I got pulled out of a crowd at a concert to be asked "What are you inhaling?"

I'm curious about what some of the responses vapers give when asked in a public setting. In other words, how do you explain it? I haven't vaped in public yet because I don't want people to think I'm smoking.

Get a bettery battery PV such as the Darwin, ProVari, REO, GLV2 or Infinity and they won't think that. Another big advantage to a better battery device to go along with superior performance.

I think we should all start using the term "personal vaporizer" or anything other than a description with the word "cigarette" in it as much as possible. The farther we get away from that association, the better.

I tried calling it a personal vaporizer once and that just made the person think I was doing drugs. Vaporizers are commonly used to inhale marajuana vapor. I think there should be a PV that looks like an asthma inhaler. If you go around puffing on one of those no one would say anything!

That is the number one reason I bought a Darwin. I also use a tank and that helps even more. I bet I’ve had 10 people ask if my doctor prescribed that machine and I tell them it’s a PV and is doctor approved.

I feel the same way about my Darwin. The few who are unsure what a personal vaporizer is after I use that term, I just follow up with "it's my doctor approved method to not smoke", which is true as my doctor is thrilled with my use of a PV.

I'm not concerned about the device itself. I have an eGo, and it's obviously not a cigarette. I was thinking more about the puff of vapor that will invariably lead others to think that I'm smoking. How do some of you explain it when questioned in a restaurant, or airport, or bar?

I explain that what is exhailed is actually mostly water vapor with a small amount of glycerin and flavoring....no more dangerous than your grandmother making hard candy and her little grandchildren standing around the stove absorbing all the wounderfull smells, just waiting for the candy to be cool enough to eat........

why not just stealth by holding in longer during those questionable situations? I know I am one of those "I can do it anywhere" types but I try to be smart about it an hold it in till I know the vapor will not be visible an that helps avoids some of the questions.
I was wandering myself.... I don't vape too often in pubic but if I'm inside for 2 hours or so. I will take 2 or 3 causal hits and hold in in till I'm sure the cloud wont be there.

My only experience of puffing out clouds I was told too by management. (posted below)
Walmart Manger just demanded I vape in her store!
I have my ego slung around my neck everywhere I go on a lanyard. She saw it in the store (I was not using it) and wanted to know what I was carrying. All I could manage to say in reply to what seamed an angry request was to say Nicotine meekly. She then says "really I want to see, take a drag". And I'm like hell no you'll get me kicked out of here. Yada yada vapor not smoke spiel. Her reply "not by me". lol so there I was in Walmart vaping away in front of the manger getting weird stairs form customers that could do nothing about it. I was scared sh!tless don't plain to show off my "clouds" in this small hick town. no telling who will fallow you home.....

I've never really been thrown out of anywhere over it, but I've been asked many upon many times about the devices. I tell them that it's the electronic cigarette and the common response I get is, "Oh, it's one of them fake cigarettes." Generally, I tell them that theres nothing fake about it and helping thousands to avoid the harmful effects of cigarettes. I usually get pretty positive responses from folks about it.

I was in a ballpark one night (Camden Yards), very close to, but not quite in the smoking section and I was vaping away. One of the guards came up to me and said that I was not allowed to smoke in the area where I was standing. I told the guard that I was using an electronic cigarette and she gave me the go ahead to use it anywhere I wished in the entire stadium. I did not use it in the stands, but I felt much better that we are making headway in getting people educated in what we are using.

My typical Canadian attitude is that I want to ask or at least discuss the vaping thing before using it in any place where smoking is not allowed. I just don't want to confuse people or possibly get a staff member in trouble when someone (mistakenly) reports them for not having caught the 'smoker' they claimed to have spotted.

Anyways, having said that, I like what a lot of you are doing in that you are first surprising the waiter/bouncer/managers but then using it as a good opportunity to then explain what is happening.

One funny experience (well not so fun) I had was vaping in a designated smoking area and the conversation is me explain how it is not smoking.
She wrinkles a sort of 'gimme a break phht' face and stabs back "Well.. it IS the same thing after all".
"No, it is not anywhere NEAR it. completely different" I inform.
Annoyed I'm playing a 'word game' she punches back "Uh.. regardless.. same thing".
"No, it is definitely no relation whatsoever and absolutely NO smoke"
Now peeved I'm 'being cheeky' and actually dragging out her patience she is ready to slap me I think. I put it this way.
"Its cold out today. See that smoke coming out of your mouth?"
(now I'm so stupid and actually insulting HER intelligence) "What. exhaling is NATURAL its just cold air and warm breath".
Me "Yes. Exactly. Is that the same thing as smoking?"
Her.. "well listen okay.. you keep smoking and call it what you like gahhhh phhhtttt".

But i think the good news is that most people not only become curious and very accepting they also 'get it' right away and even seem to be quickly in favour AND often (if they smoke or a family member) want to know where to get one themselves!

But yeah.. wow.. there are some people who just do NOT get it.

It's only been 2 weeks since I started vaping, but I have yet to do it in a public area. I have a fear of strangers staring or coming up to me or management giving me a hard time. I do get to vape around non-smoking family members and they all approve of it. They keep congratulating me for quitting smoking. I realize I'm not technically smoking, but using this I don't feel like a quitter. I feel like I should be suffering with nicotine withdrawals and moodswings and nothing for the hand-to-mouth action. I'm not missing anything about cigarettes.

As in Dave's video, if you smoke a look-a-like with a glowing red end and puff out clouds of vapour, you are going to get challenged. On the other hand, use something like a stainless steel baseball bat, and keep the vapour down, no one will raise an eyebrow. I think it's because they assume it's some sort of medical device and don't like to draw attention to it, like as if you are using a crutch or a wheelchair.

I only Vape in private indoors otherwise i vape where smoking is allowed and try to educate the smokers on what I am doing. The non-smokers don't seem to care and if 1 person in an establishment is offended and complians you will be asked to refrian or leave. I feel openly vaping in non-smoking areas will only hurt the vaping community as a whole in the long run... You can already see it happening.
Some counties/cities are adding e-cigs to there no smoking bylaws and airline carriers are also posting no e-cigs allowed.:(

If you think vaping should only occur in smoking areas, then your actions are saying to everyone: vaping is dangerous and is the same as burning tobacco - stay far away from me, what I do is harmful. The "anti" zealots love for us to prove that they are right.

 +1 WV. This statement should be a sticky.

Read a post last night about a new PV that is coming to market that doesn't produce vapor. Can't wait to see what the zealots do with that news.

Thanks, SC. Please provide a post when you get more info on this new PV. You've "peaked" my interest.
