I know, ANOTHER newbie! I really am trying to navigate vaping and I definitely need help.

I have been reading online for weeks and weeks (just signed up here today though).

I am a business analyst by day, so I usually can navigate new worlds but vaping world is a mystery to me. The lingo (ohms, WTH?) and boxes, mods, batteries, dripping, etc. No matter what I read, I can only figure out a few things (Is there a magazine or books I can buy?)

I have learned it is best to listen to the pro's and take their advice, so I am hoping to get lucky here.

Me: I got a stick style e-cig prosmoke brand. I was THRILLED, it was so much fun....then the horrible burnt taste. I tried new cartridges (they last only 20 puffs or so?). I tried refilling with a few drops here/there when it burnt. So inconvenient and just NOT working. I am wondering if vaping is worth such a hassle. I can't refill while driving!

I want a ne w vaping system with the following qualities (please advise or just tell me I'm nutso):

1) Something that does NOT taste burnt ever: a NON-polyfill burning system (I assume that poly burning is the horrible taste)
2) A large holding tank so I can vape in the car for an hour or so twice a day.
3) A long lasting battery for the same reason (dont' care if it looks stick style, I'm assuming I've outgrown that)
4) Something that burns VG ok (the other kind burns my throat funny)
5) Something I DO NOT have to re-engineer : it works out of the box. I am not a mechanic.
6) Something basic, reliable and SAFE (wow, read about exploding batteries!)
7) Easily PORTABLE: in the purse, in the car, etc.

I have been looking at the wick tank systems (fluxomizer etc.) at gotvapes. I cannot tell for the life of me WHAT those things hook up to battery wise.

SOMEBODY tell me what to buy please!!!! It must fit all things above. I need to know what model, what battery, what atomizer, what mouthpiece, etc. Help!



Vaping was so much fun at first.....I could see me doing it forever. But I live in central Il, and there are NO vaping stores or experts (went to a head shop and they were clueless about the sad disposable e-cigs they had).

I need expert advice or I guess I will give up. I guess the industry is so cool and new, it hasn't stablized with reliable things yet?

Once a cartomizer is burnt- it's burnt. You just have to throw them away, there is no saving them. You have to keep any cartomizer you have filled with juice.

How much do you smoke? How much are you looking to spend? You might like something like a Reo.

I'd recommend this because you've already tried vaping and do know the basics. The batteries will last you all day at least and it's a juice box so you don't have to refill. Plus it's indestructible.

I don't think I've ever read about anyone disliking the Reo.

Ok Nance - an ego-t starting kit would work wonders for your needs. Make sure it is an ego-t <---- T= tank. A tank will hold alot of fluid. The batteries usually last ALL day. Try cignot.com... its the easiest to navigate and has your bare essentials. There isn't a million things to skim through.

Now you need some juice. I reccommend backwoodsbrew.net

You fill the tank with juice and you vape away. It is simple as that!

Oh yeah be sure to order extra 5 pack tanks with your starting kit. You will be on a mission of trying new flavors.

you are in luck! There is a BOOK! ( sort of )

Read through the ECF LIBRARY. Its a fantastic reference guide to vaping.

Also the recommendations of MikefromNY are dead on perfect. The eGo really is the best PV ( personal vaporizer ) for a beginner. Its portable, the batteries last 4-8 hours ( depending on how much you vape ) and its very easy to keep an extra battery in your purse when you need it.

I found that I needed an extra charger, that I kept at work to charge batteries on demand if I needed it. ( using one charging the other )

Backwoods brew has fantastic juice at a great price. You really cant go wrong there. Its just a matter of finding out what juice is your flavor. But there are other juice vendors that are good as well.

I just hooked my mother in law up with the eGo-T for christmas and she loves it. Its a simple plug and play ( plug and vape? ) system that really eases a beginner into vaping.

You may want to upgrade later on to something more robust, but you will never regret that first purchase.

