hello ECF I just made my first diy liquids & I have some questions...I used vg from walmart & I used scubabatdan's calculator, followed the recipe the way it said & I get this weird taste...is it maybe the vg I used or do I have to let the juices steep? I made vanilla bean ice cream & watermelon using perfumers apprentice from one stop diy shop...if using vg from walmart is not the way to go do I have to get some vg from somewhere online & if so where is the best place to get it from...'cause I can kinda taste the same flavor from both juices so I'm assuming it's the vg that I used & the vapor is somewhat decent not like when I used to get it from vendors that I've ordered from online...any & all help I can get would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance...........keep on vapin' on ECF :vapor:

It's not your vg, I have been DIY'ing for a couple of months and use vg from walmart in every batch. Your juice needs to sit for a few days to get it's true flavor. I find some of my juices change so much in a couple of weeks it is amazing. I do use sweetner in some juices also. If you go to this website you can get a free sample by just paying the shipping and it is really strong so a bottle only needs one drop EZ-SWEETZ Home Page

I know that I steer clear of recipes that contain Bavarian Cream because to me it adds a musty flavor to the whole recipe.

Man... I'm glad to read that. I thought I had some bad Bavarian Cream or something. It must be the whole personal taste thing with that stuff cause it taste nasty to me as well.

I use vg from walmart and it seems fine to me.

Could you post your recipe?

Something is just not adding up in my head...

ok, my 1st juice that I made was vanilla bean ice cream...my base nic is 48 mg...the amount that I made was 3 ml...recipe...1.13 ml/ 50 drops pg with nic, 0.02 ml/1 drop pg with no nic, 0.06 ml/4 drops vodka, 1.20 ml/ 34 drops vg, 0.60 ml/20 drops flavoring.

my 2nd juice was watermelon same base, same amount...1.13 ml/50 drops pg with nic, -0.23 ml/-12 drops pg with no nic (I didn't use any 'cause it was a negetave amount), 0 vodak (but after I made the juice I put 2 drops anyway), 1.50 ml/42 drops vg, 0.60 ml/20 drops flavoring

now the vodka that I used was the cheapest smallest that I could find at the beer store, it's 80 proof & it was about $1.50 & the name is "TAAKA"...the flavoring is perfumer's apprentice from one stop diy shop, vg from walmart, I already had some pg from juicy liquid.com & one stop diy shop, pg with nic from OSDIYS. Could it be the flavoring? Too perfumy hence the name...or it just needs to steep for a little while...was it the cheap vodka??...vg from walmart??...or maybe I'm jumping to conclusions too quick?? I hope this helps to figure out what went wrong if at all...thank you so very much for asking have an awesome day & keep on vaping on!!

It shouldn't be the VG. I have used essentially the same thing with no issues. Can you identify the flavor that is giving the wierd taste? I know that I steer clear of recipes that contain Bavarian Cream because to me it adds a musty flavor to the whole recipe.

it's a kind of sweet perfumy taste...I still taste the actual flavor of the juice...maybe I'm jumping to conclusions or maybe I did something wrong being it was my first time

OK, well, now I see something.

Your flavor percentage is pretty close.

When I mix Vanilla Bean Ice Cream I use a total of 18% flavoring and you have 20%. (I actually use 85% Vanilla Bean and 15% EM aka:Cotton Candy for the flavoring) I also add just a touch 95/5 to the watermelon when I mix it at 17% total flavor.

40% is right at the edge of where I would thin with PGA, so it may not be needed.

Now, I go for strong flavor, so being over my levels may be too much for you? Maybe the EM I add cuts what you are getting down?

It could be the VG, but I seriously doubt it.

Some folks do not like TPA (or is it considered TFA now?) flavors, but I have had quite a bit of luck with them with quite a majority of what I have tried.

What really has me confused is the lack of vapor production you are getting. That has me questioning the vodka because that much VG should be giving good vapor.

So, you can let those steep and go with another experiment and drop the flavoring a bit and leave out the vodka. See what happens then.

20% flavoring using PA flavors is pretty high. Try 10% and see if that makes a difference. You might also want to use more PG and less VG to allow the flavorings to mix better. I'd leave out the vodka, too. You can always add it in the future. Start out gradually and then add more things to do thorough tests. Let it all sit for a a few days, since the flavor will become stronger each day.

I mixed some PA flavorings at 20% for a friend, and after a week or two, she said it was too strong, so I doubled the base to decrease the flavor to 10%. She said that was much better. I thought it was too strong at 10% and am expecting that she'll ask me to dilute it some more in the future.

Ditto on the Bavarian Cream. I don't know it all B.C. is the same but mine came from Loranns.

I've found that if you mix a juice and it tastes perfumey, leave the cap/dropped top off for 24 hours. Shake really well a couple of times with cap back on. Air plays a part in melding flavors together. If still not happy with the outcome, let sit for a couple of weeks closed up, in a cool dark place, out of sunlight.
