Hi CShaver.
I understand why you are mad at yourself. Unlike many, I actually think it is a big deal. Even if the cigarette, in that moment, might be the only thing able to calm you, in the longer run it makes staying clear of tobacco more difficult. It is perfectly understandable why it happened. Past memories and imagining the relief that would ensue can easily tip the balance in those critical moments just before taking the puff of a cigarette. There is nothing like the instantaneous nicotine rush. It's just the way the chemistry of that route of administration works. What makes it more difficult to stay tobacco-free is the new memory is the new memory that we create with each "slip". That's why I think it is important to know what to do if we find ourselves in a critical situation. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have high nicotine e-liquid available - or, worse, no e-cig with me. I just know, having been a smoker in the past, I am a life-long addict and that my mind will come up with mental tricks in the worst situations. Ciggies calm us down because we are technically in withdrawal, not because of any calming properties in ciggies themselves.

Wish you all the best back on the wagon again!

Hi CShaver.

That's the line that anti-smoking people have been using for awhile, and it isn't true. Tobacco contains many alkaloids that give a relaxing and calming sensation. Nicotine isn't the only thing in cigarettes.

Now I'm sure most long-time smokers no longer get the feeling they first did when having a cig, maybe that's what you were referring to, but either way tobacco smoke has real intoxicating effects, not just some placebo of curing your withdrawals tricking you into feeling relaxed.

OP,

As others said, don't focus on the cig you smoked, focus on the ones you didn't. You're still winning :)

If you haven't already, you should really look into WTA juice for those frustrating situations. WTA gives you all (or most) of the alkaloids present in tobacco, not just nicotine, for a more well-rounded feel. From the sample I tried it definitely gave that relaxing, pressure release valve type feeling a cig would give.

Nicotine, for me at least, just makes frustrating situations worse. I love the stimulant effects of nicotine (and vaping pure nic is far more of a stimulant than a cig, at least to me) as well as the concentration and general mood boost it gives you, but for relaxation or dealing with stressful situations it's the other alkaloids that I prefer.

A cig is a drug cocktail basically, and we are trying to replace it with only a portion of the big picture. For some it works just fine, for others who are more reliant/addicted to the other alkaloids than just pure nic we need something more, and WTA seems to fill that need pretty well.

I have other things to vape if I need to relax, so I've given up on the WTA thing for now, but if your normal juice just isn't cutting it sometimes, it's well worth picking up a small bottle if you can find it, to use when you are on the verge of smoking.

I'd say 1288/1 isn't a bad ratio.

Think of it like once in a while when you walk through the yard and step in dog ****. You don't give up walking....you just clean off your shoe and try to be a little more careful.

Maybe keep a carto of high nic around just for those people who didn't get the memo.

I've heard WTA thrown around, but never actually looked into it. I will definitely look into it now.

Any recommendations on venders, flavors, etc?

I don't think I've ever heard such a good analogy. That's going to be my go-to saying now lmao

Last I heard there were only three places that make WTA juice.
The only one I can vouch for is Aroma E-Juice.

I use their Creme Brulee flavor.
I couldn't vape it all the time, but I don't need to.

It's all good man.... Don't beat yourself up over this.... it's just not worth it. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and climb back up on the wagon and continue on. You've learned a valuable lesson.... they stink, make you feel awful and now you know that..... Had you not been off the cigs you never would have. Maybe keeping some stronger nic juice in reserve for those stressful phone calls will help in the future. Give it a shot.... just don't give up!!

Thanks for all the encouragement guys!

Yeah, it really did taste nasty, but it worked. It calmed me down and I liked it for that reason. That's why I was beating myself up for it. I don't want to be rushing for a real cig every time I'm stressed.

I'll definitely be looking into that WTA juice, and I seriously hope it gives me the satisfaction that cig did today.

I absolutely hate the taste and smell, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't work lol.

WOW. Just noticed something. If you're at home right now, you're about 15 minutes away from me lol.

When I was a few months into vapeing every once in awhile I would have a day like yours. And I would do worse than bum one. I would go buy a pack! But you know, I'm glad I did. I would end up smoking a couple, in a moment of stress, then I would honestly remember how awful they really were! I would always calm down and toss the rest. After doing that a few times it taught me, there not what you want anymore. If I hadn't caved a time or two, I would believe I was missing something, now through experience I know better. What works for me now, although everyone is different. I always carry my dripper with me and a bottle of my favorite ejuice, Boba's. I always save that for the end of the day. But I carry it in case of a bad day, when vapeing peach just isn't going to cut it. Works for me anyway. In short, (I know, to late!) Use today as a learning experience, not a failure. And vape on!

For me, it's been a natural progression. I was lucky enough to hit a point where I really didn't have the desire to smoke anymore. Luckily, I discovered vaping at the same time. For the first 9 or so months, I'd have a drunken cigarette or 2 while I was out at the bar. Over time, those cigarettes got worse and worse to the point that I didn't want to even have them anymore. Don't beat yourself up. That desire to smoke will subside. I'm still addicted to nicotine and the oral fixation, but smoking just isn't part if my life anymore. It'll happen for you too.