First thing to remember:

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

Based on your comments, from a battery standpoint, definitely get a model with at LEAST 650 mAh but 1000+ mAh would be better. Stick with manual (small button) batteries only; get some blank cartomizers to fill with eliquid of your choosing in the 18mg to 24mg nicotine strength. The models I will recommend are all 3.7 volts, not the small 3.4 volts like the eGo and have batteries in the 1000+ mAh range: E-Power 510 from MadVapes or Kgo from Hoosier Supply.

I am not a big smoker, maybe 4 cigs per day......but I love the ACT of smoking, which is why vaping is so perfect.....I love the fun flavors (not looking for a tobacco flavor at all). I also want 0 mg nicotine if possible....health insurance tests tested for nicotine and I want that to be negative. I anticipate that I will vape a LOT more than I ever smoked. I kept it minimized for health reasons. I went back to analogs.

Spending amount: I am not really restricted on the money (this is a planned luxury purchase). I just want something EASY that really works.

Atomizers: disposable after how long? If I only vape 2 hours a day, that surely is not a heavy user?

Really, from what you described up above, this unit will handle everything you are asking for and more. It is expensive (relatively speaking) and big, but you get what you pay for with eCigs. There is nothing to burn in this unit. Things wear out, like the atromizer, but everything in life wears out.

it does not have polyfill. Its a tank system that has a little cap you pull off and drip juice into. My mother in law ( god bless her ) isnt the sharpest tack in the box and she had it figured out in less than five minutes. It takes less than a minute to refill the tank with no fuss no muss. The tank essentially drips juice onto the atomizer and keeps it wet. As long as you keep your tank from running dry they should you. My mother in law has been using the same atty since the day after xmas with no performance degredation at all ( she says )

But stay clear of Cinnamon flavors with the tank system. Cinnamon can damage the tank.

When flavor drops off you add a couple drops of juice to the top.

With the Reo I posted a link for you just squonk the box and it fills itself.

Would never ever recommend an ego-T. Sorry.

I went the eGo-T route before I found out about REO's and wish I would have skipped that step. With the ego system I was still leaking juice, filling cartos, fiddling with tanks,....
Got a REO and all I do is fill up a bottle, put in a battery and screw in my atty and vape all day.

My 2 cents..

1. Cartomizer w/ a Tank setup !!!! No burnt flavor EVER!!!! NEVER EVER EVER! EVER.... Did i mention ever?

2. Cartomizer with a tank setup... * NOT A TANK-O-MIZER From Volcano * But a TANK glass steel or plastic * choose wisely *

3. BIG BATTERY MODS!!! 18650 batterys should give you some GREAT Life span.. Look for a HIGH MAH rating 1200+ * Im running 2800mah atm and getting 9-10 hours with a Dual coal cartomizer *

4. I only vape 100% PG mixes so ...

5. Id suggest the ego power mod 18650 From Myfreedomsmokes.com * Got mine a few days ago and fell in love instantly * Used 4 other differnt e-cigs so far. Im pretty impressed with the power mod.

6. Safety really relies on your own commonsence.. Dont put a battery in backwards * if you can DONT use unprotected batterys * Really unless your gonna buy a Big Battery mod You dont need to worry about the battery safety as most just screw into the usb/wall charger and charge up.. Most come with protected Circuit boards to prevent failures/Blowups/whatever.. Things can and will happen.. But commenscence really plays a big factor.

7. This becomes a matter of personal preference. Do you care if its Big and bulky? Again I gotta vote the 18650 power mod... its a BIG battery a BIG e-cig the tank setup and DCC work for me.

