But we do have to put a clear coat on right? i had heard that if you took the vinyl off and didnt put it back on something would short out. sorry i have idea what they mean but im sure you guys do. So can someone explain to me whats the reasoning and will just painting be enough or what?
Thanks

IMO if the paint by itself is thick enough, good enough quality and protects the mod from shorting out then it does NOT need a clear coat.

If,however, you use a paint with metal flakes in it you WILL need to clear coat your paint job.

the paint I used has no metal in it so I do not need to clear coat. I may clear coat it if I put graphics on it just to protect the graphics from scratchs.

My Xhaler howitzer is beat to cr#p.

I have been using tape for a few weeks to hold the graphic sticker together.

My habit of occasionally being covered in juice is the culprit to the sticker’s demise.

I purchased the bride a beautiful aqua painted Xhaler and find Drew’s paint method very durable.;)

I’m going to have to rent Cathy’s Xhaler for a few days as she has no problem using the 808 with carts.

For myself there is no turning back.

Yesterday I found an aluminum primer to get the howitzer prepped. The next step will be to use a 3 part auto body paint system.

OK So Cathy’s not getting her Xhaler back for about a week.:D

I originally ordered the xhaler in aqua and no probs for several weeks, but on one occasion I had to drive to southern CO and ended up scratching my xhaler paint to the metal in the cupholder by my own stupidity:)

Drew sent me a replacement vinyl cover with an order, I used a dremel to strip it to the bare metal, primered it, fresh noalox and placed the cover and it works better than ever! The xHaler is the king of mods, a little care and it will perform flawlessly. Fly-fishing season is coming, we'll see how it does when dunked in the river - my guess is that it will fare better than the Bartleby!
