Thank you for this impressive list. But mysteriously, death is not a sufficient motive for most smokers to quit. My motives when I quit for five years and seven years were about how I was hurting the loved ones in my life because of my self-centeredness. But I'm older today, divorced, kids grown and gone, so I have less truly loved ones in my life to consider. I thought about marrying a woman who was dead set against smoking. Trouble is she will probably be extremely judgemental on other issues--I'd rather die :)

Like previous posters have stated, you have to want to quit smoking. If you actually want to quit, just get rid of cigarettes and the crutch of having a pack around for "emergencies".

Give away what you have left, don't convince yourself that this'll be the "last" pack. It's too easy to just convince yourself to open your trunk for that "treat". Give them away, throw them away, throw them in the pool, it doesn't matter, just get rid of them. Most smokers are creatures of habit, so go into the couple stores you regularly shop for cigarettes at, and talk to the people you see working there every day. Tell them you are done with cigarettes, and ask them to not sell them to you anymore. This finality is really helpful if you truly want to quit.

Actually, the need for a "crutch" during difficult times loses it's hold on you. I have been vaping since July 20, and haven't had a difficult time being without my cigs. I smoked for 36 years, and tried quitting many times. I had a difficult time last week, cried a lot, and bought cigs. They tasted terrible and gave me a headache! Vaping is more a comfort now, odd though it may seem. You do have to want it, and having cigs around so that you have a choice is probably a mistake, or it would be for me. If you really want to quit, throw away the cigs, use your PV, and just relax....the contentment will come.

All good advice so far for you, Junior. I agree with stepping up to 36mg. Maybe try some different flavors. For me, it was the flavors that got me hooked on vaping. After smoking for 40+ years, I put them down the day I started vaping. I still have an unopened pack of Pall Mall's in my drawer, don't know why, maybe to snicker at it; I have no desire to have a ciggie.

I love vaping a nice fresh peach that's so good I feel like I should be chewing on something. Or vanilla cola that makes me think I need to swallow something. And who doesn't like that tartness of a green apple? Just my .02.

You slipped once and so you will probably slip again. Lose the ego.

Like everyone has already said, everyone is different. What worked for me was to us my PV to slowly change my smoking habits. First I started only taking a few cigs home from work with me, and then none. This meant that I lost my after-dinner smoke and my driving smokes. I vaped instead at these times, and it didn't really bother me since I knew I was going to have a cigarette as soon as I got to work in the morning. It was easy to cut back to just at work, and I took a long time to cut back on those. After several weeks I found myself reaching for my PV more and more. One day a coworker asked for a lighter and I said "here, keep it. You know what, have the rest of this pack too, I'm done." I lapsed once since then and kept analogs around for a few weeks, but for the most part I was done. I still bum one every now and then, but now they just serve to remind me that I don't even like them anymore.

The bottom line for me is simply that PVs are not magic quit wands. They're not an exact replacement. If you really want to quit though, they can be a tremendous help.

I don't mean to be hurtful. We smokers just need to remember what kept us smoking for so long in the first place. Most likely ego and inablility to be honest with ourselves. And we probably got started because we thought people would like us more. I'm as guilty as any other long-term smoker.

the only advice i can offer is for "reaching for an analog during traffic"..

try keeping the windows UP in your car,.. and enjoy the A/C or Heat depending on your weather that day. AND VAPE AWAY!! I too loved the feeling of fresh air and an analog, but it proves to be more convenient at times to have A/C or heat.

Doing this might help you appreciate the convenience of the PV much more, knowing that you're not gagging on your own second-hand production. it might even give your car a nice sweet scent! ;)

Thanks guys for all your advice. I think you all have the same point...and that is, you need to want to quit and you need to realize that it will work, and I need to realize that i will survive without analogs. I think the first thing I need to do, is let go of the analogs for a day, and just prove to myself that i'm fine without them. I agree that listing the ingrediants means nothing, people have had family members die due to smoking and still smoke 2 packs a day, it comes down to will-power to stop smoking, and the first step is to let go of the cigs. I need to go a day without them and prove to myself i can quit, and don't need them. Then i will just vape and show myself that vaping is giving me the nicotine i need, even though i don't feel it.

Again, i wish i was one of those people that put smoking down when they started vaping, and i'm not even looking to quit completely, i just want to slow down and get to 1 or 2 a day, while vaping.

Because buying cigs and buying vaping gear is double the money instead of saving money from quitting smoking. But money isnt going to stop someone from smoking either, there has to be enough reasons for that individual person to stop. regardless of the reasons, as long as they work for that specific person, then best of luck to them.

Whoa there Junior. Not once in all this thread did I see this pointed out. We are not only addicted to the Nicotine in cig's, we are addicted to SEVERAL chemicals. Sucks but there it is. It almost sounds like you are under the mistaken impression it's ONLY the nicotine. You WILL go through some withdrawels. As my daughter says when the going gets tough, "It's time to get your big girl panties on and DO IT!" SO, expect SOME withdrawl symptoms. MOST of us had them, from being less than amusing to be around to being downright .....y!!! Oh and one more thing, quit beating the hell out of yourself when you smoke. I mean really, when you read this board, quite often it looks like YOUR the only one here who is having a tough time, well guess what, surprise /grin your not!!! The folks who pick up the e-cig and quit analogs for good are in the minority!!! MOST of us had to bust are collective arses to get off the addictions (and I DO mean PLURAL) of analog's.

We are addicted to the hand to mouth motion. We are addicted to the chemicals. We have the HABIT of lighting up. The actual mechanics of smoking. Sit down and FEEL and SEE what it is you do when you light up. Feel every motion, every skin touch, taste, SMELL, everything. THEN decide how your going to change it!!

Most of all, come here and talk to us. We are always here :0). Give it some time, and be good to yourself! Again, don't beat yourself up.

Good luck!!! I know with some effort and some thought, you CAN do this.
