The Chameleon was my first HV mod, and one that I have used daily since acquisition. It is a solid device and it's versatility unparralleled.

Lately however it has taken a back seat with the arrival of the P18 and proceeding on vacation, where keeping equipment (read batteries & chargers) to a minimum was a priority. The P18 has mainly been used at 3.7V with SLB 510 cartos. During the evening the lizard comes out though for my 6V vaping :) In all fairness to the lizard being on vacation, it is the battery longevity of the P18 that draws me to it for my daily out and about journeys. Batt life = 2 days+ I haven't drained one yet.

Hiya Check,
The Chameleon's rep has been gaining much popularity and i have been contemplating heavily on ordering more, but one thing keeps stopping me. It's the achilles heel, the tact switch. While it's been performing nicely for most user's. I had to replace mine an awful lot amount of times. I have been in the works of conforming the unit to alleviate this problem by having them made with a mechanical switch mechanism to ensure total durability. I do have a few appointments on Monday with local machinists to attempt to makes this unit a 100% user-serviceable, solid device. The shape and versatility have much potential, but I feel it can be much better. Also, not to mention to have them made in USA would be a nice perk. If our negotiations aren't met on Monday, We'll most likely opt to order more of the Original.

I hope all goes well with the negotiations. The button is really the only moving part
on these apparatuses and therefor needs to be pretty solid. I completely understand this.
I am in no hurry as I have my trusty Vaper King from V4L keeping me vaped. I like the chameleon because I want a nice solid home vaping device with variable voltage.

Hows the heart?

Sooper! So good to see you buddy!
Wait, do you mean an 808 being a standard fitting, whereas it cannot be removed? If yes, then sadly no. If we were to rebuild the chameleon with a non-removable adapter, it would take away its versatility. If you meant the unit with just one 808/901 adapter and not pressing the other 801 and 510, then yes, we can do that. EDIT:However, I did design an adapter to accept all 3 of 901,510 and 801, but the machinist would have to be extremely precise. I do plan on presenting this idea on Monday. ;)

Thanks you :) We're getting along just fine. They ran ridiculous amount of tests on my heart and still have found nothing. So we atleast know that section is now clear. More tests are still coming though, ugh.

Right on with V4L, it's never a good thing to be stranded. I personally like the unit for on the go, but at home it really shines with the PT 5 volt. Whenever I'm here, you know it's plugged in lol
Yes, there's just too much going on with the button other than being a movable part. See here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ikenvape/58925-chameleon-button-dissaembly.html The video is outdated and a new one's are available, but it's the picture I'm getting at. Everything is just too cramped in there, it's nice for security, but still should be simplified.

Sooper and Check,
I do currently have 2 units that have slight imperfections that are available. That are $50 each for the unit only and any additional adapters for $10.00

Here are pictures of the imperfections

my only concern is that ive tried an adapter on an ego. there was no airflow at all, even after i adjusted it. is there proper air flow with a 901 to 808 adapter? glad to hear your heart is ok! have they scanned your cat yet? (cat scan)

Ahh I see, I believe the adapter you have maybe for strictly 901? They have the same fittings but usually for KR compatibility the adapter should either have a hole drilled onto the side or like a KR8 cut, like on the KR batteries.

These one's in particular, have an air hole drilled into it's side. The center pin that sits in the adapter can also be adjust for finicky cartomizers via vice and/or brass punch.

They did an electrocardiogram, a few x-rays, and about 4 ekg's and counting! :D

the adapter i had had the holes for the kr8 but there was zero airflow when i tried it on my ego. have you tried this one on the chameleon?
I believe much has to do with the cart vice the fittings. I have:

  • the Chameleon and an eGo;
  • the native Chameleon fittings
  • the 510-901/KR808 adapters
I have used the KR8s on the lizard with its native 901 fitting without any problem.

I have used the KR8s with the native 510 fitting and 901/KR8 adapter again without any problems.

I have use the KR8s and 510 - 901/KR8 adapter on my eGo. Some without a problem while others required the airflow to be adjusted at the adapter. That being said, vaping without the cone was less problematic, but I do not vape my eGo that way. To vape the eGo without the cone, might as well use another device.

Reports have stated that not all KR8s are created equal, just as not all 510 cartos are created equal. Not being a carto fan it is no biggie for me but, I can say unequivocally that the SLB 510 cartos available here, outshine any carto out there any day of the week and 3 times on Sunday. This coming from a former carto hater, should speak volumes.

I see a couple of lizards hiding over there. I certainly don't want to take an opportunity away from anyone BUT if you guys don't want the Chameleons I would love to have an additional one. If these guys are still available after viewed by prospective buyers please pm me Isaac, I'll take one. Also need to get some of the new 510 cartomisers when they arrive.

I don't use cartos alot, I never know quite what to expect when screwing a KR8 carto on any given adapter? They do work on the Chameleon's adapter. I've also got a 510/808D adapter and they work on that too.

It's the achilles heel, the tact switch.

About the Lizards vulnerability... it's really easy to deal with that... get a dozen little tact switches, they cost next to nothing... $3 on eBay for 15 of them and that price includes shipping... when the rare need arises to replace the switch, it takes about 20/25 minutes and you're done. It's hit or miss with the mass produced for pennies little switches themselves on QC, that's why I think its a good idea have a handful on hand.

All the same, I'm keen to see what a purely mechanical North American Lizard looks like too. A mechanical side button with really short throw (we're talking a fraction of a mm) seems challenging. I'm curious to see how that turns out.

VM, I changed my switch with the ones from eBay when we first got them and that one is still going strong. Of course I haven't thrown my Chameleon out any windows of moving vehicles lately either  Of course I'm looking forward to the all mechanical version, mainly because it gives me an excuse to purchase a second Chameleon :) Got my fingers crossed for Isaac's Monday meeting!!

Happy Vaping!!

Yup, the switch I put in from our ebay source is still working flawlessly for me too. My earlier reports of misfires had todo with the need for better cleaning/noaloxing the endcap threads. In addition to just wiping them down with a tissue, I very lightly went over them with some steel wool before reapplying noalox.

If our negotiations aren't met on Monday, We'll most likely opt to order more of the Original.

This is awesome news!!!!!!! Will you be able to sell the mechanical switch to users who already have a Chameleon? Like just the entire middle switch part and outer shell. I'm sure you will have a lot of folks jump on that.

I'm looking forward to the video review.... And I hope you are feeling better. :)
