Is it really worth it?
I have been vaping for 5 months, using between 24mg and 38mg unflavored liquids. vaping alone does NOT work for me. I still need 15+ RYO's and 5-6 small cigars each day to get my satisfaction. vaping for me is just a "Fill the gaps" thing to do between having the real tobacco hits. BUT it has helped me to cut down on my 50 year+ habit.:vapor:
I won't say it's saving me any money though, because it's definitely NOT. So far, in just 5 months, vaping has cost me over £550. My outlay for normal tobacco was only £420 for the whole year:ohmy:.

I find so much wastage with vaping, with products that don't last long. Since starting i have crucified 2 Mini pipes + 1 Miniciggy + 1 Cigar. A dozen Attys, maybe more + 1 battery charger + 2 batteries and dumped several ML of liquid. Also lost 1 complete Tornado in the sand while playing football with the kids.:(

Am i going to give up? No not just yet. Now waiting delivery of my new ordered Mod + Lots more liquid + 5 new Attys and 5 carto's.
I guess it's......if at first you don't succeed, try and try again.:toast:

Have you tried supplementing the vaping with snus or snuff?
A lot of people need a bit extra, not nic so much as the MAOI component of tobacco - sweidsh (not usa made but made in sweden) snus are a safer alternative to hitting up the smokes again. Check out the smokeless tobacco forum here for more info

I tried Snus, but can't get on with it.

Well thats a 50+ year old habit your trying to break, keep positive and keep trying at least you have gotten this far and cut down alot which must have help improve your health in some way, look for the positives

Tara

Not too sure it has helped my health at all. I think i might have left it far to long. Got COPD from many years of vehicle re-spraying, no ventilation back in those days. Also smoked Analogues/Pipes and cigars all my life.

I guess vaping won't add to my breathing problems and maybe it might do me some good IF! i can slow myself down, but at the moment, I'm vaping non-stop unless I'm smoking a proper .... 50 years + is a long time habit to kick.

Dont give up on HOPE. I know when i first started i wasnt ready to quit cold turkey and just vape and when the day did happen i swear for 2 weeks straight i vaped until i was blue in face and didnt fill guilty about it then somewhere around the 3 week mark i noticed that i wasnt sucking on PV like i had been and all the craziness of not smoking was going away. Best advice is do the best you can one day at a time and dont beat yourself up. We are all here because we all have been there. I didnt smoke as long as you but i did for 20 years and 2 packs aday at it. One day at a time

for me i figured i'd better get a big batt mod asap because those normal 510 batts weren't cutting it. too much hassle and limited reliability.

a quality mod costs anywhere between 60-160 give or take.

as long as you don't lose it, those will last for the long haul.

i chose to go with supertmanufacturing and love it. getting a second one soon and maybe even an ego.

make sure you check the threads that talk about cleaning an atty. the dry burn method works well.

been vaping for about 46 weeks @ 2 packs per wk (probably more) i would have spent about 560. on cigs about equal what i've spent on ecigs so far but i've now got a nice mod and tons of eliquid in stock as well as attys.

all the best.

I'm completely new to this and I was looking at the cost myself. It seems to be equally as expensive as tobacco. I have yet to discover if this is true for myself, but you are the first person I've seen that admitted that the PV has cost more than you would have spent.
It depends on how much you spent on cigarettes. I was smoking 3 packs a day and a pack costs $10.50 in NYC. I'd have to be vaping gold in order for it to cost as much.

But there are a lot of initial costs. There are so many things to try before you figure out what's right for you. I have fluval, foam and tea bags in my apartment -- and I'm now using cartomizers. I have lots of bottles of liquid I dislike and lots more of flavoring from when I thought I'd mix my own.

But it does level off after a while. Now I have a Little Chuck, several batteries for it, a huge stash of liquid I like and I just received 50 cartos. I can go several months without spending anything unless I need to replace a favorite liquid.

As little as I was spending on tobacco for my pipes ($3 a week could pack my bowl 5x per day!) I think vaping will actually cost me more to do, but when factoring in the medical costs that I would incur later down the line, it will save me money, but money is not why I started.

Maybe you should try out the flavored liquids. If you are a pipe smoker like me, you are accustomed to a potent flavor kick.

There is a difference in the basics and those of us who want to try a lot of different stuff. In retrospect, I could have spent around 70.00 for 2 complete 510 kits and 50.00 for liquid and an extra atty. That would have been all I really needed for a long time but I chose to buy different models, extras. Smoking costs me a minimum of 55.00 per week. I know I do not need to spend that much per week to vape. Yes, I spent a lot trying Volcano, generic ecig, 3 lazers, 510, 801, 901, Kr8, Indulgence, Tornado, Chuck, pipe, juice fed mod, DIY supplies, tons of different liquids but those were not necessary in basic expense.

