I got pulled out of a crowd at a concert to be asked "What are you inhaling?"

Thanks, SC. Please provide a post when you get more info on this new PV. You've "peaked" my interest.

For some reason ECF won't let this link post but here is the company...Smokefree-Innotec.

I'm sure it will cost a mint and why go to all that trouble and have it look like a cigarette?
I do like the idea of no vapor if nothing else than to PO the nazi’s.

I turned to vaping for one reason and one reason only. To replace my addiction to cigarettes. When I was a smoker I had to learn to control my impulses. I couldn't smoke at work, in public places and in many areas outside, where I would subject people to second hand smoke. When I replaced a PV for cigarettes, I continued the same practice. I didn't feel that vaping gave me a license to vape anywhere nor did I want to expose my hand to mouth addiction to associates and the public at large. I continue to exercise that element of personal control over my habit that I learned conforming to smoking restrictions. Why would one want to give up that element of self control learned so hard when your smoking was restricted? When you're blowing clouds of vapor that has a distinctive odor around a crowded room and expect people to accept it, you are going against the human perspective that says "If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck and walks like a duck..........then It's a duck, no matter wnat you call it." This is the mindset that gets PVs banned by local ordinance.

Sorry...try this...A porpoise looks like a fish, acts like a fish and swims like a fish but it isn't a fish and vaping is not a duck.

YIPEE!!! Home at last
I am very torn by this subject..... I see the point of view about not vaping where you could not smoke.... with that being said, I have a couple co workers that I work with every weekend, They are sympathetic to my nic addiction (not easy to find in my field) but if I had not asked them I would have had the same problem I had before .... sneaking out for smoke breaks..... not only difficult but not all that safe for my clients either. I have to walk off a 1 acre property to accomplish the "smoke break". I know they show sympathy for my addiction and there are no bosses here on the weekend so that is no issue. I also think they like that I no longer leave the building. So I guess maybe a compromise is in order.... ask permission, it does not have to be all or nothing. I am to old to still be in a rebellion phase I am over that. Much like situations I will ask before I do something if for no other reason for the sake of manners. I have a friend who does not drink and does not have an issue being around drinkers but I always ask first just to be nice. Rebellion and rudeness is not necessary but it also is not a priority to hide. Bring the truth into the light and see how it fares.

No disrespect intended, but.....
You'll be taking on the mantle of Don Quixote trying to sell that to the average public. But go ahead, tilt all the windmills you want. My point was and is that you've already learned the hard way from smoking analogs not to expose your addiction in general public places. Just because you've changed to e-cigs, why would you want to take a step back and expose your personal foibles to associates and peers? I for one keep my addiction to nicotine and my psychological addiction to stuffing my mouth with something every 10 minutes to a semi private endeavor. You and others can shove it in anybody's face you care to and then explain how a porpoise is not a fish and your right to blow fumes around the room is not smoking. Keep wondering why there is a knee-jerk reaction from local governments to ban e-cigs in public while determining their safety for general use. But whatever you do, stay far away from analogs, forever. :)

Well, speaking personally, I've found that when I vape in public (and no, I don't shove it in people's face, but I do vape at restaurants, even expensive restaurants in Beverly Hills) I've had numerous people come up to me and want to know what that was, and if it works to help quit smoking.

I can't tell you how many people have indicated an interest, asked where they could purchase one, etc. etc.

I've had ZERO people complain about my vaping, but again, I am courteous... I sit near the patio or on the patio if available, I blow my vap towards the ground or away from people, try to sit away from other people, but I do NOT treat vaping as the same as smoking!

Until MORE people take up vaping, we as e-cig users are more suseptable to gov.t regulation. As our numbers increase, as more and more people can tell stories about how it helped them, or their brother or sister or aunt to switch from cigs, the more power we have to make sure we are not treated like tobacco, and over regulated.

Many local city municipalities make money from taxing tobacco. There are also very strong tobacco lobbyists, that certainly do NOT want something that may actually make quitting cigarettes easily available.

Only by increasing our numbers will people eventually understand that vap is NOT smoke, and that while they may look the same, they are certainly NOT the same!

Hiding in a closet to vap may keep you from the occasional smoke nazi, or from occasional stress from unreasonable people, but it certainly wont' bring vapping out into the mainstream, and increase our numbers. Or help save people's lives!

Maybe it has to do with the tolerance level of where you live? However, as I've said, I've vaped at Disneyland, restaurants, movie theaters, airport terminals, all out in the open and NOT ONCE had anyone come up and complain! I've had 10-15 people come up and ask about it, with the intent to start trying one out, or telling a friend/family member who badly wants to quit smoking!

I'm not telling you or anyone to vap in public, if they're uncomfortable, but it's not as black and white as you'd like to make it out to be!

I do not vap at my childrens school, I don't vap around small children... I don't vap everywhere, but I certainly DO NOT treat it as if it were a cigarette.

It's not.

One last thing.

If my vapping in public exposes just ONE person who has a nicotine monkey on his/her back, and allows them to quit smoking tobacco, and perhaps saves their life, then it's certainly worth it! You may feel this is an exageration, but I can tell you that the way I would wake up in the morning, hacking away, coughing all day, if I didn't quit smoking I really believe it was going to eventually kill me, and it wouldn't take that long! (I'm a 35+ year smoker)

I TRIED patches... I TRIED gum, lozenges... they did NOT work.

Vapping has worked.

If I only introduce ONE person to vapping, who's life may be saved by their being exposed to my vapping each year that I vap out in the open, it's worth it.