Hey Nancy - DON'T GIVE UP! It is worth all the trouble, believe me! And we love to have newbies here at the forum - WELCOME! Now, let me see if I can help you -

Believe me, the industry is not so new that there are not excellent, reliable products that you can count on. I can't help you with the non polyfill - but if you use a cartomizer tank and keep it filled up, you won't have any burned taste. I use the SmokTech dual coil cartomizer tank system - this is the cheapest I've found it and it comes with everything you need to start out (except the juice):

These babies hold 6ml of juice! Last a long time between fills. My Vapor Store also has a good price on the replacement cartos but the first 5 should last you a while. The cartomizers themselves inside the tank usually last me a good two weeks before I have to do a new one. Just watch the video for how to fill and maintain - very easy and I am not a mechanic either!

Now for a long lasting battery - first of all, you MUST not use the above tanks with anything under 650mah! And for now, just don't worry about mah and ohms and volts. You'll understand all that later, I promise! You do need to know though, that you want something with a 510 connection so the tanks will fit. Anyway, I would recommend a basic box mod - like this:

Big Brother 3.7 V Fixed - Ken's Boxmods

The batteries will last a long time between charges - probably like 6-7 hours for a moderate vaper. You will also need this:

14500 Power Kit - Ken's Boxmods

USE PROTECTED BATTERIES ONLY! A great deal for 4 batts and a charger. The above combination would meet all your criteria - simple to use, (just fill the tank, screw it on and go), portable, safe and lasts a long time between both fills and battery charges. It will give you a good, basic setup to use while you browse and learn more.

Couple more things - I know that some here might say - 'Buy a ProVari' - which is one of the most expensive mods - but personally I believe that you don't need to spend over $200 for a mod. Also check the forum suppliers list here on the forum and try not to buy from anyone not on that list (I would make an exception for Ken's Box Mods - there are many positive reviews on here for them). We know that these suppliers here are good, honest suppliers.

Something to think about, all the "work" involved in Vaping is worth it. It is a bit of a trade off. You'll NEVER smell like an ashtray. Trust me, after you get off the analogs you'll realize just how bad people that smoke smell - sorry, but true. I was very thorough about washing my hands and face, putting on a nice musky lotion and chewing gum after I smoked. People still smelled smoke all over me anyway. Nobody said anything until I started vaping and stopped smoking. So, everything has it's price.

As for how much work vaping can be, that is more up to you. I dug in from day one to find out how I could find a unit that worked for my needs. One that I did not have to fill every couple of hours. I'm still perfecting it, but have gotten down to only needing to fill twice a day. As soon as I have the extra cash I am buying that unit I sent you a link for. I'll keep my current PV, which is more "stealthy" and use the big Buz Pro in the car and at home. Fill that puppy once a day, and you're off to the races.

Analogs are "easy", but so is crack and dropping pills (prescription or otherwise), but the long term cost, and in some ways the immediate costs, are too great for analogs to be worth it.

Four cigs a day with maybe zero nicotine, I'd go for as easy as possible.

That'd be a juice box or a KR808 like a V4L or Volt with a bunch of prefilled cartomizers. Although I'm not sure they make prefilled cartos in zero nic. You may have to fill them yourself. If you vape as little as you say, a cartomizer that you fill yourself should last you all day.

If you don't want to spend a lot for a reo, you can pick up a Boge Rev cheap. I got one on Black Friday for $25.00. Also a juice box.

WOW.....amazed by the welcome and the help. I was not sure if I'd get any response. I have been on boards that are well....intolerant of newbies (yes I know the new ones try people's patience).

I promise to look up all the links you have given. I am very willing to spend a lot of time researching (I have already spent a lot of time, just find it confusing).

I have spent a lot of time on you tube watching people fluff wicks, clean tanks, etc. But again, they have a lingo and understanding that I just don't yet. THANKS for all of your help!! Much much appreciated!

you'll start to be able to tell after using them for a bit.... tell tale signs are not getting as much vaper when you take a drag, the flavor dying a bit, and the like.... sort of like how you know when a piece of gum is loosing it's flavor. When it does you drip a drop or two of juice on it. For driving I tend to have a few filled up and just change them out.
