This reminds me of an experience I had when I was in my 20's (a loooong time ago).
I was at a convenience store buying cigarettes and another gal around my age commented snarkily, "you need to quit those things or they will kill you".
I looked at her annoyed at first but guffawed a bit because I noticed when she opened her mouth to speak it was full of rotten teeth from, I assume, the cumulative effect of all of the penny candy and sodas she was about to pay for.
Habit/ritual/addiction is part of the Human Condition, for better or worse. Anyone who rags on about my habit I'm sure if I look close enough, I will be able to find theirs.

I can't for the life of me understand how ex-smokers who quit cold-turkey can get high and mighty about something like this.

Regardless of how we did it, both parties are healthier because of quitting analogs.
I would think a bit of camaraderie would be there, but from things I've read on these forums, that is far from the case.

I think some ex-smokers, especially the ones who quit cold turkey feel like they have a right to be condescending because of the struggle that they went through to quit. Some are able to just stop smoking and not look back, but the vast majority have a really tough time and view surviving this struggle as some pass to just look down on anyone who either still smokes or finds another way to quit.

To the OP, that sucks that someone would be like that, but as others have pointed out it is just ignorance. Unfortunately, the ignorance and misinformation is perpetuated by the media to some degree. I just saw a clip of Rachel Ray demonizing ecigs. She actually said something along the lines of "I don't even want to touch them, their so gross" and "Its nicotine suspended in some kind of chemical". Not once did she mention what the nicotine is actually suspended in. I bet you would find a lot of the ingredients in some of the food that she cooks. The more I read the horror stories of how others treat vapors the more I am starting to realize that my experience is probably not the norm as just about everybody that I encounter is either very supportive or are very curious as to what it is that I'm doing and what is in the juice. Maybe my experience will change as time goes on.

I may be naive, but I don't see why people go crazy over the feeling that a person should be free of all addictions.
Many people that quit smoking cold turkey did so with the help of a quit smoking support group.

The vast majority of quit smoking support groups teach a philosophy regarding the joy of being free from addiction.
And are based on preaching that nicotine is an evil monster determined to eat your children.

These people have been brain-washed, and will never change their tune without a big, huge helping of truth and reality.

becuase they have to find a way to lash out at people who have found a way to get the fix AND move on at the same time seeing how they had to suffer through it to get where they are, in their mind it's not fair - how come you didnt have to go through all the anxiety like i did? when in reality a good 90% of them still think about smoking. and dont want to face the truth
And of course, this...

Got to love a "know it all" who knows nothing at all. I love how you got all technical with him on the last post and no response back from him lol. Dumbfounded to say the least. Made my night thanks lol.

That's why I asked the 2 questions first, if he honestly thinks it just water vapor, he hasn't looked into it. And I'm sure if he was at a club, and at said club they had fog machines going, he wouldn't think twice about being in a cloud of it. Yet we exhale this mystery vapor and all of the sudden people freak?

I hate Facebook, but thanks for the reminder. I just sent out a please-sign request.

If I get an exchange as head-shakingly fun as this one was, I'll post it. :)

OK, we should all post on facebook asking for support, (good idea anyways) and post any negative stuff on this thread. This could be fun to see how many antivapers there are out there.

People don't get it. Nicotine all by itself isn't that bad for you. MIL went to the hospital with pneumonia - she couldn't breathe. She still smokes a few cigs even though she has cut way back. Tried to get her to use e cigs but no....

One doctor tells her pneumonia and the other doctor hears she smokes a few cigs and says COPD and emphysema - which is bull since she is in great shape. Anyway, she tells me she has been using Nicorette gum when she has a craving and it is working for her but...she asked the doctor about using Chantix. At least the doctor said no not right now. Your mother just passed away and you are sort of depressed.

I tried explaining to her that it is fine for her to use the nicotine gum and that Chantix has had some serious side effects but I don't think I got through to her. Chantix is not the answer. If nicotine gum is working then she definitely doesn't need a pharmaceutical. E cigs didn't rock her world but I don't care as long as she isn't smoking.

I have a bad feeling that she will convince the doctor to give her heavy duty drugs since I couldn't seem to get her to understand that nicotine isn't the problem, smoking is.

I'm interested to see if anybody argues with me. They probably won't. The one person I suspect of being an ANTZ is so well-mannered that he wouldn't dream of arguing with anybody. He won't sign, but won't confront me.

Most of the rest of the people are either now vaping or related to vapers or friends of vapers and totally supportive.

I don't put up with that kind of crap from people I don't know. I certainly don't put up with it from friends, facebook or face-to-face. Life has enough annoyances without putting up with loudmouths and blowhards. If a person doesn't seem to be getting it, I nuke them off my friends list, and by nuking them, I mean block, not just delete.

If a person doesn't care enough about me to respect my choices, especially the ones they don't agree with, I don't care enough about them to be on my friends list.
