Maybe I should have called the thread "show me your rugged, manly mods"

This will be a disappointment for anyone who wanted to see something like gold plating...this is very, very simple.

Any idiot can spraypaint, right? Why post that I trashed a two week old chrome provari with black spraypaint?
Because...it's not spraypaint:

That's the flashlight I used to test with. It's plastidip spray. Comes in a few colors and it's as easy as spraypaint but will remove when you want. I still have to find my exacto knife to remove it from the screen, but I only did two coats as a test and I can see the screen through it a little.
Nothing Earth shattering, but I thought I would share. Gives it a little grip too. We will see how it holds up. They also have glossy and metallic overlays in a couple colors. You could do a white base and a gold metallic finisher to get a really different look.

Cool idea... i got one of the Black chrome Provaris too. But i like the finish... i could use this trick on my Mini which has a few fall blemishes on it....

If I waited and got black chrome, I might not have. This was regular "look at the fingerprints" chrome. Lovely, but I wanted to try this.

Even if the next round of blems is pink I won't worry if I decide to get another.

It's a great option! Lots of car modders are using this to decal their cars or cover the chrome trim & emblems on their cars.

Intentional. Easier to cut away than to mask the screen

Not sure how long it will last and look good, I hope a while.

That sort of sucks as I was coming back to advise against it. With two coats it is obvious it won't last. Maybe with 4 or 5 coats...but two won't cut it and I don't know if more would. You think the people from General are going to see this?

I looking for this exact idea......Home Depot sells this stuff for $6.

I am wanting to do this to my chrome Lavatube.
How runny is the spray, is there a danger of it running into the tube where the buttons are?

p.s : Wanting to do this because I really wanted to buy the black version Lavatube, but only the chrome YoungJune version had the recessed drip well for more Ego device compatibilities. Chrome looks nice, but only until I touch it.

It's not runny, spray a few light coats from 6-8 inches. I screwed in an old carto and masked the top off. I also masked the button. Cut away the masking with a razor.

If I do it again, I will use no less than 4 coats. Two didn't last long.
