This is our little Lucy (aka Brown Dog or Gutter Dog) She was found by friends of ours wandering the mean streets of this city. She was scared out of her wits, was starving and emaciated and her claws were worn down practically all the way down to her paws.

She had obviously been on the streets for some time. Our friends took her in and after posting fliers and registering her as found with the SPCA they received zero response. They could not keep her and were thinking of just turning her in when she came to stay with us for the weekend as they were going away.

She was deathly afraid of men and would hide if I tried to approach her but, she seemed to be O.K with my wife. To make a long story short, we fell head over heals for her and that was just about a year ago. She is now my best buddy. She follows me everywhere and gets upset when I leave the house without her. Upon my return, she runs in circles and jumps for joy. She has turned out to be the sweetest and happiest little dog and watching her transform from where she was has been nothing short of amazing and her step sisters have welcomed her with an open heart from day one. It's truly amazing how dogs will thrive when given the chance at a caring and loving home.

Here she is lounging in front of the fire with Ruby And Daisy as well as her favorite (nasty old) toy........

All these dogs are so beautiful!! I have 3 but if the truth were known I'm a cat person. I LOVE cats and would have 20 if I could. I have 4 as of now. 1 is totally an indoor(her previous owner had her declawed front and back and spayed) one that goes out to potty(will not use a litter box but will not potty in the house. She scratches on the door like a dog) and 2 that are totally outside. Well one will come in when its cold. All 4 have totally different personalities. Love my Bella, Sofi, Onyx and Stripe.

Congrats on the new pup. And good on you for adopting a rescue. We have two ourselves, a yellow lab we got when she was about 9 weeks old, and a lab / pit / whippet mix, at least that is what the vet thinks she is, that we got when she was about 9-12 months old. She is built for speed, we just moved and have a huge backyard now and she is just a blur of black fur running the yard :D

Awwwww!

We have foxes who den right by my house, a coyote pack that runs our neighborhood and Swanson hawks everywhere. Our girls have never gone outside. We have no bunnies which for this area is a big warning not to let cats outside...

I go out with our dogs when they potty because of the huge hawks out here. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't want anything to happen to our little ones.

Not really, I just wanted to show off the lab that rescued us today. We lost our beloved lab in April to cancer and vowed to never go through that again.

This is so awesome! After a tough Thanksgiving (long story but we got called to our destination earlier than expected, the In-laws are doing poorly post breast cancer/leg pain, deep vein thrombosis and Parkinson's. Things have leveled off now and we can go home as expected tomorrow), I love seeing this so much.

You are SO right about them rescuing you, we have two who rescued us and I don't know what we'd do without them.

Megan, I've seen the occasional fox here and you can hear coyotes off in the distance but so far no problems. The 2 outside cats are always on the porch(one is snuggled up with the dog) in the mornings when I go out. Snakes are more of a problem here. Sofi has been bitten by snakes at least 3 times. They usually get her just before they hibernate for the winter. One of the outsiders actually adopted me. I'd put food out for Sofi and Stripe would sit under the bush and wait for me to go back inside. If I came back out he'd run off to a distance and wait until I left. After about 6 months of this I guess he decided that I was safe. He'll come up to me, rub up against me and allow me to rub him. He'll even let Noah rub him now. Stripe hasn't missed any meals though...he weighs 21lbs. He's a big boy!!

Yeah, snakes would be in your area!

And I'm sure the predators there have more food than we do here!

When I had a dog he needed walks twice a day for his sanity so we would go to a nearby park and there was always bits of cat left every morning, sad, very sad. And one day as I was heading to work before dawn I startled a fox carrying off a large cat who dropped the kitty and they ran in opposite directions. Glad I could help the kitty out!

A neighborhood cat had kittens in a lady's shed a few summers ago. This lady(and I use that term very loosely because what call her would be censored for sure) moved them out of her she'd and in the open so a hawk that was circling could pick off the kittens. One of her other neighbors saw it, grabbed the kittens and the mama and put all of them on her screened in porch. She found good homes for the kittens, and had the mama spayed. The mama cat lives with her now. The ....* lady sets out antifreeze and somehow one of my cats drank some(her story, I don't believe it) and died from poisoning. I dislike this lady very much!

Yeah...that is some kind of evil right there....

I had cats I got as a child from an old man in my neighborhood back in Tulsa who stopped me and my little friend and said if we didn't take them he would throw them into the river. Never got close to the mother but took those kittens away and bottle fed them. Their eyes weren't even open yet!

I told her that there is a place for her! The old man can join her and keep her company!

Pictor the avatar was the day we got her from the rescue. Poor little girl spent the first 6 to 8 months of her life in a crate. The best thing was the first time she walked on grass. She didn't even know what it was and it looked like she was walking on glass. damn silly walk for about a half an hour.

She is doing much better these days, she is a spoiled brat now.

She's not spoiled. All dogs smell that way.

Amen Lynn! In my mind, "Anyone" who poisons or abuses a harmless animal should be made to suffer through the same fate or worse! :sneaky:

I don't just like this post....I LOVE it!!

When I told this "old lady snicker" that h3ll had a spot for her she told me that she would see me there. I replied that if I got there before she did that I would save her a seat right beside me and I would be sitting next to the ice water! <insert evil grin here> lol
