So my Spinner battery came today (thanks to PBDragon for the awesome sale price, by the way) and so I screwed my Kanger T3 onto it. I loaded it up with Snozberries and noticed it had a bit of an off taste, so I finished the last of that tank and rinsed it, then rinsed the wick and dry burned until the smoke (or vape, or whatever it is) stopped coming up - exactly as I've read you should do.

Then I loaded it up with Rock Star. Well, this is much worse.

I'm not sure if Snozberries and Rock Star are supposed to taste like acrid burning, but I'd guess not. However, that's what I'm getting.

Should I not have dry burned? I've got kanthal and cotton if I need to rewick, and I have a spare factory coil.

I've tried this everywhere between 3.3 and 4.8v, and it's no better at any setting. The Rock Star is much worse than the Snozberries, for what it's worth.

Help, please. I love vaping so far, but if the burnt undertaste is how it is, I'm going to have to figure out a better system.

My setup after rinsing is:

1) Add flavor wicks, stacked vertically
2) Replace center post
3) Assemble

Unfortunately, I don't have anything other than the T3s to vape with.

I have read a few suggestions in the T3 thread to try removing one flavor wick, so I'll do that before trying the spare coil I have or recoiling the device.

Different voltages definitely give different vapor production and flavor, but they all taste burnt. I guess this coil could have a hot spot?

If it has a 2.4 ohm head on it you should be able to get good vaping at any voltage between 3.3 volts and 4.5 volts if the coil is not fouled and you have good feed. Here is an ohms chart and XL spread sheet to calc wattage. Many use between 4-8 watts but some go higher. I try to stay near 8 watts myself. But some attys use higher especially dual coil attys. The Kanger T3 is not a dual coil.

If the wick is tight it can keep juice from reaching the atty. let it soak in the tank for a while before using.

as far as dry burning goes - you have to do it in pulses and its not really very helpful except if there is crud dried on the wire.

so you would want to burn just until you see the smoke then stop. start again and repeat. If you just hold the burn you can burn the wick (even the silicon stuff will take on a burnt taste.)

If you did burn the wick you might be able to get rid of the burned taste with a soak in denture cleaner. pop the head in a cup with a denture cleaning tablet and let it soak a couple of hours. rinse after. There is no need to dry burn to dry the wick prior to filling the tank. Just use a paper towel to absorb the moisture. Your first hit or two might seem weak or a little watery but it goes away quickly.

steve - thanks lots for reminding me of that chart! I've got it saved but completely forgot that it exists. It'll help me narrow down my preferred voltage.

zuzette - I let the juice soak in the tank for a while, and the problem is way better. When I vape on it for a few minutes it comes back, so I'm thinking I will remove the top flavor coil. Regarding dry burning, will keep that in mind. I'll swap out coils, then do the denture cleaner routine

IceNinja - I'm using the stock silica wick and (supposedly, I don't have a multimeter) 2.4Ω coil. No can do on the pictures I'm afraid, my cell phone takes macro shots that are unbelievably bad, and I don't have any other camera

That happens when I refill my clearo sometimes (different brand but same concept). If the atty isn't good and primed I'll get a burnt taste for a little while. Then when the wicks have had a chance to do their job all is smooth sailing.

Burnt taste simply comes from the atty not having enough juice.

Nice to see another member from "orr a gun" on the forums! Welcome!

Hey Noi! Glad to see someone else from orygun here on the Internet - seems that there are far fewer of us than you would expect...

I removed one of the flavor wicks, and turns out that was the issue: now, instead of a burnt taste, I get nothing but the flavor it's supposed to be (tested with Rock Star, Belgian Breakfast, and Crazy Cow so far).

I looked at the coil, and the first one I was using did have a short in it, so one half of the coil wasn't getting hot nearly as quickly as the other. I fixed that with a needle, and it performs much better now.

Thanks for the help, all.