OP, good luck to you and I hope you hang in there and find what works for you.

I really hope that you hang in there and admire your determination. The thing that scares me is your addiction/need for so much nicotine.

Have you spoken to a doctor about perhaps supplementing your need with a gum or patch instead of going back to tobacco?

Hi, Yes I have had NRT Medication from the Doctors. It's all free here on NHS. I did manage to quit for 8 months, then got sick. The Doctor said the cause of my sickness was, that i had given up smoking, so sudden after so many years and his words were, "Start again" which i did and the old habit was soon back on track. Within one week i was all repaired, no more Depression, no more illnesses and no longer under medical care.

I do smoke an awful lot. I'm up 18 hours a day and barely without a ciggy, i can quite easily get though 72 fags a day.
Luckily i get all my tobaccos cheap from the EU at only E4.50 for 50grams, opposed to £10.00 + if i had to buy it here in the UK. This is one of the big reasons Vaping cost me more then tobacco. I'm not going to give up vaping as it has helped me to reduce my tobacco intake, but i am vaping very hard, non-stop to compensate for it, Hence getting through a lot of equipment though hard abuse.
I can reduce the vaping cost, once i get the time, as i can make my own Mods, also mix my own juice. I have all the parts, boxes etc, batteries, fittings etc, it's just finding the time to do the job + i have a dozen or more other things on the go, or need sorting out. With only 6 hours a day to myself, i need to sleep a little LOL. The list gets longer and longer, i have been decorating my hallway for three years...LOL.

Thanks for all the feedback, this site and the people on it always cheer me up.

Wow Mike, that is an incredible story! When a doctor tells someone "to smoke" and then you get better from smoking. Wow.

Sounds like you are almost in perpetual motion! I also now understand the cost factors that you are dealing with.

Well, it would be great if you can sit yourself down and start making some of your own PV's with all the parts you have but it sounds like that might not happen anytime soon. So May I suggest that you get yourself a more heavy duty PV so that at least you can cut your tobacco habit down a bit?

But first of all, may I suggest that you vape at a higher voltage then 3.7. I think you would be better off at 6 volts using a high voltage 510 atomizer. The 510 burns the hottest and at 6v is optimum in vaporizing the liquid in your cart thereby giving you the optimum in nicotine dispersal.

I would go with either a Silver bullet or a Chuck, both of these units are pretty heavy duty and would stand a better chance to last you longer then a conventional e-cig. But please be sure while vaping at 6v to use only "PROTECTED BATTERIES" in these devises and only use a High voltage atomizer made to vape at 6volts.

Do you think that this plan might work for you?

Vaping can easily be 1/5th the cost of smoking.
You just have to be satisfied with what you have.

But we are all a bit obsessive, and satisfaction only comes when there is nothing left to try.
    :)

For me though, personally, I've been there for at least 5 months now.
I haven't spent hardly anything lately.

I have done a lot of trading though.

At first the expense was more with vaping because I had the buy buy attitude. That and device failure. Now I’m using the NicoStick and other mods that can be repaired if they break.
Getting off nicotine really helped cut the cost too.

I got such a stash from stocking up from my beginning months that I haven’t bought any hardware for months and won’t have to for years unless I get into a mass atty failure.

Eventually you all should find the right mod for you, and the right liquid and things will taper down. Just hang in there.
And, even if you stops you from smoking a handful of cigs or whatever, it has to be worth it.

Yes, I think the cost with e-cigarettes depends on how much you used to smoke, depends on how much e-liquid you vape but mostly what e-cig brand you choose. I've been vaping for a week and a half by now starting with my Intellicig EVO. I'm really satisfied by this PV but thinking about brands and stuff I came to the conclusion that if you stick to most brands you'll be forced to buy batteries of that brand and maybe starting to buy a new device every week to find something better and better, even considering the fact that common e-cigs batteries usually don't have that long life. I thought about a way to avoid this by looking beyond and I found the answer... By now I'm waiting my GGTS to get to my place, my second and last device. Being completely mechanical it's almost impossible to break down and about batteries.. wow I spent just 9.50£ for 2 18650 3.7V 2500mAh vs 10.50£ of a single genie battery by Intellicig ( and they last much more compared to standard automatic or manual batteries). About liquids, there's a way to save money aswell. Buying high nicotine flavourless juice and then cutting it with PG-VG and buying separately other flavours. Of course everything has its price but when it comes to vaping.. I think everyone should approach it thinking that every single bug or euro or whatever you spend there it's an investment on health and your life so even If I spent something more... I know I won't regret it but just gain benefits.
