I still like cartos....

I have used boge cartos for over 5 years now. Love the snap, crackle and pop sound, means a good carto. Have over a thousand in stock just in case. Use other toppers as well, but cartos 90% of the time. Provari 2.5 with S/R boge at about 5.7 volts, which gives me just over 11 watts. Still my favourite after all this time. All the best. B.K.

So why are they so hard to find and why did Ikenvape and IBTanked go belly up?

I used to work in a vape shop, so I'll tell you what my manager told me.

Cartos and cartotanks are "old technology". It was no longer profitable to try to sell them, they took up too much valuable storage and display space within the store. They got rid of their ciga-likes and pre-filled cartridges, too. More profitable items such as ego batteries, clearomizers, replacement clearomizer heads, rba's, wire and wick, mech and regulated mods, and e-liquid were what was bringing in money and profit to the store. It's what the customers wanted. There were only a few customers who used cartomizers and cartotanks.

I can't speak for Ikenvape. He had had business problems in the past, quality control and supply problems with his manufacturers in China, and I imagine with the decline in online sales he had to make the decision to close shop.

IBTanked was a mom & pop run business, and I imagine they suffered the same fate as Ikenvape from the decline in sales. IBTanked lost their ECF Registered Supplier status when orders were taking too long to be completed and didn't communicate with their customers.

There's a reason that the companies who still sell cartomizers are running close-out sales on them. They are clearing space for items that make a profit.

An anology can be found in the electronic entertainment field. It's hard to find an 8-track, cassette tape, or even a CD player any more. Technology has passed them by with newer technology such as DVD, Blue Ray, MP3 players, and online download sites. Try finding a tube-style television set -- they're all flat screen HD sets now.

The only difference being that for a simple MTL vape, I'm not sure if clearos are a step up. Admittedly I haven't tried the latest ones yet.
...and for the record, I still buy CDs, simply because if I'm going to pay money for something, I like to have hard copy of it. I noticed that you didn't include vinyl records in your analogy. ;)

Vinyl records? What are those? ;) I'm kidding.

You should try some of the third generation clearos, like the Aspire Nautilus. The vertical coils introduced in this clearo changed the technology for the better being that they were very similar in design to a carto, used cotton instead of silica wick for carto-like flavor, and same type of MTL draw of a cartotank.

One of the newer clearomizers to have come out is the Kanger Pangu (below). Tell me that this design is not a glorified cartotank.

I would like to try some of the newer tanks, but I'm on a rather limited budget atm. I did buy a Pico/Melo to see if I would like DL/sub-ohm/TC. I'm not convinced yet, but I know the Melos aren't the most loved tanks. Might try a Cleito or the new Atlantis EVO. On the MTL front, I'm thinking about picking up a carto-like Innokin T22 or the new Nautilus X. As for the TC, I'm not sold either. It seems like once the coil is hot, it hits the temp protection right away and then the vapor production seems to drop off some. Still playing with it some. I'm at 500F@40W atm. Anyway, I guess I'll stop rambling off topic for now. Thanks for the response.
