But I would really like to understand some of the reasons why more people don't read this subforum...
Electronic Cigarette News and Campaigning

I consider it THE most important subforum here.
And I wish every vaper was reading it no matter what they believe.

I am afraid this could get very contentious, and I would like to beg that people try to stay away from inflammatory posts in THIS thread.

I want to hear about why people may not be participating in the fight to protect electronic cigarettes.
But I am afraid that some of the answers will turn political, or get into issues of respect and manners and the like.

I hope that in this one thread, for one time only, we can let people post their opposing viewpoints without refutation.
Otherwise this thread will blow up quickly.

Again, I just want to understand, and let those that avoid that subforum give their thoughts without being attacked in any way.
Maybe we can all learn something from each other?

I predict this will be one of my least successful threads.
But I had to try.
:)

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Any particular reason?
Or just shy?
:)
In general, I'm not interested in spending time defending or arguing my viewpoint or position. Life is too short to spin my wheels.

Like you said, so many of the threads just "go off the cliff". I'm much more interested in learning and passing along what I've learned. There are many forums here on ECF that I can do this.

I sure hope so!

I'm in for the fight, I just don't like fighting about seating arrangements or being stomped on because I don't conform to the norm of the posters there. I admit I haven't kept up as much as I should after all the BS Calif. tried to pull last summer (spring, wasn't it?). I also get tired of hearing how awful Calif. is and we deserve what we get, granted those folks think Calif. is only comprised of LA and SF. It just gets old. I'm keeping my eyes and ears open while on R&R until the next session gets the politicians all full of themselves again. I do admire those of you that can carry on day in and day out with all that crap. :toast:

Thank you for your honest response.

If you're reading then you are doing a good thing.
If you are taking your own approach to doing what is right, then you are doing a good thing.

Doing good things is good.

I read it all the time - even subscribed to many threads and befriended active posters in that sub just so I can keep abreast. I find that I post only rarely, however. Mostly, it's because the threads usually start with a broadcast of information of some sort, followed by statements of outrage/support - the OP usually contains some useful bit of info or a CTA, the ensuing discussion often not so much (at least, it doesn't entice me to respond, generally). Some people like political discussion. I tend to like political/policy/action information.

As I said, however, having the subforum is vital to this community and I do pay close attention to it.

I'm glad someone asked this question DC2. I have talked to several people about ECF in general in vape shops and once about that sub-forum in particular. People have many reasons to not ECF but one common thing came up with each - some of the people who post ruin the environment.

That sub-forum has those who will argue just for the sake of arguing. There are also those who blur the line between attacking the post and not the poster as a general habit. There are also those who will use the very same tactics of either the politicians or the talking heads who you see on TV or hear on the radio (those tactics are used on both sides - political and topics here). Usually those people won't engage in political discussions in that sub-forum or in real life.

I never read that sub forum but I'm going to take a look at it now. I should look around this forum more, but there's so much of it. And so many shopping sites to visit as well.

As far as participating in the fight goes, there are a lot of different ways to do that. Right now all I do is talk to people one on one. You talked above about the infighting. That's part of the reason I stay out of organized action, in general not just around vaping. Organisation has to be a part of it though if we are going to win.

But I don't have much patience for the messy stuff these days. All that "you're an idiot, where's the proof, I gave you proof, no you didn't, your proof is stupid, only a ****** would fall for that". Some people are good at dealing with it and know how to extract positive outcomes from all the energy. I should probably make an effort to be supportive. I do owe a lot to the world of vaping. Right now I'm sitting back and letting other people do the heavy lifting for me.

OK, you succeeded in guilting me out. Hope you're happy.

It is a very strongly opinionated area, and I hope I haven't contributed to ruining that environment.
But I suspect, in moments of weakness, I have done so myself.

But it's such an important subforum for all of us.
I hope we can get to a point of mutual consent as to what we are ALL trying to do together, not apart.

Generally speaking though this forum is an oasis of calm compared to the web in general. The forum bosses do a great job of keeping the trolls at bay. Just read the comments sections on some of the youtube videos. But if moderation is taken too far it sucks the juice out of the discussion and all you have left is a handful of people being nice to each other.

For something as intrinsically controversial as vaping I think the Mods have done an amazing job. Congrats people.

Before I came here five years ago, I spent about five years (daily) on a Padres baseball forum.
This is like a walk through Candyland compared to that!

I look through that forum pretty regularly and appreciate the information that's available, but I'm also involved in a number of other politically charged issues that already consume far too much of my debating/arguing time and energy. Perhaps with a bit more vaping experience I'll feel compelled to contribute.
