings the new folks into this world. Was for me anyways. I still have the V2 starter kit to prove it :)

You're not understanding Mikie, and it would take too long to explain it to you. I'll just say this, the forum could be called big metal stick forum, and your search for "e cigarette forum" would have still brought you here if the owners of the site were doing the proper Search Engine Optimization.

I see... sorry to have bothered you so much. I do understand SEO btw, no explanation needed. maybe you should start your own forum named big metal stick, using SEO. This site is established so I am not sure why it needs to be changed.

Waitaminute.... did I get sucked into some mundane debate? Why yes, yes I did... lulz

If you do understand SEO, as you say, then what is the mundane debate you speak of? Are you saying SEO doesn't work? Are you saying the name of the forum is paramount to the search algorithm? Which of my points are you debating, exactly?

I'm more intrigued by the fact that recurring thread themes don't get merged and stickied around here, and even moreso that something that is a recurring request (and a rather reasonable one, at that) goes on being ignored.

ECF does not have near enough staff to merge like threads. To efficiently do it you would need 50 times the people that are on staff now. Moreover, the staff are volunteers with limited time and more important issues to deal with. If such topics were "stickied" as you suggest the first 30 pages of every section would be "stickies".

In addition, merging threads is a messy business that often results in thread whose conversational flow is completely destroyed resulting in an unreadable pile of nonsense. Not unlike this thread.

Also do not mistake failure to comply with your request or suggestion for being ignored. Sometimes the answer to a request or suggestion is "no".

Not debating anything my friend. You are right, you win. Feel good about yourself. You achieved a great victory here tonight by pointing out how proper SEO could allow the mods to spend time changing things about their forum, Mundane things.... You win!!!!!

I'm just a bit embarrassed to say this but anytime I'm asked about the mod I'm using when out and about, usually my cool fire II or the 134, I'll tell 'em it's an e-cig on steroids for the lack of a better description. Everyone understands what an e-cig is. If I tell them it's a personal vaporisor I get a blank stare.

And I dislike the e-cig term hugely!

The name of the site has very little to do with search engine algorithms.
That's right, it's the content within and the number of clicks is what contributes to many algorithms used to populate results. But still, I don't e-smoke, I vape. If they called it general-e-vaping-discussion I could more relate. I totally agree with the OP. My 2 cents, vape on! Braaaaaaap!

LMAO Honestly I never even noticed this until seeing this thread and I've been a member for a few months now. I mean sure I seen how it reads but it never clicked that the dreaded "smoking" word was being used. AND, this is the first thread I've come across that mentions this paradox. Wonder what the heck I've been doing this whole time to have never seen these things before. Wait a minute... I just realized this means little to nothing to me. Good bye.

one of my 1st threads asked this very question. If my memory serves me correctly, moderators did respond, and they said (I think?) that e-SMOKING is less confusing for new vapers, so it wouldn't be changed. Idk, you can find my thread. Or I can find it if I see this thread when I have a larger stretch of free time.

In New Jersey, a very Anti vaping state, all of the legislation vape related is referred to as e smoking. The antis do this to brainwash the general public into correlating vaping as smoking. I think it sucks and am reminded of all the antis every time I see the sub forum name. Should be changed imo, as it is counterproductive to our cause.

You know what... I do see the point on merging threads, as it is pretty time consuming to do it right. I've had to do it myself before.

Are there really so many recurring themes as to take up 30 pages, or is that a bit of hyperbole?

I'm sorry if you find this thread to be nonsense. I do see multiple concurrent discussions going on, but I'm able to compartmentalize and distinguish them much easier than I could, were this occurring in real time.

If it is a no, the answer of no is not the difficult thing here so much as the absence of an intelligent reason for it.

For example, I read the explanation as to why we do not discuss illicit substances being used in apv's around here. It makes sense and it makes it much easier to respect the decision.

I found out that the domain vaping-forum.com is available (vapingforum.com is already taken), so I grabbed it up before anyone else does in case the ECF owners ever want to switch. I would donate it and transfer it to them.

You can change domain names without losing any search engine rankings if you set up the proper redirects from the old domain to the new domain. I could assist ECF with this as well. (I'm a webserver and database administrator, PHP programmer, and have experience migrating domains).

If the ECF staff would like to go forward with this they can contact me.
