I don't know, but that is scary. Maybe a weakness in the glass? In canning we leave 1/4inch to 1/2 inch head space to allow for goods to expand and non track. Also in canning, you need to be very care full about glass that has been damaged. Why is plastic not a good idea?
It would have prevented this issue. Ball freezer containers for canning are designed to go intothe freezer and take high heat?