To hell with smoke nazi's and uninformed people. They're NOT my problem!

And converting people to vaping is not my problem either.

Then don't.

But I don't need you to tell ME that I shouldn't!

Hey.. stay in the closet, or only vap at home, or wherever you want!

Me? I'll vap where it's LEGAL, and where it isn't going to bother anyone, unless it's in their head.... then it's their problem, not mine.

I do happen to get a great deal of pleasure introducing people who WANT to quit to a great, easy way of doing it, and those I've introduced to vaping, who HAVE quit smoking, have been very grateful and appreciative, but that doesn't mean YOU need to share helpful info with anyone!

Do what you want, just don't judge others too harshly for them doing what THEY believe is correct. (Not saying YOU specifically)

Last thing. I don't vap in public because I'm on some mission to spread the word! Not so altruistic, unfortunately.

I vap in public because I LIKE to vap, and it's legal. Sorry... I'm not going to allow ignorance to keep me from vaping, and fortunately, I haven't been exposed to ignorant people when I vap, in the Los Angeles area.

Believe me, I'm not trying to start a pi$$ing match with you and I don't know how you got the impression that I'm telling anyone what they should do or shouldn't do. I don't recall using the dreaded "should" word once in my posts. I think you missed the main point of my post, which was, why would you or anyone want to regress backwards and show their addiction in places where they kept it off the table with analogs? Lets be perfectly honest here. Nicotine addiction and the psychological addiction to stuffing something in your mouth for instant gratification is a character flaw. It's no different that stuffing your face with food to the point of obesity. Smokers are not victims, they are slaves to their own devices and of their own making. Society has forced smokers to keep their habit out of public view and exposure. My point of view(and it's only my point of view to add to this discussion) is why would you want to regress and expose this particular character flaw to associates and peers when you've already progressed beyond that point with analogs due to societal pressure? That's all I'm really trying to say.

On another hand, though, sometimes a PV is the perfect thing to deal with the farters. The other day, I was in Borders Books, and since they are having a huge sale, I grabbed a huge stack of books and searched for a chair. After lugging an armful of books all around the store, I finally found a seat and a stool to set my books on so that I could page through and pick a few out. Within moments, some old cat stopped no more than 4 feet a way from me and let one fly. A real brap-a-lap-lap, too. I couldn't believe it, I was just in shock. It was bad, bad stuff. Vincent Price in black-and-white bad. Some real :censored: :censored: foul :censored:! I was like ":censored: :censored:, you're :censored: killing me. :censored:"

I'd say that I was fuming, but it wasn't me, it was dude, and I was dying in it. Some :censored: Glen Beck :censored:.

As I wiped the tears from my eyes, I had a MacGuyver moment. As much as I wanted to run away screaming, I had a tool with me to combat the stench of death that I was being assaulted with: my PV. I boiled at least a ml within moments, pushed my atty to the limits of tolerance, damn near burnt a finger off, but within moments, I could breath easy once again.

I was a little grossed out at the concept of intentionally inhaling dude's exhaust through my PV, but every now and again, you got suck it up just so that you can breath easy.

I laughed so much I got tears oh my face hurts!!!

Actions always speak louder than words. Your actions clearly state that vaping is as dangerous as smoking and should be banned completely. Perception is reality and the perception you present is one that vaping is just as dangerous as smoking. And no one has suggested that you blow vaper in others faces. You would make a good poster image for the "quit or die" zealots.

I suggest you display some manners and refrain from your personal attack on me in attempting to pursue your agenda. The OP is about opinions on vaping in public. I gave my opinion based on experience and my perception. I attacked no one nor did I make aspersions on their character as you have of me. I don't care how many posts you have or how long you've been around this board, from my point of view you are rude and your false depiction of me is inaccurate and distasteful. Mind your manners, sunshine.

I think there is a "middle ground" that we should follow. First and foremost, be respectful but be prepared to educate any and all about vaping. I am firmly AGAINST those who state we should only vape where the smokers, smoke. If we ACT like vaping is the same as smoking, then it will RIGHTFULLY be perceived as just as dangereous as smoking and should be banned. I think using good common sense, such as Codex's example, is a good idea. I vape in a resturant but tell the waiter or manager first what it is and I don't blow plumb's of vaper. Most people don't even notice. I also believe it is a benefit that I don't use PV's that look like analogs. I hope the time comes when most PV's don't look like analogs to further distance ourselves from smokers and our past.

I agree! I try not to go to a smoking area, unless I happen to be WITH someone smoking analogs. But I don't automatically start vaping anywhere either. I do my best to educate people. I also make it a point to take several different type of PVs with clean (sterilized) tips to give them a chance to try it if they are interested. "Knock on wood" I have yet to be complained about and only once did someone say that they prefer I not do it around them (I try to always ask people close by). I have also "converted" at least 35 people to PVs and educated hundreds of others on PVs. Education is the key to this! The more people that understand PVs the less people that will be up in arms to outlaw them.

“No disrespect intended, but.....” Old trick but it doesn’t work here….Disrespect taken….

Condescension becomes rude and boring when overdone and that is what I get from your post.
I would also disagree with one of your later statements that you do not make aspersions on other folk’s character. In my opinion your posts indicate otherwise.
A case in point would be your response to my opinion that the age old, worn out ‘Duck” analogy can be countered with different analogy that is closer to the truth. Your response was condescending, haughty and loaded with assumptions of how I think and conduct myself. Perhaps if you knew me personally your post would carry more weight but since you don’t your assumptions are absurd.
